What a miserable season, all beginning before a ball was even kicked way back in July when we saw the calibre of signings we were making. Hopefully we go into the new season with a sense of optimism with some quality signings. Crawford has his work cut out, but the board have to back him otherwise we easily do a Brechin.

Said it before, Board can only spend what they have, which is surplus income from the operations of the club. Our Shareholder Owner is not interested and wont give funds for investment in players! - hence no real optimism that we will get out of League 2 for some time.

Championship winners - Kilmarnock - Plastic Pitch
    League 1 winners - Cove/Airdrie - Plastic Pitch
League 2 winners - Kelty - Plastic Pitch

Many including me prefer a grass pitch but plastic pitches aren't as horrid as people make out.

Plastic pitch equals unfair advantage to the home team , unless you are EF and Falkirk .But really the top of the pyramid. , ie Premier League should only allow grass pitches.

Thought Arbroath were magnificent in the first half and should of gone in 2 nil at half time.
Kilmarnock dominated the second half but coming back from 2 nil would of been difficult. All ifs and buts but in the second half you could of done with Nouble and /or Dowds to of held the ball up.

But unbelievable season for you guys. Somehow you need to pick yourself up for the play- offs. O’Brien best player on the park by a mile.👏👏👏

    Wind yer neck in granddad.

I regularly pay to watch Championship football because my team plays at this level but many others are put off at the pricing. I've had friends interested in heading along and are appalled by how much it would cost.

You also wildly overestimate how much anyone outside of Scotland gives a f**k about Arbroath or any team not called Celtic or Rangers.

Apologies mate, I didn’t realise you were a Dunfermline fan. I get the lack of quality  argument.

The last figure I heard that  our never to be seen majority share holder was looking for was 500 grand. Now I don’t see many people in the Levenmouth area sitting with that in an overseas bank account. So likely we are stuck with what we have for the foreseeable. We have been a well run part time club under the current chairman for 7 or 8 years now but by their own admission it’s been getting harder to compete as players wage demands have increased. As you said we can only spend what is being brought in so we are way behind in terms of budget to teams who have board investment. Unless there is some way Rankine can be bought out I’m afraid it will be down to the good will of the board and supporters to keep the club afloat.

If £500k is right, he is delusional!

Aye, it's a far better league if you never have to watch any of the games.

I think it's made 100 times worse by the fact clubs charge £20 to watch such an awful standard.

Well you know how to sort that. Don't pay the £20 -indeed nobody is forcing you to come to games. Just stay at hame, sign up to sky and watch the good old soulless  premiership where the league is between 2 teams in both countries!

I have been to  Arbroath twice this year and the atmosphere is tremendous, the humour and friendliness of the fans is refreshing, and the football is blood and thunder, and sometimes quality not great, but always exciting.

Something, remarkable may happen at Gayfield, and if the result goes the right way for Arbroath, on Friday, every TV company in the Uk will be on the story for the following week ….I will enjoy saying I witnessed that. But thats me….

There have been some pretty dire times supporting the Fife over more years than I care to remember but what has been allowed to go on in the last year is up there with the worst. Season 1996/97 last time we were in the 2nd tier lives long in the memory for how bad that was but the season gone by will even give that a run for it’s money. The summer recruitment was a disaster and there was no plan B in January. Agree majority of players need to go as the losing mentality that hangs around the club has to be broken. Crawford never stood a chance as he had to plough on with the majority of the squad that was put in place prior to his arrival. The lack of goals would drive any footballing enthusiasts away from the game. We had a decent team there for for 4 or 5 years but things have been in free fall since the first games back after COVID. Took 2 seasons to come up last time we got relegated I wouldn’t put money on that being improved on, but we can only hope that better days can return again. Hopefully the board learn lessons from our pre season planning last year and get  a plan put in place that has things ready to go for mid July.

Really think harsh to be over critical of the board.Their hands are tied!

We have a majority shareholder, who has no interest in the club. He will therefore put no fresh investment in and would be happy to sell. However I have heard he wants an unreasonable sum of money for his shares. So the club is in no mans land!

So our directors have to run the club on a break even basis and have no flexibility for investment. We therefore have the smallest budget in the league, In reality we have been punching above our weight for years- although I do admit mistakes have been made by the Board!

Yesterday was 2 really poor teams. When Tonks came on for them he looked like a giant!. Only a 2-3 years ago, he was the young  raw boy surrounded by a fit Smith, Agnew, watson, Meggatt, Davidson , Dunnsy etc.

Yesterday, we looked like midgets , against a really poor Falkirk team who were stronger. How far we have fallen in such a short period of time!

i fear until our shareholder issue is resolved, we are doomed to league 2 for many years to come!

Depressing really, but don't think our Board can be overly blamed here!

Not sure what his contract situation is with Airdrie. May have a release clause for all we know.

Any DD from former players ( and indeed some current) on him would not be good- just saying! He would fail proper DD.

Where Raith Rovers are just now, and where Livi and Hearts were under Mcglynn,  is absolutely miles away from where Falkirk are.

Mcglynn came in 3 and half years ago to a very similar situation.  A piss poor squad hoping to get where they wanted to simply by being full time.

He would be a massive upgrade on anyone that's managed Falkirk for years.

Couldn't agree more. The job he has done at the Raith has been immense. I remember when we used to beat Raith in league 1 , we are heading to league 2 and failure to Raith is to miss out on the play- offs in the championship!

Clearly Goodwillie was a fiasco but really the BOD imo are more to blame. If  that results in him not being the manager of Raith, grab your luck.
Raith wont be the same team for the better, without him at the helm

Owen Coyle played for Dunfermline too. Then again he played for nearly everyone.

Stevie Crawford was a coach for us.

Wow, huge amount of players and coaches pass through your club and don't stay too long.!

Didn't know Stevie Crawford was a coach for you guys. Wished you had kept him longer!

A game of complete nothingness for FFC, but I fully expect “the importance of finishing 5th as a confidence booster for next season” guff to be expressed at some point.

Last chance saloon for EF with little chance of a miraculous escape. So, if it’s only pride being played for, EF might pick up at least a draw.

A FFC loss, and it’s damn near a certainty that we are on our way to 6th place.

No we are hopeless, truly hopeless.

We have the worst team in the league and the worst stadium  in the league and fear we have many years in the wilderness in league 2- we have no chance in hell of survival and the supporter apathy around the club is frightening !-  we will lose rather than you win.

Think some of this apathy  may resonate with Falkirk fans albeit you are a bigger club. Interestingly, speaking to the players at EF we do not have the worst pitch in the league. That honour lies with Falkirk( due to age!) . That is some badge of honour considering our pitch , Alloa and even Dumbarton!

I did notice Watson out for 9 months re training accident, that boy from Hull not allowed back as surface hindering his back(?), and Dowds after 6 months on the grass injury free  at Arbroath is injured once back at Falkirk. Is your pitch contributing to injuries? How much does it cost to replace the surface and I imagine this will have a serious dent in your player budget next season.

Not that it matters to us EF supporters as we are in the mighty league 2 next year.

Just get this over with and put us out of our misery.

Surely Airdrie will sell out their away section?

    Agreed.

Never wanted a season to finish so much in my life!( only seems like yesterday that we would of gone into this home tie with confidence- how we  have fallen!)

We did hear also how much of a shambles Rice was at Hamilton and he's pissing this league so far at Alloa.

I'd bite your hand off for Tommy Wright. Almost forgotten what it was like to have an actual manager not a Project Support Analyst.

Tommy Wright! Behave. Listen to what the Killie fans say. Had the best players and biggest budget  in the championship and they were going no where until McInnes arrived!

    Don't be fooled .

Barry left Kelty before he was pushed. I heard a whisper that they were unhappy with the spend and the progress of the club . Yes they got promoted but they laboured against a team that really were struggling in Brechin last season . I just don't accept that he would have left to join Alloa if all was rosy behind the scenes at Kelty .

Remember Kelty have a player budget that way exceeded anything that Alloa would have been able to offer albeit I heard he was well looked after at the recs in terms of wages.

Alloa a huge step up as was League 1 from the lowland league and ever league 2 when he was there with Clyde.

A glittering career as a player does not mean a jot when trying to coach and manage in the lower echelons of the Scottish game.  He had a great foundation at Alloa inheriting a brilliant experienced squad but it just never worked and recruitment wasn't good enough . Will be glad to see the end of this season hopefully with our league 1 status in tact .

All that makes sense re Barry.

Although you were playing against one of the worst teams in EF history, you are a far better team , more organised, under Rice than good old Barry!

We can still do this. Fantastic fightback today

We certainly can. The team spirit is excellent.

So hope you guys do it. The Goalie blunder was awful. Not often you also  see Tam  been left on his heels  for the 2nd!- is he fit?

Kilmarnock are no great shakes- but you need to go on a winning streak. The draws of late would of been wins  earlier in the season.

Whilst Hamilton is scoring  and Wighton busy- actually believe you would be miles ahead  if you had managed to keep Nouble and Dowds- they just kept the ball in the final 3rd that Dick Campbell loves- also resulting in Mckenna scoring loads.

But , stay close, you can beat Killie and then who knows…

    ps some season though👏👏👏👏

Its sad ! two people that have put everything into turning it round and their effort in that picture says it all. 'It's beyond saving' they will walk at the end of the season for their own wellbeing.

    Agreed.

When they look back they will regret that they failed to bolster the midfield in January That decision alone has cost them the play- offs and ultimately , probably their jobs.

A shocker. The same lino was so useless that he ended up not making decisions until he'd received direction from the ref.

Seriously, have you not noticed in league 1 the linesmen never make decisions?  There seems to be an underwritten law that the referee makes all the decisions and therefore that's why you see the linesman always looking at the ref and  confirming the decision slightly behind the ref…. Drives fans mad…

Dont disagree re our playoff hopes, but QotS brushed aside Cove fairly comfortably, and I thought Dunfermline looked decent against Morton on Friday. Obviously one of the two are getting relegated but the other will have a good chance of staying up via the playoffs.

I agree. The bottom half of the championship looks much stronger than the  top half of league 1. I thought Dunfermline were good on Friday, unlucky not to win the game.
Mind you would be some double by Hughes to regulate  Raith and Dunfermline as manager.

Rennie actually explained at the meeting on Monday that he sometimes likes to take a step back so that he can assess things more calmly. I'm sure he also said that refs don't like more than one person in the technical area (maybe it's a rule?) and that Miller's usually jumping around out there most of the time.

No point trying to explain that to Shadwell though so I didn't bother.

Brian Clough did ok from sitting in the dugout and staying calm.

Honestly , anyone who thinks screaming at the sideline has any influence on the players, has never really ever played the game at any level- see that at kids football from embarrassing Dads ….

That right there makes it clear his contract should not be renewed and i am afraid to say we look for yet another manager.

Guys can we get a grip. You need to refocus and start performing!

You need to beat Dumbarton, you should beat Dumbarton however bad you are..

We can close the gap again if you guys win. Hopefully Tonks is back as he will fight like hell for the Fifers from the East!

From the few games I've seen of Kabia, he's got searing pace and looks a composed finisher with his feet. Not going to score many in the air.

Saying that I'd start Mitch and Rory ahead of him and Dowds. Clearly Rory isn't going to be around much longer. Both Jaze and Anton are good strikers for L1 and could do a job in the Championship. Both out of contract in a few games; interesting to see where they end up. Expect Livi and Arbroath. Undoubtedly better than Cove's 3rd choice strikers (not difficult).

Morrison should be a Championship player. With the right players around him and confidence he'd excel IMO. The last time he played against us his delivery wasn't great in all honesty. Given we're playing 3 CM's and 2 wing backs I'm not sure how we'd fit him in.

Nesbitt, out of contract soon, I wouldn't take. He's got some talent but is lightweight and doesn't really want to grind it out in CM.

Airdrie, I'd take a few instantly. Easton, McCabe, Fordyce right off the bat.

Cove have a few Championship quality players but under no illusion that we need to strengthen in a few areas.

Strikers are only as good as the team they play with. Dowds played for Arbroath, scored 5  in 6, got championship player of the month, came back to Falkirk scored a hartrick  in first game back and then performances  dropped as a result of the players he is playing with.

All about opinions, your 2 strikers doing well, think better teams than you are after Dowds. Time will tell who is right?

  22. 33 minutes ago, GeordieBairn said:

harsh, he did score a few very well taken goals for us.

Always thought if Keena and Dowds had been fit at the same time/ not loaned out, they would of been a good paring for you guys- but dont think  they ever really ever played together as a front 2 for any period of time…

  23. 14 hours ago, WhoAmI said:

I have to admit I was panicking when I saw the team for today. Could not believe that for such a vital game our 3 first choice central defenders ie Higgins, Steele and Dunlop all out injured/COVID. We had two full backs Murdoch and Slattery in central defence and then Murdoch goes off injured replaced by Daniel Higgins who hasn’t played for weeks due to injury. But although at times it wasn’t pretty the defence cleared their lines when it mattered. A great shift put in by Slattery ably backed up by Millar, Wallace, Mercer, Smith and Watson(who arguably had his best game for us).

A big shout to the Young ones from the Community Club who really got into the game supporting the team and more than nullifying the young Dumbarton fans and their drum. Good to see players go to them at the end for photographs etc. Let’s do that again.

👏👏- As you say for us to win a critical game like that with so many first team starters missing, is well, remarkable .!
