This comes with a heavy dose of hindsight but nevertheless, it needs said and I think it's passable becasue of the number of people saying it at the time, but the signing of Leigh Griffiths to score the consolation in a 4 goal, home battering at the expense of a signing that shored up the midfield is a real howler.

I suppose Jacobs was to do that but it was clear when he came in we needed more.

I also know Liam Craig was close, but failure to get him didn't negate the need to get someone else.

I'm sick of watching lazy shitebags. Sick

The failure to sign a midfielder will be the main reason why you do not make the play- off’s and Rennie loses his job. Most Falkirk fans see, and opposing fans definitely see, that your midfield unit is one of the poorest , if not the poorest in the league. As you say missing out on 1 or 2 individuals is no excuse, the quality is so poor there has to be players out there that could of improved that area of the field.

Of course he should be judged with Griffiths. If he wants/is allowed to blow the budget for 2, maybe 3 decent players at this level on a Hail Mary, that's has to be on him?

And in the (very) unlikely scenario Griffiths loses a couple of stone this week then fires us to the Championship, he should be able to take the credit for it.

Virtually every Falkirk Fan , and us fans of opposing teams, recognise that your midfield is so weak.It could be one of the poorest or arguably the worst midfield “units “ in the league 1.

Either the manager is not of the same view, ie how bad it is or he was unable to find suitable improvements. The latter is extraordinary as it would not take that good a player to improve that part of the team. That failure has likely lost you the chance to make the play- offs and will probably result in him no longer being manager after the summer. A costly mistake.

We have simply got to weed out the dross this summer, regardless of contract length. Next season the league will be tougher with Kelty and Queen of the south arriving and possibly Dunfermline as well.

I wouldn't object to Rennie getting the gig next season but he has been helped massively by just how dire it got under Holt, Sheerin and M&M and the fact that the majority of the squad is made up of their players. In reality a 40% win ratio despite our limited squad is terrible in this division, especially considering 2 of those 4 wins have come against East Fife.

I appreciate recruitment is hard but some of the guys we have signed over the last few years have been properly hilariously bad. Hopefully the new scout can ensure at least 70% of the new recruits are up to standard, which was at about 10% under Holt (and that is being generous)

The players I would keep below from our current squad, assuming we aren't promoted:

I've not bothered including Mills or Kabia as there's no way they're sticking around unfortunately. At the moment we've got quite a big squad of 24 plus the 4 guys away on loan. I'd happily trim down the quantity if that improves the quality. It's easier to offload players in the summer so hopefully we can get rid of as many of these jobbers as possible.

The rest we'll probably be able to keep with the exceptions of Telfer and Dowds. If either of them get an offer from an aspiring Championship club I reckon they'll be away (see Aidan Connolly). On the subject of him I see he's banging our physio now. Hardly surprising considering the amount of time he spent in the treatment room whilst with us.

If we did somehow manage to get promoted I'd probably only keep Williamson, Watson, Telfer, Morrison, Griffiths & Dowds. I appreciate Raith and Partick have done well after going up without making wholescale changes but they won the league, whereas the quality of our squad is way below where it needs to be.

Have to say LOL on the Connolly comment. 👏

Could have been 2-0 Arbroath at half time, but Thistle dominated in the 2nd half, thanks to the introduction of their sub Alegria and think a draw was a fair result.

Thats 5 games now without a win - we are missing Dowds, Nouble and Nicky Low.

Thought Bobby had a decent game in the first half and Hilson played well in the 2nd half.

Arbroath's defence were dependable and solid as always.

Needing to stamp our authority in midfield and start opening up further chances upfront.

9 games to go and sitting top of the league - very happy with that !

Tbf - 3 big players to miss. Dowds and Nouble were so good at holding the ball and running down the channels and of course the maestro with his left peg. All credit to where you still are.

You are not playing to previous high levels but you are not getting beat . All the teams in the race will get beat in the remaining games as the poorer teams have improved, and as the old saying goes every team can beat every team in that league. You have the best back 4 , so you may still win the league and are definite for at least the play- offs , which is truly remarkable..

    Season ends.

Have to agree. You cant beat teams in the top half with that midfield- against us at the weekend we felt you looked like an U15  midfield team.

All your fans seem to recognise that and I cant simply believe you couldn't find better  in the loan market for a short 6 months spell.

    Why?

Where would you like Nicky Low playing btw...

Really surprised you guys didnt sign someone on loan this week, probably midfield as Low seems to be struggling with injuries. Shame, as do think you have a real chance this year and a good signing would of helped the odds🤷‍♂️

    Wish you well.

Aaron Dunsmore has joined Stirling Albion on loan for the rest of the season. Hope this is not goodbye, but realistically he's not featured much of late.

Gave me with one of my greatest moments supporting East Fife, with his 92nd minute winner v the Rovers. All the best Dunsy

    Agreed.

Joining the manager who got the best out of him. On form better than most of the players in our team. The challenge of course , is he has not been in form. General feeling of disappointment.

Hope for his sake he gets back to his best.

On reflection, that was probably our best performance of the season. Falkirk could not have complained if the scoreline was reversed. I'm feeling a mixture of pride and frustration, but weighed down by the realisation that we are facing one hell of a fight to avoid the drop.

Yes, if Wallaces’ lob had gone in and Danny was not unlucky  with his wonder strike. But ifs mean nothing and we have got some form way too late in the season. We must also recognise we were playing against a team with no confidence, their midfield looked like an under 15 team and none of them have the ability to pass a ball forward. So We could of won that match, but we didn't , which is so frustrating and sums up our season.

East Fife fan here in peace!!

I can see where the frustrations are coming from for you guys. Aimless passing along the back line and then the same ball into Dowds or Griffiths and mostly Higgins and Dunlop mopped that up easily. Thought Griffiths looked uninterested for most of that game but quality delivery the key moment.

We're extremely disappointed not to take any points when I thought we deserved at least 1. Penalty looked very very harsh

Thought we deserved a point. Danny ‘s 30 yard shot that hit the bar would of changed the game. Penalty looked weak but too far away. Thought at times we were the sharper team and got thro their midfield with ease. Quality delivery by Griffiths re the corner tbf.

Convinced it’s not only a game is some relation to Dowds. Only posts on here when it’s to do with him. Shame for Anton to have this person making a fool of themself over him, he’ll be embarrassed by all this.

    Paranoia .

    comment on your midfield!

many comments on DGW at Raith.!

Evem more comments on our disaster season at EF.!

when the obvious is said about Dowds from an EF fan , they have to be a relative!

Next you will be saying Ark sports the sports agency are relatives. Maybe people are saying the obvious?

i’m no related  to Arksports or Dowds but loved him as a boy who has come through the  unorthodox system  of Uni rather than academy.

Anyway enjoy him whilst he is with you.👌

We are again being subjected to a inexperienced manager with "a way of playing" and it doesn't matter if that way works or not. How a manager can watch that second half and not change the formation is ridiculous. The gaps in midfield have been obvious in the Montrose, Cove and last nights game. Teams just run through us - we give them space everywhere on the park. Nonody can put a tackle in worth mentioning. Peterhead looked more comfortable and assured on the ball, they passed round about our team and harrassed our players whenever we had the ball. I was angriest ive been in a while leaving that game last night. Still not really calmed down. We are awful. How Rennie can stick that formation after recent weeks is unbelievable.

The midfield problems are so obvious  to everyone except the management team and of course has a huge influence on both   attack and defence. Hopefully you don't do something daft and get a loan signing in before Saturday!Would even fancy our midfield vs your  no 6 and the very wee guyMcGuffie..

Howling at the commentator saying good save from Mutch before the goal, it was an absolute piss poor bit of goalkeeping and puts the ball back into the danger zone.

Have to say thought the commentary was embarrassing. Peterhead could easily of won that, dominated the midfield. Have to say though, the Ref was truly shocking and the CB  of Peterhead could easily been sent off for his constant fouling.

Having 5 at the back with the 2 wing backs is perfectly feasible if they actually could defend when we dont have possession. Effectively it turns into a back 4 and a middle 4 dependent on what side of the pitch the play is on. The problem with our lot is that they are continually thinking either as a defender (both useless) or an attacker (both reasonable). However, they dont have the guile to understand how the play is progressing, ultimately being out of position half the time. Essentially we play as a 5-3-2 or 3-3-5 formation.

Our big issue in reality is the midfield. Made up of midgets and no real "Baptie" type player to mix it when it comes to to the rough and tumble. The number of second balls won by the opposing team and space given to them as we track back (slowly) is ridiculous. This is the real area of concern as it effects both forwards and defence, as there is no real ball winner in there or a link between back to front.

On that basis and with the players we have, I would go for a 4-4-2 to try and shore up the middle. Nothing fancy, just get the job done.  A diamond in the middle with either Kabia or Dowds supporting the front 2, Telfer on one side of the diamond and A.N.Other on the other side. The last point of the diamond in front of defence is where we need someone half decent that we currently don't have.

I think with that we would give the other teams defences something to consider and they wouldnt push up so high on us, due to the possibility of Kabia getting in behind with his pace.

My only concern is that our defence like to throw the ball in the net with hoofs over the top !

In saying that, I think MR will stick with the formation he has used in past weeks. It's OK against teams who like to sit back and allow us to play, but absolutley useless against teams who have figured out how crap we are.

Every Falkirk Fan seems to echo your comment re para 2. ( even opposition fans see it as so obvious). Why does your management team not see it? You cant tell me there is not such a player available in the loan market , particularly with your resources? So must be management team have a different view?

I have a feeling that, with the missing players and tough recent schedule, that we were setup for a draw yesterday, hence the conservative lineup. Also taking into consideration the “new manager bounce” for Queens, I think a draw was a pretty decent result.

Tell you what if you can come away with draws in your off days, thats the sign of league winning team. The worry is the size of your squad, and injuries to a few players can be devastating. From what I see you had no Low, Jack Hamilton and Chris Hamilton! Add to that no Nouble and Dowds who would of played if still there, that is some result.
I would not be surprised if Your smart management team come up with a good  loan signing  before the end of the month.

Two of our biggest games that will shape our season, let’s hope we get a vast improvement…….here’s bloody hoping

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. You have still not sorted your midfield and if you try to play thro that midfield that is madness. Also midfield imo is Peterhead’s strongest area of the team  with Brown there. Therefore I cant see there being any change,  ie another  loss.  Hope i am wrong , as want them no further  away from us after tomorrow’s game!

I think everyone knows, Rennie must have the most uneviable job in football right now, he might have brought in 6 but i still think he is living in hope in trying to get a tune out of some of whats been mentioned in which he probably has a better chance of getting the lottery numbers than that one happening.

Who in the f*ck thought appointing Holt as a DoF a good idea needs their balls booted he has to have winged it and just thought f*ck it they are good enough

Take your point. But all the posters are saying your midfield is woeful. So why play tit tat football at the back when you have a poor midfield that you cant play thro. No tactician but with Kabia and Dowds who can run down the channels  and have pace, even if they lose the ball, the game is played in the right part of the football pitch- Arbroath are doing rather well using those tactics.🤷‍♂️

Times up for the manager, this is purely a football opinion

Based purely on football , that seems mad. We  were competing with you in league1 and beating you. The improvement he has made to your team is extraordinary. Its typical for a team in the second season  in a higher league to hit problems, fall back before moving forward. Be careful what you wish for. You have had plenty managers who have set you backwards, like us. Again only talking from a football perspective

Time to accept we will concede goals and set up to score as many as we can and win 5-4 every week 😂

We took 2 pts off QP today- have to say they are not that great. Actually think you guys were better against us.

But as you all know, and  even Stevie Wonder could see that  your midfield isn't good enough- You cant win games of football against the better teams with a midfield that can be easily dominated. Just be our luck that you sort it for Saturday.

Morrison confirming on Instagram he’s had another injury setback. Real shame for the lad as he’s not managed to get a run of games all season.

So sorry to hear that. Came on loan to us from Hearts after major injury. Was rapid fast, but final ball was always lacking in quality. We put that down to lack of game time. Seemed to play well last year  for you guys , but again plagued with injury. Wish him well - certainly a player there.

    Wish him well.

Whereas I dont agree with those who say, "We haven't won away since..." meaning we're unlikely to win here. Does that mean we'll never win away again??. I do agree that I cant see us getting out of this & decisions made before a ball was kicked meant we'd always struggle this season, before selection problems for various reasons kicked in.

The last 2 games which have provided shut-outs, have seen us with a back 3. I'd keep that. Not seen Healy, but if he's as fast as people say, maybe the manager's idea of bringing him on for the last 20 mins to run at a tired defence would seem logical.

Personally, I'd like to see us with Semple & Connell up front, starting. You never know in football, but a win here would give us unguided optimists another couple of weeks of, "You know what, I think we could still do this!" material.

Winning away has always been a real problem, now we have added to it, we can’t win at home either. Last 6 games, 4 defeats and 2 draws. Sorry but this is woeful , don't think we have improved at all under the new manager.  Expect nothing today- go on surprise me!

If Dundee have offered him a highly incentivised deal that would potentially have made him their highest paid player (if successful), then I assume that our deal will be different and that we're just throwing money at him instead? Under those circumstances, what's the chances of him turning things around and getting fit enough to make a difference to us? Very little I would have thought.

I don't agree that it's a gamble worth taking if it's going to cost us a fortune.

In league 1, even an unfit Griffiths will score for fun. His free kicks at Dundee alone, eg the one against Aberdeen this season was sensational! Re economics, everyone will guess. Thats where you have to rely on the new BOD  being smart and sensible.
