Thanks would have never looked in the sun. So the answer to 2 of my questions are there
"As he was born in Belfast and has never made the step up to a full cap, the winger is still eligible to change his nationality with FIFA. The IFA are currently in the process of completing Kennedy’s paperwork for an international nationality transfer, so it’s unlikely he will be registered in time to play in this month’s games. But O’Neill has brought him into the squad early to get familiarised with his new team-mates ahead of an anticipated call-up against Holland and the Czech Republic next month."

Had a look at the squad dated yesterday, he is not mentioned. ( https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/49505624 ) Does that mean he is not registered to play for tonight's game?. Any idea who he is competing with for a place in the team. Is it Jordan Jones (Rangers)

Riding high at the start of September two years ago sitting equal 2nd in the table with Celtic on 10 points
Kilmarnock 1–2 St Johnstone
St Johnstone 4–1 Motherwell
St Johnstone 1–0 Partick Thistle
Celtic 1–1 St Johnstone : Mannus, Foster, Shaughnessy, Anderson, Easton Paton, Wotherspoon, Davidson, Comrie, O'Halloran, MacLean
A return to some of that form will do nicely.

It will be fun finding out what works best.
That is a good problem for Tommy to have. I agree MOH wide. We get very little from him when he plays in the middle.

Gordon's the left sided CB.
Sorry my error. I would be a bit anxious with Ralston , McCann and Kerr defending the right side of the park.
I thought Kerr and Gordon switched about during the game depending on opposition runs and man marking. But I may be wrong. I watch the games on Saints TV and you do not see the whole field of play. I will watch more carefully in future.

Interesting.
We've got lots and lots of options for as long as the formation starts with a '4'. and that 4 picks itself. Still need to balance the team up with defensive depth.
This is not a shitfesting team of OAPs that most folk would sterotype St Johnstone as.
Now, how about putting McCann in next to Holt instead of Murray to learn his craft? Bring the age down to probably the youngest in the league.
That is an option, I would be strange having a team without either Davidson Craig and Wotherspoon in it. If it was me I would develop McCann slower. By that I mean I would give 30 -20 mins as a sub and increase that as develops. And if he matures as we expect, then start him alongside Holt. My concern in a 4:2:3:1 is McCann's defensive qualities. He would need to play left side where he has Tanser behind him. I would be a bit anxious with Ralston , McCann and Gordon defending the right side of the park.

The point I was disputing was the view that 'he's an international therefore he must be good' is a bit of a nonsens
That was the point I was making when stated in reply to a post.
"By your theory, he should be playing before Kerr and Gordon as he is a top Estonian centre back Internationalist. Kerr and Gordon are nowhere near being a top Scottish centre back internationalists. I do not see much difference in the sides "

Scotland : current world ranking 48. Nearest sides above Hungary, Australia, Russia : below Egypt, Norway, Ghana
Estonia : current world ranking 100. Nearest sides above Jordan, Armenia, Vietnam : below Trinidad and Tobago, Palestine, India
So yeah, definitely comparable standard.
Where do you get this stuff from?
Edit : of course we need another CB but that's got feck all to do with who's playing international football, and at what level. It's just because we need another CB.
I went with my brain not rankings, I believe over 2 legs Scotland v Estonia the result would be pretty close. Last met 2013 Scotland 1v0 Estonia (Mulgrew 83')
starting lineup: McGregor, Hutton, Berra, Webster, Adam, Mulgrew, Brown, Burke, Maloney, Naismith and Fletcher.
FIFA Rankings 2013 Scotland 42 and Estonia 98 (rankings made a big difference that night) not much difference than today.
UEFA rankings Scotland 20th, Northern Ireland ranked at 52nd (4th lowest) below Gibraltar and San Mario. Wales 48th (8th bottom). I believe Scotland playing against Wales and Northern Ireland would be closer than than the rankings suggest. These is a couple of reason why I do not look at rankings.
"This Stuff" is only my opinion however I do not believe your rankings "stuff" mean much when 2 teams enter the field of play.

No but equally I see little point in branding him a dud and not good enough after his first three games in a new environment with new players.
You might well be right about him but at least give the guy a proper chance. If the manager starts playing Duffy or Anderson ahead of him, then we'll know there is maybe a problem.
OK I'll back off, just my opinion on what I have seen so far (i'm not he only one). Time will tell,. I hope you are right, we do need a 3rd good central defender

When did we stop giving players a chance? Vihmann will be playing against Belarus and Netherlands this week, I don't believe Estonia are that short of players.

Woke up this morning to see we have Jason Holt, delighted with that piece of news. As others have said hopefully we will pick up a left back for cover this week.
The transfer window has been slow but we covered Centre Back, Right back, Centre Midfield and Striker. The centre Back looks a dud and our starting line up there will be Kerr and Gordon. Attacking wise it is very exciting May, Kennedy, O'Halloran, Wright and Swanson. The challenge Tommy has is to find a formation that suits all their attacking qualities.
I still fear our biggest problem is a very young and inexperienced Central defence and our defending as a team. If we cannot keep clean sheets, we are not going to get very many wins and that means not very many points which in turn could spell relegation battle.
Signing Vihmann as a starting Centre Back could be a big problem should we get an injury or suspension at Centre Back because in my opinion he is not good enough.
Only time will tell and I do hope the clean sheets appear and the our goals for column begins to tick over each game.

Kirk Broadfoot leaving Kilmarnock because he doesn't rate the management team is a pretty damning indictment of the management team.
He will probably end up at Bolton, they are desperate enough for players to sign him
He does not have long to set it up the English window closes at 5pm. I'm talking rubbish he is free doh

The balance of our squad in terms of quality and experience does seem a bit disjointed, but still more than capable of mid table.
Not on present form. We need a starting centre back who can fill in at left back and defensive midfield player. Good luck trying to find them now. Whoever recommended Vihmann needs shot.

Many managers say the most important part of a team is its spine. The first players Souness bought were for the spine of his team Woods, Butcher, Roberts, and Francis and himself in the centre
What positions do we need to fill today before the window shuts. Compare our Scottish winning spine with today's team
Mannus.................................................................................Clark
Anderson Wright..............................................................Kerr Gordon
Millar Dunne.......................................................................Davidson Craig
McLean May......................................................................Kane May
Clark and Mannus just as strong
Anderson Wright and Kerr and Gordon at this moment in time weaker and inexperienced they may come good but no signs yet.
Millar Dunne and Davidson Craig Both Millar and Dunne were strong players who brought others into the game, they also broke up opponents attacks It is this breaking up the attacks we are lacking
McLean May and Kane May only time will tell but McLean always gave you goals
I see our present problem as relying on two young Centre backs and not having good defensive midfielder (we have never replaced Millar)
In my opinion we need a Centre back and defensive midfield player but we will not get them as we have to get cover for both fullbacks first.

It’s funny, because after all these seasons, I think the one player who can actually help this team and formation is David Wotherspoon, on the left hand side. Let Kennedy come onside and try and create something and float around like he wants to do anyway. Spoony will always show for a ball and try and create something as well.
I too think the teams needs him, either on the wing, full back or defensive midfield. I think he could do a job in anyone of those positions and he would be my captain. I still believe Tommy gave the captaincy to Kerr because he would being almost every game season.I yet to see his captains quality shine through quite the opposite it has hindered his game

He was asked about trying to tie up Kennedy and Wright now, he said we will be trying but Kennedys agent will be trying to tout him round the bigger clubs so will hardly listen to us just now, and when asked why we didn't try to extend Drey in the summer, similar, his agent wouldn't even have talked to Saints, and if he finds form clubs down south will be all over him.
I suppose this is to be expected from modern day players. If they have a good season as I believe they will.,both are away after this season for free,. Is this a dilemma for Tommy? He plays, Wright and Kennedy with Swanson and MOH on the bench. He then loses Kennedy and Wright and is left with two disenchanted players in Swanson and MOH.
I am not suggesting that he does not play his best players far from it he must put out the best possible team. I believe Kennedy is our best left winger much better than Swanson. I am thinking of the Wright v MOH right wing competition. In my opinion there is not much difference between them so who do you play? The player who will leave or the player who will be here for another year. There will those who are of the opinion do not play Wright and he will leave no matter what. As I said a dilemma for Tommy. (a good one)

We suddenly look very light at the back again. Hopefully that's something we can resolve before the window closes... on top of a new striker, a new midfielder and trying to ditch at least 2 and probably 3 others.
Why is MOH listed as a forward? Surely he is a midfielder?

We have played him as a forward and have had little return. His so called reputation as a forward was made in the victory against Rangers which earned him a move there. We know how that worked out
I put MOH in the same category as Kennedy, Wright and Swanson. These three are listed a midfield, I believe MOH should be the same.

Works for me.I think May will struggle as a front man. Needs to play alongside a striker or behind him. Also Kennedy and MOH have been outstanding on the left and rightrwings in the last 2 games why change it? If they continue their form Wright will have to wait for his chance (a good situation to be in)
