Think some on here need a reality check on where we are as a club. Yip fan ownership is great but sorry our fanbase just does not support it. So where does the money come from with the greatest respect to the WS raffles and race nights ain’t going to cut it. Inward investment is essential so who on the Board or WS board can provide that. Energetic amateurs have no chance.

Let’s look at Hertz as an example 17k members and over 17k season tickets and a philanthropist throwing in couple of million every now and then.

Apart from us St Mirren and the two cheeks of the same arse every other club in the league now has people willing to put money in. Hell Billy Bowie was prepared to pay Van Veen £5k a week even when McKinnes didn’t want him.

Even if we gave him Kelly's reported wage, do you think we could keep him when his head (and that of his agent) will be turned by wages down south which are going to be in excess of that?

The issue is both the fee being talked about and the bump in salary for him feels like it’s universally acceptable.

He’s on peanuts, even if we up his wages to anywhere near what Kelly is on, his agent has told him he’ll quadruple that to a mid table championship or top of League 1 team. So no matter what we offer him he’s offski. Let’s just hope we get the best deal we can !!!!

In all my years supporting Motherwell, I don't think we've sold a goalkeeper for a transfer fee (Andy Goram to Man Utd may have had a loan fee), or brought in one from our academy (I'm not including Ross Stewart's 1 minute appearance).

Kelly being signed for a fee is an obvious exception, but generally we get keepers who arrive for free and leave for free.

We sold Keith MacRae to Manchester City

credit where credit is due, I know it ultimately boils down to the player wanting to stay but convincing him Fir park is the best place for his development is good going.

Just show them game time between Lennon Miller and Bailey Rice since his move to THE Rangers

    Miller    Started - 19.   Sub - 7

    Rice.     Started - 2.    Sub - 0

Both very highly thought of in the Academy but Rice decide ( more his father decided ) on a move to Ibrox

who do you think has advanced their development. ????

To be honest it didn't look like Casey needed to go to ground, IMO, which has resulted in his follow through cleaning out McCausland. He gets there well ahead of McCausland and clears the ball in a normal running action. He then goes to ground after winning the ball and slides into him.

It's a moot point really as it should've simply been a foul in my opinion with no real bearing on the game (other than McCausland unfortunately picking up a knock).

Big guy hits Little guy and Little guy shits himself and pulls out of contact

Was always told when you pull out of tackles that’s when you get injured and that’s exactly what happened to McCauslnd …. … He shat himself  !!!!!

The way big clubs throw money at potential these days I'd be amazed if he's still a Motherwell player this time next year unless there's some 'loan back' deal agreed.

Agree    … … Although I think we’ll be doing well to keep him until January

The worst case scenario would be the end of this transfer window  He has started every game this season even when we played 3 games in a week. Are the club actively trying to encourage suitors????

As you say there has been some funny money paid for potential and this boy has plenty of that

Not if you know what you are doing.

My use of the word speculative has created a wee reaction for whatever reason 🤷‍♂️. Maybe I should have used the word risky instead. Jesus I wish I had !

Virtually every player we sign is speculative. It may be based on lots of knowledge, but with the money we can afford to pay every signing carries a risk as to whether they perform for Motherwell or not.

At the moment it looks like a rather big mistake.

Sorry mate wasn’t having a go … … From what I’ve heard the guy can’t kick his own arse

So someone at the club fucked up Big Time

He definitely came through the academy and 2020 would be his 17th birthday We’re not allowed to sign them on a pro contract till then.
Funny how ex-pros Johnston Beattie and Miller have all allowed their kids to join the Well academy… must be doing something right And the only way we list Bailey Rice was because his old man was a die in the wool blue nose and was desperate for his boy to go to Ibrox

    Aye.

Alexander gave him his debut when he was 17 and we had an injury crisis in the 20/21 season but this is his first established run.

He joined the club in June 2020 so in that time he's had Robinson, Alexander, Hammell plus whoever we hire next as his first team manager.

It kind of feels like his development hasn't been helped by the amount of flux we've seen in senior positions. It's all been a bit of a mess and if you believe the rumours there was a bit of friction with Alexander apparently not showing enough *trust* in Academy players in general.

Unlike someone like say, Allan Campbell, who got his debut then dropped out for a couple of months before firmly establishing himself in the first team it's never really been that clear what the plan has been with Johnston. A part of that may well be that the Reserves league is a complete fucking shitshow though.

As I say, he made his debut in the Covid season, was loaned out to QoS 21/22 but picked up an injury for the 2nd half of that one. Then was loaned out to Cove for the first half of this season after Alexander fell out with SOD, signed McGinn as a replacement before being emptied himself after Sligo which left us with 3 right backs.

He was being linked with Championship clubs as far back as last summer so his Mr 20% getting his name in the papers isn't anything new here although going by the reporting from the AGM last month Hammell was apparently confident that he'd sign a new deal.

In fairness I can't say I blame him for holding off on committing on anything as there's a legitimate question of what the f**k is actually going on at the club in terms of senior positions and general direction.

He’s been at the club since he was 12 years old

Is it the general understanding that Jim Goodwin didn’t apply? His name was all over it then nothing. Possibly a bit sickened by his time at Aberdeen that he feels it is too soon to jump straight in to a relegation battle that if he loses he’d struggle for another decent job again.

Could effect his compensation from Aberdeen if he takes a job so soon after leaving.

This plan to look for a benevolent angel, business etc. and its failure to be launched was a major oversight if, as described the way to be a true safety net.

About 18 months ago an American businessman who was interested in investing significant money was introduced to the club through a 3rd party. Discussions went on for 3 or 4 months then the club decided against it for whatever reasons. Not sure of the reasons but I’m sure being fan owned and the amount of control they wanted would have something to do with it. If people are going to invest a significant amount of money they then want some say is how the club is run.
