Aye, Watson has played the vast majority of his football as a centre half since about 2017
Not in a back 4 he hasn’t

All this chat around the club haven't learned is very unfair, considering we are still in pre season.
A lot of business has already been done, including a genuine championship standard striker and an experienced centre back. The final pieces aren't in place yet, but it's a real shame to see some starting to trot out lines like this at this stage.
Who’s the experienced centre back? Watson? He’s an experienced right back that we are looking to convert into a centre back. Probably alongside Liam Dick who’s an experienced left back that we are having to convert into a centre back. Hardly great work with the season now a week away. (I’ll be happy to come back and laugh at this if we sign someone before next weekend)

Yeah, assumed this would be the case. Don’t think we’ll see another centre half for another 5 or 6 weeks, by which time everyone’s knickers will be thoroughly pished.
And quite rightly so. The season starts next Saturday. Murray said himself he wanted his squad completed before the cup games started.

Yeah but those teams were probably in a better place than we are. We were literally left with no centre backs at all. The fact some of us are now content with Liam Dick being a first choice CH shows how bad things are. The simple truth is, unless we get at least one more in, we can kiss goodbye to a successful season.

Obviously the market is sparse for centre halves.
It’s not really. It’s like saying the market is sparse for wingers, strikers or central midfielders. There’s plenty out there.
I’m not hitting the panic button just yet as there’s still over a week to go but given we have a manager and a director of football (or whatever his title is) who’s job it is to sign players, going into the competitive stuff without a proper centre half isn’t good enough.

Lets hope this new talent dude spots someone sharpish then
Curious where the funding for all this additional support staff is coming from, must be impacting the playing budget surely, cannot see the new 'owners' bankrolling all this work and extra staff without a tangible return, if not this season certainly next term
I think that’s somewhat the elephant in the room just now. If we made a huge loss every year with next to nothing of a behind the scenes team and a decaying stadium. I’m not sure where all the additional cash is coming from.

How many of the 1.4k are free?
That’s what I’m wondering. I’d say, at a rough guess, under 12’s would make up about a fifth of our home support.
As a comparison, Falkirk who are in a bad way, have sold 2,500 season tickets so far.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on season ticket sales so far and what would be a successful number of sales once the serious stuff starts?
I’m probably in the minority of being a bit underwhelmed at the numbers so far given how many of them are now free, coupled with the significant improvements both on and off the park.

That’s a very good piece of work whoever made it

I'd like to see a first half back line on Saturday of Millen, Watson, Dick, Patterson.
Just to satisfy my curiosity
I wouldn’t be surprised if you got your wish. Liam Dick is good for covering at centre half but I definitely wouldn’t want to be relying on him, Corr or Masson as a starter once the serious stuff starts. Although I’d also not be adverse to seeing us sign Patterson, I’d much rather see us bring in another proven CH before we sign a left back.

Some free kick from Gullan. Corr didn’t look too comfortable from those highlights. Looks like he struggled a bit.

That's something you can visibly see for your cash though. Slightly better than pointing to a bit of turf and saying, "there's the family sponsor Son".
Yeah you’re right, I should have perhaps quoted the OP about the section of the stands instead.

No matter what way you try and justify this, having people sponsor a square of pitch to raise £5k for the club is unbelievably tinpot.
We’ve got folk sponsoring steps at Starks Park… that could easily be classed as ‘tinpot’.

I hope they can fit a booster seat onto them for Mickey

I will say I conversed with McEwan via email, and he was very responsive and helpful. This was less than two weeks ago.
Yeah you’ve told us three times now. About shipping… we know.

Considering the poor guys been dead nearly 30 years, and long before some of these young supporters singing about him were born, I fail to see the point of them doing it
That’s what happens when you mix stupidity, alcohol and warm weather!

If you zoom in on the photo you can actually see the players name on the contract!

The gaffer who bottled promotion every single season with us wouldn’t say it’s really a storyline

So you’re saying Joma produced a brand new kit rather than just making more of one already in production? That doesn’t seem right?

If Bene was so easy to get behind I doubt he'd had won so many awards, and we'd have conceded so few goals tbh.
Not really. You didn’t score a massive amount either so did your back line have to sit back a bit further to compensate?

On the topic of coaches with brief spells at Starks Park, I recall Terry Butcher had a spell but can't recall the year.
96 or 97 i think. Im sure Alex Smith was a coach at the same time… some back room team that!

Yeah as much as Brown could do a turn at centre half, he’s absolutely pivotal to what we do in the middle of the park. How he was kicking about part time football at Peterhead is a complete head scratcher.
