I was amazed when I discovered that the whole Carry On/Benny Hill genre was supposed to be entertainment for grown-ups. They're essentially live-action Road Runner/Pepe le Pew cartoons with ladies in lingerie. I read something a while back about how, in modern times, IQs have increased with each generation, so we're at the point that our great-grandparents would now be considered mentally subnormal. Can't help wondering if that doesn't have something to do with it.
And The Black and White Minstrel Show was family entertainment!! Strange times.
My objection was nothing to do with racism because I had no clue about that. It was just an incredibly awful tv show with shite music. And a distinct lack of ladies in lingerie, obviously.

First rented vhs I ever saw was Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The strongest memory is of sitting with my pals and big brothers watching it pretending to be blase, but inside was desperate for it to be over.
If only Kenneth Williams could have appeared and camped it up a bit with a reference to a big chopper.

Any Carry On from the 60s or The Nutty Professor (the original with Jerry Lewis).
What can I say? Kids films at the pictures were generally shite when I was wee.

I am fairly sure I read somewhere that Larkhall voted yes.
There are far worse culprit towns in Scotland.
From my own, admittedly entirely anecdotal, perspective - Larkhill is solidly Orange, but strongly patriotic in a pro-Scottish sense. As ever, things are more complex than the urban legend.
The swing park is red, white and blue though

"Lynn, idea for an early evening show on BBC Scotland: The Jackson Five. Jackson Carlow provides a light hearted look at the day's news headlines."
"I'm sure the channel will think that's a very strong pitch, Alan. But Youth Hostelling with Chris Eubank has got that slot sown up".

Curry on a pizza is fantastic. Once you've had a tandoori chicken pizza theres no going back. It's like seeing the world in colour for the first time.

Buying what I thought was an interesting looking beer from the supermarket, only to find when I get home it's alcohol-free.
Just curious: did you drink it anyway? Might be ok if you put a decent amount of vodka in it.
Our Lanarkshire correspondent writes. Always drink reshponshibly.

My own favourite Ayr strip was this beauty from the 70s. Was hoping you guys were going to get promoted so I could enjoy another away trip to Somerset. And hopefully make it to the game this time instead of getting...erm...distracted in the town centre.

not possible unfortunately, need to leave room for the league logo. Dons have been crying out for some stripes down the sleeves for ages now but alas
Could be senility, but I think Hibs were the first to have a sponsor logo on their shirt. Bukta I think.
Anyway, the BBC refused to show them on telly cos it constituted advertising.
So, to f**k their shit up, Hibs played in a purple kit for tv games which in those days was hard to for the engineers to cope with on colour tv transmissions.
That's how I remember it and I hope it's true.

From a distance, if you squint your eyes and use a bit of imagination they'll look like Ajax in 1972.
Insert your own punchline.

Just finished watching that Epstein thing Dirty Money.
If Maxwell can somehow avoid a similar fate as him, is her only hope of leniency a guts-spilling level of co-operation? In which case, major problem for Prince Andrew.
Fascinating that Epstein basically applied the model of his financial ponzi scheme into the sex trafficking. Once you were in that orbit you were incentivised to get others involved and keep your mouth shut.

Hypnosis didn't work on me.
Thank you.
I've often thought I must have been hypnotized as a kid.
How else to explain the baffling "decision" to spend hundreds of hours and thousands of pounds supporting Hamilton Accies?

Excellent choice. Listen to this album every few months and makes me think I am 16 again.
Was hyped as "the sound of young Scotland". Stands the test of time.As were Orange Juice. I had their first lp on vinyl, sadly now gone and costly to replace.
I wonder if I'd I'd still love it as much as I think it had quite a few 80s production motifs on it, unlike the Postcard singles. Which I still have, but dont own a record player to listen to them on.
A lot of 80s stuff is hard for me to listen to now, but my kids love for some reason.

Watched Galipoli on Film 4 this afternoon. Great film. 2 members of our family fought in that battle so was maybe a wee bit more connected to it than other war films.
The end is very upsetting.

I think there's a chicken/egg situation with social media/mental health (my totally anecdotal, non-clinical opinion).
I think to someone of sound mental health a disagreement or a bit of abuse from someone on P&B won't make much difference, but it can have a devastating impact on someone in a delicate situation.
Indeed. I briefly did Facebook years ago, just to keep in touch with old friends who lived elsewhere. But I had to bin it because I naively accepted too many friend requests from people who had seemed ok in real life, but were "difficult" online.
I was surprised at how easily hurt I got by things said.
Fortunately, it doesn't bother me if someone on here calls my team shit or whatever. I'm at a stage in life where football is just enjoyment for me (I can hear North Lanarkshire sniggering from here).
I try to keep it light, but can really relate to and empathise with a lot on this thread.

That's more treating the symptom, rather than the cause.
If we let her roam free, she'll live to scar others with her superficially-appealing* conservative front.
*to some people.
Unfortunately it wasn't her conservative front that was the problem, if you follow my drift, Squire. Say n'more.

The brain is fucking brilliant.
Mine is easily influenced. I now have a huge notion for a sausage roll AND a Rogan josh.
It's astonishing that I have any appetite at all after my erotic dream about Ruth Davidson.

Perhaps some of the posters in threads who like to wind people up should think about what they're doing.Nicely put. If people could see the damage it can do to anonymously flame someone (who may well be struggling) maybe they'd stop.
Social media is such a new thing that I dont think we've fully understood its impact on people.
Being a fair bit older than recent posters here, I assume anyway, I grew up in a culture where if you wanted to be a total c*** to another human you'd have to do it to their face and accept the resulting consequences. These could include:
a. Physical retribution
b. Other people's real disapproval.
Social media has largely removed these.
There's been a few occasions when I've reacted with impotent fury to comments (not on here) and it's really ruined my day.
But its really great to see the honesty and support on here and that's the positive side to this new fangled technology.

They might be at it, but I remember someone mention that when read aloud in a specific accent from the West of Ireland, it makes SOME sense - as long as you are able to "tune in" to the accent.
Alternatively, Joyce was a literary Mark E. Smith and quite enjoyed winding people up.
