Everyone knows the stipulations with the games left. No one is getting taken by surprise here. You can't gain an advantage by playing a game in hand. Do Rangers have an advantage over Celtic right now because they have a game in hand?

No, but I think it could definitely impact on how Dundee play the match.

For example, say next Wednesday Dundee go into the game knowing that a point is enough to ensure top 6. The score is 1-1 with 10 minutes to go. With respect to Dundee, you'd imagine their tactics would be to shut up shop and look to protect the point they need rather than push for a winner.

If the game got played tonight, they wouldn't have that knowledge in order to influence their decision and would probably be more inclined to go forward when possible and risk getting caught out by Rangers because let's face it, it's harder for us to score against a packed defence than one that is coming out.

There's never any guarantee that all MD33 fixtures will be played at the same time anyway.

No, but depending on results at the weekend, Hibs and Motherwell fans could potentially argue that Dundee have an advantage of knowing what result they require against us in order to ensure a top 6 place.

Alternatively, I would imagine if Dundee have already secured top 6, Celtic fans could argue they have nothing to play for when they meet us.

It was a general point that included the weekends game, which was also farcical in its coverage. I did ignore it on here, mostly because I wasn’t interested.

The team involved today and the fact it’s on tv clearly does exacerbate the coverage. But the incessant updates on the state of Dundee’s pitch, the coverage of an interim inspection and the updates on the weather in Dundee are frankly mind numbing.

It’s a good case study in how media and social media can fry people’s brains over the most mundane things.

Then please accept my apologies. I'd assumed you were inferring that this was only getting fussed over because Rangers were involved.

Amazing the amount of coverage something gets when the right people get excited by it.

    What a fucking carry on.

Did you just ignore the same things being said at the weekend when it was Motherwell visiting Dens?

Statements, complaints and interviews. 33 pages on their match thread before a ball was kicked. Doesn't suit the narrative though 🤣

If it makes you feel better just pretend an 11am pitch inspection wasn’t carried out but I take your point it doesn’t add a great deal of certainty to the game proceeding today.

Personally, I think a 11am inspection was a worthwhile effort given that if the pitch failed the 11am pitch inspection the referee may well have formed the opinion that with the anticipated rain the pitch would not improve or likely get worse.  That way an informed opinion could be made if it would be simply better to call off the game for today.

I don’t think the club could have announced earlier that there definitely would be a 3pm pitch inspection.  What if the 11am inspection had revealed a pitch that appeared ready to handle the anticipated level of precipitation.  Again personally, I had already anticipated a further pitch inspection, not least due to how events unfolded on Saturday.

This may not be a universally popular opinion but for it’s worth I genuinely do feel sympathy for the away fans this evening, or indeed any away fans in such circumstances.

Well that’s it. Moving it along to 3:30 isn’t really an issue, I just feel the frustration is there as it comes across as kicking the can down the road (which I appreciate isn’t exactly the case).

Folk just want to know if there will be a game on 😂

But that is exactly what has been said by the club...

Following this morning’s scheduled pitch inspection the match referee has decided that the pitch at The Scot Foam Stadium is currently playable. However, with rain forecast for later today both clubs and the league have agreed for a further pitch inspection to take place at 3.30pm today.

I meant when they initially announced the first inspection (last night I believe). There was no indication that the outcome of this inspection at 11am would likely lead to another one if the pitch was deemed playable.

I’m guessing the rationale was that if the pitch was unplayable at 11.00, then it definitely wouldn’t be playable in the evening. Thereby allowing an early postponement. Still agree though that just going straight to a 3pm inspection would’ve worked equally as well.

The first inspection was to see if the pitch was playable - first and foremost, if it wasn't playable at that time then there is no point in prolonging the decision. The second is clearly to see if the anticipated downpour had effected the areas in question badly enough that it is now deemed unplayable.

The covers in question aren't full pitch but rather localised ones for the areas in question. Won't take anywhere near as long to lay down and bring back up.

If that were the case, then it probably would've been wise for them to stipulate that if the pitch was deemed playable at 11am then there would be a further inspection carried out later in the day due to the forecasted weather.

It just feels like kicking the can down the road, and while I totally appreciate the weather is not the fault of Dundee, I think the frustrations are simply born out of fans likely expecting a decision to have been made at 11 which hasn't happened.

It wasn't raining when the covers were taken off. I don't really see the problem in the early inspection? League and club being as open and communicative as possible..

Another example of not really being able to win.

How could the early inspection (which Rangers wanted) have taken place with the covers on?

Because we've been told that the reason for the second inspection is due to the expected rain. We knew already what the weather forecast was, so was there ever any need to carry out the earlier pitch inspection if it was anticipated that additional expected rain fall might be an issue?

This isn't me suggesting it's a Dundee issue, I just don't really get the logic in removing and replacing covers (which we've been told takes considerable time) for the SPFL to conduct a pitch inspection that is contingent on forecasted rain that was already known about.

It was your manager whining for an early decision, and this is the consequence of trying to make an early decision.

The concept of changeable weather is clearly lost on those down Ibrox way, and a significant proportion of our media.

And an initial inspection at 3 would've allowed sufficient time for pretty much everyone concerned.

Now it just seems to have led to the situation where the covers seem to have been removed needlessly.

I wondered if it might've been better to do the inspection at around 3 o'clock. That way the covers could've been left on for a few more hours while still leaving time for fans to travel.

Said this earlier and still think it seemed a bit short-sighted to do an inspection so early given the forecast.

Is an additional 4 hours of rain likely to materially change the condition of the pitch come the time of the second inspection? If so, then they should've just left the covers on for a later inspection.

  11. There was an update on Sky Sports a wee while ago. Essentially said the pitch looks okay but there are three problem areas, being the two goalmouths and another section.

They said it was only these parts of the pitch that have been covered so I'm assuming they'll get the covers back on them again should it pass the 11am inspection so fingers crossed anyway.

Must admit, an 11.00am pitch inspection on a day when it’s forecast to rain all day, suggests to me they are going to call it off. Soon find out I guess.

Nope. We’ve essentially had 1/4 of the stadium on sale to us and we have around 1.5k left so will be around 10k atm. Over 1000 of these are in the South Stand at £41 each plus £7(!) postage charge per order. We may sell out the rest of our current allocation in the West but not the South at those prices. Celtic will be getting a good chunk of the North-West corner of the ground pretty soon I’d imagine.

I could be wrong, but isn’t the £7 postage fee only if you select special delivery as the method? For our Semi Final I was £41 for the North Stand which includes a £1 web sales fee.
