You do a lot of scribbling on here but no numbers to back up your claim re. finances ?

In what way has the retail agreement been normalised ? As we speak, the Sevco support are being royally taken for mugs (yet again), this time by a couple of barrow boys from Liverpool who allegedly have a 5 year agreement to supply "world beating kit". 🤪 Plus, Mr. Ashley is still taking his cut.

    Aye, that's normal in Sevcoland.

You also do a lot of scribbling on here to be fair. Not much of it about Hibs right enough, but that's your prerogative.

The agreement has clearly been normalised - it's very similar to the deal we had with JJB a decade ago. £3m up front, plus a cut of all sales above that figure. That's been confirmed through various newspapers. In terms of Ashley, he buys some kits from Castore and flogs them. That's fine - by the time he's bought them from Castore, we've already made our cut. The entire reason we were able to normalise the agreement is because Castore offered a £3m p.a. upfront payment that Sports Direct couldn't match, ergo releasing us of the requirements of the matching clause.

The quality has been varied at best so far, but that's not really a big deal. Kickstarting a big procurement process at a time like this is high risk. And of course, none of that has any bearing on the money paid to Rangers by Castore as a result.

All we can go on is the information we have, and at this point, these are the details of the contract that we know about. Everything indicates a fairly standard relationship.

    🤣🤣🤣🤣

There is an ongoing commitment from existing shareholders to cover any losses through the issue of soft loans which will be subsequently converted to equity. This commitment has been honoured since King came into the club over five years ago.

On top of that, the retail agreement has been normalised, season ticket money has just come in and we've demonstrated the ability to spend close to £10m on new players. I don't think anyone can seriously argue that Rangers finances aren't fine.

I appreciate that 2012 was very much the high point of some peoples Scottish football experience, but those still intent on trying to portray Rangers as being in serious financial trouble eight years later are akin to those middle-aged men you see in a mid-life crisis, trying desperately to relive their youth. You understand why they do it, but you can't help but cringe a little bit when you look at them.

I agree with all your points and if Turnbull chooses Celtic because of personal reasons then that is perfectly fine for him to do that.

I debate this with people though that Celtic are guaranteed Champions league football. They are guaranteed the chance to qualify for it. I haven't worked it out but I'd guess they have a 50/50 chance of qualifying for the groups most seasons.

Another point of the appeal of Champions league is to get to play against a Bayern or a Barcelona, that is great but it is only 6 games if you even qualify. I would say you can put Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal, Man City, Spurs and Chelsea in that category of 'super clubs' too. At Newcastle he is guaranteed to play 12 games every year against this opposition and on top of that his run of the mill games are not Ross County and Hamilton but are Everton, Leeds Utd or Leicester. The most unappealing game in the EPL is maybe playing Burnley, that is comparable to Aberdeen in Scotland which would be deemed Celtics biggest fixture after Rangers. There are many more big games if you are at any EPL club than there is if you are at one of the Old Firm.

Celtic have qualified for the CL group stages in four of the last ten years.

Can't believe McCrorie has been called up, he's not even our best keeper, never mind one of three top Scottish keepers.  Congratulations to Lyndon though.

It makes more sense to me to put McCrorie on the bench, who is probably the nations best hope for a future Scotland No. 1 at this point, than some jabroni like Craig McGillivray who got benched by Portsmouth and hasn't played since January.

I think Kate Forbes has the potential, but that's a few years away yet.

I wouldn't count on Kate Forbes.

By the time she's ready for the big job, there will be a Highlands and Islands for Independence party advocating independence from rScotland for H&I. She'll be in that.

  6. CONFIRMADO: El delantero colombiano Alfredo Morelos (24) le ha solicitado formalmente al #Rangers que acepte la oferta de 20M€ hecha por el #Lille. Horas decisivas.

For the part-time supporters that haven't learned Spanish following the arrival of Morelos, it basically says he's requested that we accept a €20m (£18m) bid from Lille.

Forgot to add, it is from a Colombian journalist

As counter-intuitive as it might be, my instinct has always been thaf if you don't have two good centre halves, then you play three at the back. It's easier to defend the box and you can let Robertson attack more than he would having to protect a poor centre half in a two. It often ends up as a four anyway with one wing-back tucking in and the other having to push higher to stop a cross. When you don't have a competent right back, it seems like a no-brainer.

However, I'd also say that three at the back needs a lot more work on the training pitch; I'd only be playing it if it was a long term plan.

I seem to remember Scotland playing a game (no idea which one) where they played three at the back, two wingbacks and an out and out defensive midfielder and they basically ended up with six at the back. The midfield has to be confident enough to push high and bring the defence with it.

I see your point, but I'd argue with the particular profile of CB we have, instead of playing 3 at the back, play 4 and simply play a flat midfield three that stops passes into feet for the opposition strikers. Keep the centre mids rigid and let them shuffle over as the ball is moved about.

That then leaves two of McKenna/Gallagher/Cooper to primarily deal with the aerial threat, which is their strength.

I'd basically play the formation that Rangers played in European games last year that made Niko Katic (who is also great in the air but not great at everything else) look class.

We've named three left-backs in quite a few squads since Clarke took over. I've just assumed it's because he likes all three players and it does absolutely no harm to have them all around, rather than the sort of mental stigma of someone like Taylor being dropped and then reselected every few months. I don't think it necessarily points to him playing any particular sort of system. Worth remembering that Palmer has played centre-back a bit in his career too, not that I'm expecting him to line up there for us.

The thing that stands out more to me is that Forrest is the only out-and-out winger there. The likes of Burke, Armstrong and Christie can play wide too, but they're all primarily central players. It will be interesting to see what that means in terms of the shape of the team, but I am pleased that it hopefully means we've seen the last of Matt Phillips.

Hopefully it means a 4-3-2-1 formation. McGinn/Christie/Armstrong linking up with McBurnie could work - he needs players making runs ahead of him.

You are totally spot on here.

Griffiths has mental health issues which, I think, have been pretty well publicised. Yes, he must be a pain in the arse but at all times, he appears to have been supported by his club.

Morelos is a stranger in a strange land, doesn't speak English and has been ragdolled by his club as a) a free-scoring talisman b) a scapegoat for the administrative and commercial shortcomings of the board / c.f ex-players and pundits now freely briefing to the press poodles against Morelos c) as a transfer bargaining chip in the club's desperate search for funds.

There is no comparison between the two.

I mean, there's been plenty of press briefings about how Griffiths "needs to get his act together" and "his time at Celtic is over" etc. I'll presume you missed those. Not that Griffiths deserves a particularly gracious exit from football due to his past.

Morelos has done very well out of Rangers, he's had at least three contract extensions and is probably our top earner. He's earned enough to be able to set up a charity foundation to help the poor of Cerete, and he's going to go and play in a top European league and has achieved his dream of playing for Colombia. I don't really recall any examples of Morelos being used to cover the alleged shortcomings of the board, and Rangers are clearly well funded, as I discussed earlier.

    Apart from that though...

I'm not apologizing for throwing a curve ball in to get this thread going,if Griffiths got his act together he has a good 3 to 4 years left to close the gap not the enormous chasm being suggested.
The enigma that is Griffiths and wee Fredo always creates a circus, El buffalo has scored 3 goals this year Griffiths has 8 both off the rails.

You can't really compare Morelos with Griffiths.

Aside from a bad week of training, Morelos has been absolutely fine. Griffiths issues are much more serious than that.

Boyd has something like 220 league goals for Killie and Rangers, Griffiths has 114-ish for Celtic and Hibs. (I'm not sure on the exact numbers but they're in that range).
Boyd's closest competition to the record in this era is still Henrik Larsson, but he's 70 or so goals behind.

How many did KB score while being part remunerated with an EBT? All those would be removed from the record in any other sport.

He wouldn’t have scored goals in any other sport, so it’s an irrelevant point.

I downloaded the RTE Player app just watch a show that ended up not being on the app anymore, instead I watched Soccer Republic with highlights of the LOI, pleasantly surprised that the football wasn't awful, was nice to hear fans at a game too. I have a bit of a soft spot for Bohs, mostly because I dislike Shamrock Rovers but it seems like fans of both clubs are considered wankers so I think I need a new team to root for.

Interesting in the First Division that the place with the worst accent in Ireland, Limerick's side went bust and were replaced by Shamrock Rovers II, glad to see they have only managed one win so far this year.

You can't be serious with the worst accent in Ireland stuff, Cork wins that by a country mile.

Worked with a lad from Cork once and it was painful trying to communicate with him. He couldn't understand my accent either though to be fair.

St Pats are my local team, been once or twice to Inchicore, the quality isn't bad at all. The real problem for LOI is turning people from Man Utd and Liverpool fans into LOI fans. United and Liverpool totally dominate football here.
