In terms of multiples of income required to secure a loan and also the size of the deposit required I would absolutely agree.

In terms of monthly mortgage repayments and specifically monthly rent (which was what the original point was) then no, not at the moment, for the majority of people.

That's not the case. See page 15 in this report. BN161.pdf

EDIT: apologies I meant page 12

To be fair I specifically excluded city centres when I said the following.

In 1990 I was paying about 33% of my disposable income on rent.

Is it as bad as that now for most people?

Those in cities on low incomes? Probably yes.

Also, it doesn't need someone earning £60k.

It only requires a couple earning £30k each and that sort of wage is around the average.

A single person should not be renting a city centre 2 bed flat at those rates.

I was paying 33% of my take home pay on a single room in a shared house on the outskirts of a city. THAT is the fair comparison to make, not some random single person living in their own 2 bed flat in an expensive city centre. So a single room in a shared house for a single person for comparison in Edinburgh would be around £400 quid. That tells a bit of a different story.

It's undeniably a lot more expensive than it used to be. I don't think it is the main reason that people are having less children but I think it may be a big factor in why certain expensive cities are seeing big declines in young families. Places like Brighton and York have seen large declines in the number of children from the 2011 census to the one released this summer.

France was arguably the first country to have a fertility rate decline in the 19th century. The main reason seems to be the rise of secularism.

Seems like it might be a Scottish record fee for Bassey

Maybe but still need the bids to be higher than they currently have. The Daily Mail were saying last night that Ajax have bid £19m which hasn't been accepted.

He has two years left on his deal so we aren't going to get this value again unless we get him to sign a new contract.

No Bassey in our squad for the Blackpool game today which suggests a deal is likely.

Some truth in that. Though I think Tav-Goldson-Souttar-Barisic is a backline that's perfectly capable of getting us to the CL groups.

Big issue for us is we need some luck in the draw. If we draw Monaco in R3 or PSV in the PO then it might not matter what reinforcements we make. Those are two teams that will likely just put us on our arse, and we've a 50/50 chance of drawing PSV (assuming both sides win in R3).

Is Souttar not injured at the moment?

The Times are reporting that the loan will have an option to buy. Really exciting signing this one if the option to buy is true. The exact profile of player we should be looking at.

Between this and the Bassey sale, it's going to be a busy few days.

If Bassey is sold we need to be quick in getting defensive replacements in. Less than 3 weeks until our first qualifier.

I’m of two minds about it, there’s definitely a minimum bar of not getting booted off the ball, but there have been plenty of wirey strikers who score without being able to deadlift a car - Vardy, Berbatov, Torres etc were never massive.

Berbatov and Torres were both 6 foot+. My understanding is that Weston is still really short. Only 5.7".

How does one bet on the “economy will perform worse” market?

Loads of ways. You can short stocks, buy commodity futures and invest in inflation hedges. Depends really on what you mean exactly when you predict the economy will perform worse.
