  1. Yeah, it’s crazy that it’s not been called off yet. The forecast has been awful for a couple of days and shows no sign of changing. Im all for giving games a chance if the forecast is rapidly changing or if the wind/rain etc is borderline but if it’s anything like the forecast then it can’t be played. It doesn’t need a ref to make the decision, just someone with access to a tv, computer or smart phone….. oh, and a brain.
  2. Yeah. Also, don’t want to get into the rights and wrongs of us choosing to not be full-time but Arbroath are a part-time team which means most of the players will have to take time off work for this. And any fans that are planning to travel down.
  3. Hats off to all the Ayr fans. Not read a single post along the lines of “Arbroath will definitely want this on as they play in *a wind tunnel/hurricane/gale/storm every week so this would give them a huge advantage”. * delete as appropriate… or use all if from the BBC.
  4. Crossing everything that tomorrow’s game is off. If the forecast is accurate then I can’t see any way it can be played. Hopefully it’s off and the extra few days recovery means some players are back from injury for Saturday.
  5. Replace “Kate” with “Kim Jong Un” and we’d all be laughing our asses off at how ludicrous it is.
  6. In years to come we will look back on players like Scott Stewart and David Gold and probably only then realise their full worth and fully appreciate what they did and continue to do for this club. Two more committed and versatile players it would be hard to find. Between them they must have played every position on the pitch. Guys like McKenna, Little, O’Brien and Linn tend to get (deservedly) most of the love but Gold and Stewart are right up there imo. The Wall of Fame is going to be something else in a few years.
  7. Don’t take my advice as correct as I’m certainly no training expert but I never followed a strict plan when I was running marathons, so I can’t see why you can’t tweak the plan to fit your own personal situation. I had pals that followed plans to the letter and I felt that it tended to take all the “fun”, flexibility and spontaneity out of training for them e.g. “it’s pissing it down and I feel like shit but my plan says I have to run a 10 mile tempo so I’m doing it”. Marathon training is a slog at the best of times so feeling like you’re a slave to every run/mile isn’t healthy imo. I always trained based on feel - if I didn’t feel like a specific planned run one day then I would sack it off until the next day etc. To me the important thing was that I aimed for 3 quality sessions per week - a speed session, a tempo run and a long run. Everything else was just getting miles in the legs. I also found that the more long runs that I could do the better, normally around 7-8 in a 16 week schedule. This approach served me well enough as I got a PB in every marathon I ran before I jacked it in when my kids came along. Cant believe how much I miss it.
  8. Didn’t he also call Bobby Linn the “Charleston Messi” every time he was within 10 yards of the ball? Appreciate the work you do but less is more mate.
  9. I think the main reason for that is that the Irish Premiership doesn’t start until February so by the time European games come around, they’re in the middle of their season and are much more match fit than our woefully unprepared teams. Same as the Scandinavian leagues, gives them a big advantage imo. Put e.g. Sligo Rovers (who beat Motherwell last season) into our Premiership and they’d likely be pumped every week. The top 2 or 3 would probably hold their own but the rest would be miles off it.
  10. Quite happy with those signings - all from a decent level and all young. Nice spread of positions too.
  11. Now we’ve got the defence shored up a bit, I think i’d like to see either a winger or a big strong central midfielder as the 3rd player.
  12. Could also mean Steele is out long term as has been hinted at. New RB, LB and ToB and Hamilton at CB.
  13. Me too. Getting players in is brilliant but this buildup is a bit OTT unless there’s at least one player to excite us.
  14. It was a joke but come on, as has been said, do you really think that Donnelly is a better attacking option than Bird, Hylton or McIntosh? I’ll give you Turan. I really warmed to Hilson towards the end of his time with us but he wasn’t a goal scorer. Just look at how they’re doing in L1 at Alloa and Stirling… I think that tells you everything.
  15. The big return of Hilson, Donnelly and…… Corfe!!!!
  16. Maybe it’s just a new line of half zip jumpers or dog bowls… or the new corporate brochure they’re about to announce. Only kidding, any signings is great news.
  17. I know, I’m only kidding. I sincerely hope the game goes ahead as I think we may still have enough to beat Ayr even taking everything into account.
  18. Any way a few Arbroath based fans could pop down to Gayfield overnight with bags of ice cubes to put on the pitch? A couple of inches over the 6 yard boxes would be enough to get the game postponed
  19. Yeah it’s almost too depressing to think about. These 2 games v Ayr could/should be a turning point in our season but the fact we could still be struggling to put out any kind of proper team is grim. I’m sure we all thought that getting to January would see an immediate improvement in signings and squad availability but it looks like it’ll be another couple of weeks before we see much change. It’s so frustrating as I think we can see green shoots of improvement under McIntyre. Here’s hoping that the full week’s rest will enable a few of the crocks to return tomorrow, not to mention giving all the “fit” players a much needed rest.
  20. The saddest thing about it is that he somehow got permission to demolish the original house on the site in order to build that monstrosity. If I remember correctly, it was a very nice old building - previously owned by Princess Di’s granny supposedly. The kind of building you can imagine being listed. I wonder how he managed to get the kind of permission that most would be denied?
  21. I sincerely hope they do push the boat out. The financial implications of relegation would be fairly massive I would imagine. We are setup as a Championship club now and the knock to sponsorships, merch sales, season tickets, hospitality, gate receipts, tv money, prize money etc would be huge. I would rather the board splashed the cash (within reason) to try and keep that as opposed to dropping to L1 and starting again. Could quite easily be another QOTS…. Or worse.
  22. We’re all desperate for new signings or returns from injury but I suppose there’s a gulf between expectation and reality. I had hoped that there would have been a number of players identified (perhaps there are) and ready to be announced as soon as the window opened. As already said, there will be tireless work going on behind the scenes and I’m sure we’ll see signings or returns, hopefully very soon… as in this week soon. Seeing a team like Dundee United, who don’t really need much, announce a few already makes it a bit more frustrating.
