  1. I'm reminded of a follower of a certain club that shall remain nameless allegedly saying that 1979 was his favourite year. "Why?" he was asked. " 'Cos two Popes died and Danny McGrain broke his leg" he allegedly replied.
  2. I read an interview with McAvennie a few years ago. "Do you still take a drink?" he was asked "I do" he said "only it's all turned around. I used to go on the lash for three days and it would take me a day to recover. These days I go on the lash for a day and it takes me three days to recover"
  3. American Footballers and Baseball players have been doing it for years. Not sure if it is boot polish they use, though.
  4. I shared that with a former Boss of mine who told me that it was in August 1965 at Lord's, Middlesex v Surrey and he was there!!
  5. It is and female, professional jockeys have their first names listed.
  6. Didn't they used to heat the two balls corresponding to the Old Firm to make sure they wouldn't be drawn together?
  7. But.....but....Scotland played there in the 80s in a European Championship Qualifier. A dire game that ended up scoreless.
  8. Here's a train from the City pulling up at Lansdowne Road Station having travelled under the West Stand.
  9. Then there was the one that said "What shall ye do when the Son of God shall lead His forces against ye?" To which the reply was "Move St John to Inside Left" RIP
  10. There were actually two Clubhouses in the old Lansdowne Road. The one in that photo is Wanderers FC ( three of whose members won VCs in the Great War). The other one was at the other end of that stand and was Lansdowne FC. (Both clubs are Rugby Clubs, founded before the codes split, so they don't use the "R". By the way,the top deck of that stand was above the Mainline railway.
