Another hire a park and play team.

For me it should be a pre requisite that clubs have their own facilities on which they have 1st call upon.

Why??? which club has a spare £350,000 to buy and equip a facility.
that’s just not a viable business proposition. Can’t see many financial institutions wanting to back that sort of arrangement. Just my opinion but I think you may well kill off lower lever football with that point of view. Nobody actually buys a new car these days - lease is the name of the game. Not many people pay the entire cost of a house up front. Why are you expecting a  football club to be able to do so?

Will be good to know the ins and outs going on for next season

I have seen Tranent are really splashing the cash and must be red hot favourites already for next season

Good luck to them. I noticed earlier this morning on Donateaticket that TJFC are certainly running away with that league.

However, I’m impressed by Jeanfield Swift. I like the setup and ethos of J.S..

I’m sure every club is trying to get stronger for the new season.

    Hopefully the best team wins.

Who knows what 2021-22 will bring, but if Jeanfield continue at the pace they’ve set since coming over to EoS, they will be my favs for Premier league next season. Strong/powerful team, best in my opinion in last two seasons.

Agreed ,,, I think my money would be going on the Swits, but some clubs seem to be signing players with a flourish. It’s certainly looking like a lively season. Shame there’s only one winner.

Lagavaulin is 100% more smokey than peaty. It's vey different to the other distilleries on Islay.

Agree, but I don’t find Bowmore too peaty.
but the Lagavulin 16 yo is superb. I spent a couple of weeks working on Islay 30 years ago. Most of the locals used to drink Grouse,,, until I was buying. Then it changed to Lagavulin 16 😂😅

Ive done this for both my young children at Tomatin and got a photo with them holding the bottle.

Will keep until each of them reaches 18yo in 2035 & 2038 respectively.

Well done -I recommend all my friends to at least get a bottle that is the same age as their kids or if a new born - get a cask filled. It’s totally memorable.

Wringe to Tranent fi lothian is a cracking signing him n kayno up top should bang in some goals. Tranent shaping up well already with Mathew Knox huge season for him to get career back in track and grinchy from pemicuik

Some impressive signings taking place at Forrester Park. However personally I don’t think TJFC will run away with the league. Never really hear a lot about what Jeanfield are up to - they’ll have a big say in matters, as will 4 or 5 other clubs. Hopefully fans, players and officials of all clubs will enjoy the new season.

    Brilliant news!

    Good morning Seasiders

I have been advised by the Scottish FA that, at their meeting on Wednesday 14 April, the Scottish FA Board approved the club’s membership application.

The membership (and Entry level licence award) will be effective from the Scottish FA AGM, scheduled for 20 July 2021.

It’s the final confirmation for us that everyone's hard work here has been recognised.  Huge thanks to you all our supporters for their role in enabling the club to make this happen.

Our main focus, behind the scenes, is now on getting our squad ready for our senior Scottish Cup debut and an improved performance in the East of Scotland Premier League.

    Many thanks
    Stuart
    Board Chair, Dunbar United FC

Seems like someone is happy! Well done guys, enjoy the benefits of the work done👏

The only really mismatch a saw was any1 playing Eyemouth was a shame to see the young laddies struggle. Plenty effort from them though. Do they have a manager now. The rest of the conferences seemed pretty competitive

Tweedmouth were also on the wrong side of few doings - but I do remember them beating a very decent team once.

Great enthusiasm for the game. And actually had not a bad goalie.

  9. BOTTLE FILLING

One my greatest and most pleasurable Whisky experiences was several years ago.

    and it’s worth sharing

On a visit to the Glenturret at Crieff,,,, I spotted a cask.
After friendly discussion with the always helpful staff, it was a Special Bottle Your Own Cask.

I think this was the 3rd cask too be used. The first Cast was donated to Prince William  - who has put it way/given it for charitable use in the future : an excellent idea. I think the second cask was named after Towser - the distillery cat who held Guinness record for catching mice.

my Cask was the Andy Murray. It’s a great feeling to be given your own empty bottle, to then complete the filling tube with 70cl of the product, then release the filling tube into your bottle. You then have to complete the Cusoms & Excise manual and label the bottle, complete with your own signature and date.

Even for this crusty auld nippy guy; it was a memorable occasion. My better half was taken with my performance - she paid for it - it was another significant birthday.

I recommend trying this experience - the staff at Glenturret were so helpful, they videoed it on my camera took lots of photos, and it’s not expensive.
Very like the bottle, the memories last a lifetime.

I think that’s what Whisky marketing is all about. Market and hype a product : the price it sky high.
But - I personally find all the Johnnie Walker products to be superb.
That Brazilian chap who donated the worlds biggest whisky collection to the Scotch Whisky Visitor Centre, Castlehill, Edin. He never ever drank anything except Red Label. He wasn’t daft

I dont know Blue Label, but Black and Green are excellent at their respective price points.

They certainly are. But the true Malt guys simply don’t rate them. Strange but even as recently as 40 years ago ,,,, single malts were pretty uncommon. Glenlivet and Glenmorangie were the two of the most popular then. Actually I’ve got a 16yo Glenlivet bought for my birthday about 43/44 years ago by my wife. It’s still unopened. The box was ruined by something when it was under the sink. I’m still waiting for that very special occasion to open it. They really were that uncommon. It’s my number one bottle and will stay that way forever.  Everything has been experienced during that time - Births/ jobs/ degrees/ business’/houses and more but I still can’t open that particular bottle. Actually I compared the bottle to another substitute that I have recently. Everything is pretty much identical - label, bottle, foil cap wrapper (forgotten the name for that) and I’m pretty sure the contents. It could tell more than a few stories that bottle. And to me, that’s what it’s all about. It’s become a family member. Strangely it’s a brand that I don’t particularly enthuse about. But it’s always going to be there.

Yet you don't know about Scapa?

I'll just assume you polished off the latest bottle prior to posting that. 😉

I hate this word check - it changed it to Scalpy!!!  I’ve made worse faux pas - and I’ll do a lot more; trust me😂😅
Yes I find the Scapa to be a very friendly distillery. Very low key,,,, nice helpful people.

Blue Label for me is the most overpriced and overhyped whisky going. Green Label is great value for money, Blue Label isn't that much better but puts you back more than double what I'd pay for it.

Is that not too peaty though? Tired laphroig and it can get in the sea.

That's a good question actually. Probably trophy cabinet describes it well but with the possibility of drinking. Might do both. It is a BIG birthday after all. Thanks

I assume the first picks are in line with Deanston & Highland Park?

there's a shop near me with lots of Arran Whisky in it. I'll go have a look. Thanks

Probably closer to saving to drink with pals. Budget probably 100-150.

Thanks. It's a few days away yet. After tasting Laphroig Ive shyed away from Isaly or peaty stuff. Am I wrong in doing that? Live in Italy so your tempting suggestion of a visit to the SMWS isn't an option unfortunately. The Milan online Whisky shop are doing some online tastings though. Do you think this looks good value based on the samples?

I’d certainly be interested in the Bowmore. The Orkney is wee bit vague,,, there’s the 2 distilleries - Highland Park and Scalpy, just saying Orkney is a wee bit woolly.

Speaking as someone who does distillery trips 3 or 4 or 5 times a year, enjoys the product, has collection of 208 bottles to empty in ma house - it’s just whatever you enjoy. Frequently it’s that lesser known bottle around £25 which is truly delightful. I’ve got bottles up to £260 - which I think is expensive, but really isn’t. I still have to say when all is done and dusted, it’s just a fun pastime. I honestly think that too much is made out of all this Malt business.
You’d be really really hard pushed to find a better product than the excellent Johnnie Walker Blue or Green labels. Absolutely first class !!!!

Try the Blue Label ... you won’t be disappointed.

Actually it’s that good, that at Gleneagles in the Dormie Clubhouse - they hold around 400 personal bottles of members Blue Label for their individual visits. Now do you think they’d do that for an inferior whisky. The entire room only holds Blue Label.

Do people use any of these taster subscriptions? Fees like it could be a good way to branch out and discover more?

I recently ordered 5 samples from master of malt, just before making the leap to buying full bottles, but have been considering a monthly sub as a treat to myself.

Scotch Malt Whisky Society have very comprehensive service. It’s geared to a universal market. Can’t really comment - I’m fortunate to live within easy distance of their establishment.

Right, I know you big lads like a challenge. I have a big birthday coming up and would like a quality bottle to celebrate. Still a relative novice so would like some pointers.

I do enjoy bourbons but in the Scotch world, I have really enjoyed Highland Park 12 and Deanston 12. I have a Deanston 18 sitting in storage for when the postage rules ease up and have been looking at Highland Park offerings but there are loads of them. I'm not stuck on these two distilleries but that's the depth of my experience so I am open to suggestions.

Over to you fellas. Thanks in advance.

Well JB - happy birthday. Recommendations will no doubt be as diverse as possible. Personally I enjoy many of the Islay products - but cannot under circumstances get used to Laphroaig. I also struggle with the Brucladdich and sometimes. The Laphroaig scenario shouldn’t happen - Ardbeg and Lagavulin are within 2 miles of the dark peaty one but taste so much more akin to my palate. However Bowmore is King of the crop. For the big day - it may be worth considering a tasting glass lunch or diner session at the Scotch Malt Whisky  Society in Queen Street,  Edinburgh.  A tremendous experience in great surroundings with an amazing range of own casks!!!

very informative, great drink, tremendous food. Totally recommend it when able to visit. In the meantime Lagavulin 16yo or Bowmore Gold

I'm afraid that if you don't own the ground and your lease doesn't specifically exclude it from being rented to other clubs then you don't get to choose whether you approve of it or not.

Exactly,,, the higher the facility utilisation, the better it has to  e for everyone. Football /rugby grounds/stadiums must be the worst performing sector in terms of actual use. How many matches in a session  - 20 average 25 with a good cup run. So on the higher number it’s used for 2/3 hours every 14 days. Not a great use of sparse resources.

Maximise the utilisation - some German community owned senior clubs have the stadium in use 7/7.

Yeah, because the economics of Scottish football are in great shape and every club can afford to buy land and build their own ground. I would argue that ground sharing is actually the way forward for clubs, and should be looked at as a serious option to ensure their longevity.

There’s no doubt the economics argument alone is a very strong facilitator to ground sharing. A very sensible option - it’s worked in the past for some huge clubs - San Siro. I’m thinking that the BSC/Alloa example is more to do with the locale that BSC have chosen to play in. Perhaps there’s many reasons for not playing at, or sharing a ground or facility closer to their home patch. I don’t know the circumstances. It’s probably unique in playing 30 odd miles from their original base.
