  1. Don't feel too bad about that one, to be honest.

In the League Cup semi we lacked any kind of plan and were just pushed aside. That was different today.

Rangers didn't really bother us a lot more than we bothered them, and Ifelt there was a clear plan for how Hearts were going to explot them in the wide areas. But when we got into good positions there was a lot of poor decision-making in terms of final pass, and basic errors like poor first touch. To win games like that you need to execute your opportunities, and Hearts failed to do that. But I think we were in the game until the second goal and it was a decent enough punt at it.

You're always second favouritesagainst the OF, and you need things to go right. Ultimately, we lost two unbelievably cheap goals in a game where we were rarely troubled apart from that. But you need to do more when you get into good positions, and that's what cost us.

Could have been worse. It's been a good season and we just need to go and see out third now.

  2. Not getting dragged into ref chat, and I'm just going out.

But, even in games with no VAR, it's not unusual to see a ref let a foul go to see how play develops then stop the game when it becomes obvious the fouled-against team are at a disadvantage.

Anyone who watches football has seen this.

    Anyway. f**k the ****, I'm off.

You think a dramatic cup semi like that would get noticed? Think again.

Just watched the sports bulletin in BBC Breakfast. Practically wetting themselves over extended coverage of a one-goal English Cup semi. Then more gushing over the Moneybags Premiership with interviews etc. Then a brisk mention of the Scottish semi where we saw the winning penalty  and nothing else, moving swiftly on to extended, lovingly-described coverage of England's women's rugby mismatch v Ireland.

They really don't care any more, do they?

Not sure why you think anyone would or should be interested.

We've got BBC Scotland for our stuff. Nobody down south gives a f**k about the Scottish Cup, and very few people could even tell you who is playing in the semis.

    No point pretending it's news.

    Enjoy.

There is a stat in the media that says Hearts have never beaten the opposition at Hampden.

I assume by that they mean the new club The Rangers and not the old version that was liquidated.

No. We've never beaten them at Hampden.

We beat them in the Scottish Cup final in 1998, but that was at Parkhead.

A very poor record. Got to change sometime.

It’s always a big ask to beat them both at hampden to win a cup (has it ever happened?) but both teams have vulnerabilities.

Celtic are almost ideologically poor at the back. They take no steps to cover for any deficiencies so at a time when their centre halves are pretty poor the opportunities are there. It’s then just a question of bravery for teams like ours. The players are there to hurt them, you just have to be brave in possession. So often that doesn’t happen.

I have to say I don’t particularly fancy hearts today but you never know. Much stranger things have happened.

    Celtic: The USSR of football.

Can't think of anyone winning a cup beating them both at Hampden. Somebody on here will know if it's happened.

It's a bus in the sky. Genuinely don't know why folk get so up uptight about low cost airlines when they wouldn't do it about train or bus companies.

My problem with Ryanair is their ticket price increases.

I've used buses and trains to get around the UK. On a coach I can take a bigger bag than Ryanair, and it's generally included in the price. On a train I can take any size of bag I fancy for absolutely f**k all. I'll generally be treated with respect by the staff in both of those scenarios too.

Ryanair are miles worse than either of those options in the UK.

If it's a choice between Ryanair or the train between the south of England and Scotland, it's an absolute no-brainer. Train every time. Bus takes too long, obviously.

Genuinely quite sad. I know refs have always been discussed but I swear VAR has made this even more insufferable.

To disrupt this with football chat, o’reilly’s finish for his goal is very aesthetically pleasing. He could’ve scored with a far inferior finish but the accuracy is tremendous.

Celtics defence is mercifully garbage though, I don’t remember us having so many chances against them in a game at hampden. We’ve basically scored the same goal twice with someone just drifting in at the back post, presume Liam scales is at fault for that.

Massive hurdle in the way to get there, but their defence yesterday is one I'd fancy playing in a cup final. Looked so vulnerable to the cross ball, and were awfully square quite often when Aberdeen were in possession in the middle of the park.

Hoilett's cameo looked like it might go down in Scottish fitba folklore.

Was only half-joking when I posted on here that I expected Aberdeen to win and Hearts to get scudded. It had the feel of a Big Cup Story about it.

  8. 3-3, two last-minute equalisers, a penalty shoot-out, a keeper missing the penalty to win it before saving one to win it.

And we've got 100 pages on a penalty decision that didn't impact the outcome of the game. 🤣

f**k me. Anyway, time to crack the first can of the day. Hope Hearts make as much of a game of it today.

    It's a bit student journalismy.

I've not heard anyone I'd normally listen to react with anything other than positivity to the appointment. So, who are the folk this article is railing against?

And some of the points are quite weak.  Cifuentes, for example, "turning around" QPR's form would be challenged by a lot of QPR fans. They remain a very streaky team, as they were before he went there, and they remain at very real risk of relegation. Stendel, although I don't hold him responsible for it, relegated Hearts.

And that's before we encounter the issue of whether Jim Goodwin is Scottish.

Not great writing, imo. And I'm not sure what made this a necessary article.

It would be hilariously funny if Aberdeen win this but they will probably get scudded 9-0 again, the useless Cormack shagging bellends they are.

Aberdeen are going into this lower than a snake's belly. Not so much out of form as just plain shite, fans can't be arsed, nobody thinks they've got a prayer.

Rangers are struggling, Hearts are having a good season, we're taking a big support, people are enthusiastic.

So, the only possible outcome is Aberdeen beating Celtic 1-0 while we lose by 4 or 5 to the sticky buns.

Nobody would be crying it's a scandal if Queens Park and Partick Thistle were playing in place of Celtic and Rangers this weekend.

I don't believe either of those sides have their own end at Hampden, or that their teams essentially have their home changing area there. Of course that's relevant.

It's technically neutral, but the way the OF are treated at Hampden stretches that definition to its very limits.

There's absolutely no justification for it. I heard some Police rep on the radio once talking about how it was necessary so that the fans could enter the stadium safely. You see, asking Rangers and Celtic fans to negotiate different ends of the same stadium on different visits is utterly impossible, but asking Hearts fans to do the same if we win our semi and play Celtic in the final (or probably even Aberdeen) is absolutely fine.

    It's ridiculous.

17/2 now for Hearts win on bet365, seems like way too high odds. IMO.

    Will Shankland be playing?

    Thank you.

I can't say I think Hearts are in any way favourites here, but that seems a very generous price.

Number 9 seems to be fit and well as far as I know.

I’m not really bothered about the lack of replays, as mentioned above it gives you a far better chance of actually winning and making more money in the next round.

It is obviously absolutely appalling that it has been put in place without consulting anyone in the lower leagues though.

There could easily have been some sort of concession made too to give the bigger clubs what they wanted, lower league clubs getting 75% of the gate when drawing a Premiership club for example.

Aye. But the biger clubs know that they don't really need to make meaningful concessions.

What the f**k are Port Vale going to do about it?

    Baw is burst.

  14. There'll be a few more bumps in the road like this as fitba finds its new world. Next stop teams in Europe not playing in the League Cup, and then eventually that comp will just get binned.

You simply can't support the current list of competitions while the elite level of the game expands at the rate it is. More European fixtures, the Nations League, summer tours, winter tours, Club World Cup, bigger international tournaments. Eventually something has to go, and that will be dictated by the clubs with money.

There's an echo-chamber at work here as well. A lot of my mates support lower league English sides, and speaking to them you'd think the entire nation was outraged about this. But fans of the bigger clubs and your classic Soccer AM fan types generally don't give a f**k what happens down the pyramid. It's completely removed from their experience of fitba.

I can see the argument both ways. As a paying fan, I'm not delighted at the prospect of paying £30 to see a cup tie then be asked to pay the same again because it was a draw. But the funding issue for clubs down the level is real. The obvious answer to this is genuinely better general distribution of football's money, but this will not happen.

We're reaching the point where different levels of football club just need to go their separate ways and stop this farce of pretending it's all one big system. It isn't, and the pretence does nobody any good.

I was the same until a couple of years ago. Never swore around my parents (still don't swear much around my dad save the occasional word) and it was a shock to hear either of them swearing when me and my brothers were kids. Even when we became adults my parents rarely swore around us. Old man drops a few more these days but not loads and only a couple of them.

Me and the missus were visiting my mum a while back and the missus dropped in a "Oh, f**k off", when she ran into trouble trying to use an app to book tickets for something. IN MY MUM'S KITCHEN! 🤣

I don't think I've ever shot her such a look! Disgraceful behaviour.

Ticket sales are good for us. Don't know why people think otherwise.

This will be the first time since the Hibs semi in 2000 where we'll have less than 10k at a venue which is essence 3 hours away. There's absolutely no way any other club bring that figure to Pittodrie outwith Celtic and Rangers.

There's absolutely no incentive to go tomorrow. Horrific record against Celtic, horrific record at Hampden and officiated by some Glasgow numpties. Add in that it's £40 a ticket in the south stand. I can see why people have said no to going.

This all depends on how folk think their team will do. Aberdeen fans think they'll get pumped, so they won't turn up.

In your hypothetical situation of Hearts playing a semi at Pittodrie, it would likewise depend entirely on how we expected to do. Against the Old Firm in poor form? Shite turnout. Against Hibs in good form, we'd fill Pittodrie. Obviously, factor in kick-off times etc.

It's basically as simple as that with Scottish attendances.

There’s a few behind the goals

but a few random available seats keep appearing in other previously sold out sections which must be returns or something

I wasn’t going to go because I thought I’d left it too late to get decent tickets

but then I saw a couple of good seats in the north stand appear out of nowhere so I’m onboard

    Good man.

A couple of my mates were displaying fear and moral weakness in the face of the vile enemy, but have discovered their fortitude at the last minute and will also be joining the throng.

I reckon we'll see a few more last-minute-ers. A couple of wins recently hasn't hurt, not to mention Rangers' wobbles.
