  1. It has to be club playing up the good bits to try and get him that final place in the Scotland squad....has to be. Wether that's got any validity or not is a different story...

Otherwise literally what would the point be.

As a complete side bar, I gave the game a heavy dinghy yesterday for reasons mainly to do with beer and sun, did Barry Maguire come out at the end for a walkabout?

  2. There's no reason to think the WS board will knock back a perfectly good and viable bid. So I'm pretty relaxed about the situation.

But as a WS member I'd want to see the reasons behind it. There cannot be any assumptions from the WS board on what the WS membership think we as a collective think. So it need to be black and white facts involved here.

This is, imo, Mugabi at Motherwell in a nutshell. Folk are desperate to blame him for every goal he is near. The first one; neither Nicholson nor Miller make an attempt to close down one of the best crossers in the league, and let him whip a ball into a spot that's perfect for either a goal or an own goal off a centre-back.

The second one he's undeniably culpable to an extent, but how is Kelly not cleaning that out?!

Appreciate your arguing the other side here but both of those goals are classic dithering and ball watching Mugabi. A decent defender isn't as slow to react to both those goals as he was.

Our problem has been that every single players in our defensive set up has a deficiency that is fairly easily exploited.

It's the fear most of us have but if we retain the majority of those defenders we will just see another season like this..

  4. I'm fine with the WS board declining to take any offer forward. Much like the Club/Exec board declined to take a number of the early expressions of interest forward too.

However, given we are a stage on from expressions of interest, a fairly detailed stage of the process,  the next Comms on this from the WS needs to be, and I'm sure will be with, a detailed reasoning of whatever way they are going decision wise.

This narrative that Spittal is not trying a leg is something that has ripped my knitting the past month or so.

If you watch him the amount of closing down he does and cajoling his team mates into a press is defo not the MO of someone not interested.

Ok he’s stopped banging in 35 yard screamers but to say he has downed tools because of his PCA is bollocks to anyone with functioning eyes.

I don't think the majority of sensible fans think he's downed tools to be honest otherwise we'd hear it big time on match days en masse. He's definitely not playing to the levels he was and it's kind of conincided with the Hearts announcement/leak. Which is a wee bit unfortunate but he's still very very important for us.

Blaney or Casey-tbc leader of men-SOD or McGinn should be fine if we also have a real goalie behind them.

It then also offers cover at rwb so we could probably do without a specialist back-up there to a new first choice.

I think that would be fine too tbh. But I wouldn't be planning for it.

Hard balance of course for Kettlewell to let people go without knowing who's coming in etc.

Would be delighted with Rooney if true

  7. SOD and McGinn, if we keep them should not be first choice centre backs. They are really experience agreed but I just don't think they are first choice in any position for me.nso then it comes down to wages I guess.

They have done arguably more than ok this season in there but if we are going to improve defensively it cant be one of them as a first choice.

I keep harking on about it but for me it's one or the other as our utility defender basically. Carrying two seem a bit silly unless we are struggling to recruit.

His style of keeping is a line dweller, he’s never going to be Sieb Dykstra . Our problem in defence all season is making decisive first contact on the ball when crosses come in. I think we could bring in a very dominant centre half and Kelly would be fine behind him but if we don’t or can’t get that sort of player then we do need a keeper with more physicality as the blend at the moment is all wrong.

    Nailed it for me

I reckon even if Kelly spoke to his defenders we'd be a few points better off. That's speculation on my part of course but I dunno how many centre halves I've heard say "my best period when I was at my best was when *Insert goalie* was behind me talking me

    100%.

Kelly at the start was a big shouter/pointer and definitely better with cross balls. Seems to have either been coached out of him or has had a mega mega loss in confidence. Or both.

I don't think you can claim Motherwell haven't been talking Bair up.

Yeah I was half way typing the same thing.

I think what does happen is talking up gets more traction when you play with a bigger team and that happens up all the 'levels' of teams. Add in he's done it for a bit longer at Aberdeen and he's got longer on his contract and hey presto.

We've just signed Moses on a 1.5 year deal from a league that runs in a different cycle than us, I'd be absolutely astonished if he wasn't with us next season.

I think he's looked okay in the limited games he's had, took his goal well at Dundee, should have had an assist against Hibs (Oli Shaw chance). He's only played 51 minutes for us, let's see what he can bring after a full pre-season I'd say.

Aye, I think he's looked ok coming on too. I still think the Kettlewell mutualling knife will hit someone we are surprised at and I think it might be him.

I'd keep him about the place too.

  12. I'm sure we will do this to death but I think the reality of what will happen (not what I'd choose though - is) the below. Not including all the loans who will go back.

Leave for better deals (be that we give them a low offer making them leave, or they can get a better deal)

    Kelly, Mugabi, Spittal

    Released

Butcher, Maguire, Obika, Oxborough , Elliot

    Retained

    SOD, McGinn, Slattery, Nicholson

    Mutual/Kettlewell magic

    Tierney, Moses

Shopping list could be cut in different ways but new players across the pitch.
