Do you think Rangers would be happy if the potentially title-deciding Old Firm game was moved a day closer to their Europa League semi-final second leg?

Probably not, but then what Rangers feel isn't really my concern.

I guess that's where I'm coming from really in all this. I just don't really care that much to be perfectly honest if it moves or not and I can't really be arsed with all the angst around it just because it's Rangers/one of the OF.

Saturday noon kick off better than Sunday noon kick off as well in my opinion as it gives us our normal weekly schedule too ahead of Dundee Utd the following week.

An absolute myth, this, isn't it? Leipzig are playing more games than Rangers are in the coming weeks.

Not strictly true. They might have more games but the Bundesliga is helping out.

Bundesliga have already moved planned fixtures games for their clubs involved in the UEL semi finals but they've done it after the first leg game to help them space put recovery  - Leipzig and Leverkusen play the Monday night rather than Sunday.

I'm rather meh about it...I appreciate there's reasons for it but Scotland must be the only country which takes such great delight in refusing to help a side that suddenly does well in Europe.

I expect/hope our response will be 'what's it worth to you?' and trust the guys negotiating to weigh up the offer against any perceived advantage of sticking to the agreed date.

Aye, that's where I am to be perfectly honest.

Every goal gets checked. It's just that sometimes (the majority of goals) it happens so fast in the immediate celebrations it's not noticed.

That's perfect then if it's checked every time and is so quick it's not noticed. That's the VAR I want most of the time and I can live with some extended periods where a wait is needed to get it 100% right.

Every single goal that occurs in a match where VAR is used, gets checked by VAR. Thats a fact.

From the official website of the International Football Association Board - the guardians of the laws of the game:

Maybe the rules, but not how it is always applied. Been plenty of TV games where they think a VAR check is being made after a goal and it's not.

That's not correct I'm afraid (I added extra to my post as you were typing), and is exactly why detailed information of what we're being asked for our opinion on, should be provided (to both the clubs and the fans whose opinions are being sought.)

We copy England all the time.

I have no doubt we will do the same again and follow what they matured their VAR usage into which was from being overly officious in the first season,  to not so much. It's also still a new and maturing system. It will continue to change - like the laws of the game constantly do.

The thing that annoys me most about it (and something a lot of people don't realise), is that with VAR, it's not a case of "there might have been an offside there....let's check it". Every single goal gets checked. Every single one. If someone scores within 2 seconds directly from kick-off and no-one's even moved yet, it still gets a VAR check. Every penalty? VAR check. Every Freekick that someone spectacularly hits top bins and makes you want to dive about like a madman? VAR Check. Lovely, flowing passing move cutting the defence apart and a nice finish? VAR Check. That's just sucking the life out of a game that's already frequently boring as f**k in this country.

That's not correct. As you don't know how Scotland I'll implement it. It's implemented differently to varying degrees everywhere it's used.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not a VAR evangelist, but I think it's better to have it than not to get corre t decisions Vs it evens itself out. I suppose that's where the split in opinion comes.

  7. I'm just very split on the whole thing in the 'battle for 4th'. No pun intended.

Dundee Utd are no great shakes

    We are no great shakes

Ross co are also no great shakes. I maintain the fact they have won their last few games due to a penalty masks this good form everyone is crowing about.

So, I'm going positive and think there's no reason we can't go and do what we need to do. Meanwhile all 3 of us will get beat playing old firm and Hearts.

  8. Dundee Utd have won 2 league games in the last 10. We shouldn't think we can't go up there and beat them.

Ross County have been on some run recently, granted. However they've had some rub of the green. The last 3 wins coming via 1-0 wins and all penalties. Even the January win against us involved a penalty and an OG. We shouldn't think we can't go up there and beat them either.

I say we finish 4th and then go on holiday.

Lamie being very diplomatic in his choice of words, but he's basically outlined the story of half our squad - I want to be playing games, I was playing well then was dropped.

I don't think many can blame him for wanting a move. We can only hope players like Slattery and Woolery aren't thinking along those lines too.

Aye, would be interesting to see how the club/manager sold the plans to the new players. Woolery and Slattery could be very well aware that the manager intended to play a squad game and rotate things. Whereas the players inherited by Alexander who have jumped ship (Watt, Maldini, O'Hara) perhaps have different expectations. Which is fair enough.

Board - Publically looking for 10th or better, privately with summer transfer dealings expecting 6th or better......... target and contentment achieved even if they've hated watching it at times too.

Speaking to a board member recently (prior to the last couple if games taking place yesterday) this is pretty much spot on BUT they are well aware of the fans views on the style of play at times. They are of course fans themselves too but with a different hat on it times. Results since turn of the year, style of play has been discussed and although the line was 'we are not a sacking club' it was also said everyone is under constant review.

  11. There's as much overthinking going on on fan forums over this international break as there is in GA's heed for team selections

In my mind there's no silver bullet. It's a bit of everything really...bit of tactics, bit of team selection, bit of luck/lack of, bit of poor man management, bit of stubbornness, bit of players chucking in horror individual errors too, bit of injury, bit of Covid....bit of a rubbish season.

  12. Alexander is getting, quite rightly, bodied about for the way we setup and not getting a settled squad.

But to be honest, some of the players do have to take a look at themslves as some of the individual mistakes we've seen have been absolutely horrendous and nothing to do with the setup or formation.

Is a lovely big combination of everything going pretty badly - from soft and shite individual defending, to not scoring goals, to not setting up the right way, to not changing things mid game quick enough, to not having a settled team or settled partnerships.

    What a lot of fun.

It will be a failure if we miss out on top 6. But at the start of the season those in charge would probably accept 7th or 8th as being no major disaster. Alexander will go at some point, but only if results don’t improve and we go into next season starting as we have and are finishing this one. Assuming we are still in the top flight that is !

    I think that's accurate.

I'd expect that the board, not just CEO, the whole board, to be well aware that targets and measure of success have to change as a season unfolds.  Just because we gave the management team a target of make it to a quarter final(s) and keep us safe this year, with a stretch target of top 6, that this season is deemed a 'boxes all ticked' exercise if we end up bottom 6.

Where we sat at the end of 2021 should have meant that by now we are comfortably top 6 and pushing for European spots.

The reason he won't be sacked is we can still technically finish 4th and get a European spot. For now.

If we miss out on Top Six then he'll have to produce some fucking turnaround in the post-split games- i.e at least 9 points and genuinely good performances- for me to not lose faith completely. I don't think he's an idiot or a bad manager but to be on a run of 1 win in 13(I think) and no idea of your best team in March with a squad you've largely assembled just isn't acceptable really. I'd give him until the end of the season but if there's not a big improvement by that point then we're probably starting next season as relegation favourites.

Aye, I'm pretty much on board with this view too to be honest.

If we don't make the Top 6 then it's very likely we've not won in the last 3 games left. If that's the case he gets binned straight away.
