I disagree. He could always play another season whilst managing the 20’s again. And also, if he doesn’t get the job just now, the next manager is likely to only get a 1 year deal after the AJ disaster of a 2 year deal. Also if it doesn’t go to plan we could just be in the exact same situation of looking for another manager this time next year.

Already been said we won’t have a player/manager. He’s also not going to have offers due to his ties with us as mentioned. He’d also be stupid to leave as he’ll have the managers gig (whether that’s now or in a season or two’s time)

I agree, doubt he will have lots of offers for that reason. But if you watch Queens he’s been our best player for the past 2 years, if we had more players like him we wouldn’t have went down to the seaside league. Can only remember one bad game since he’s been back which was Inverness at home against Kai Kennedy.

Think Connelly and Rae will definitely be away. Would be shocked to see O’Conner back next year, whilst I doubt Johnstone will drop down a division for another loan. Out of squad would only be happy with Gibson (as a player), Fitzpatrick, East, McGrory on top of our signed players for next season. I think Fitzpatrick’s injury could actually play to our advantage in terms of signing on for another season, as he never had that many games before his injury where he showed how good he was. Doubt those few games will get him a deal at another Championship club. Think if we resigned those players, on top of the existing players signed for next season, we have the beginnings of a squad capable for challenging in League One. Would love to see Gav Reilly back, but think he’ll end up at Morton permanently.

What is the obsession for VAR I honestly don’t get it? It’s run by a referee who gives his opinion (therefore subjective) which doesn’t get every decision right? From watching it elsewhere, how can anyone actually favour its introduction. Never seen one club consult their supporters on their vote which is also a disgrace. The enjoyment for the match going fan is going to significantly diminish. Every goal you’ll now celebrate half heartedly with the thought of it going to get ruled out for being a millimetre offside. For example, the McTominay goal against Isreal I only half celebrated as I was expecting some idiot monitoring VAR to completely over analyse it and try to rule it out.

Does anyone know what we voted in the VAR Vote? As one Championship club voted no.

Also I’m sure you might have said the same if for example we hired Dougie Imrie a few months ago, ie someone unproven and their first gig as a manager, and look how well that has turned out so far.

Hahaha I know bit of an out the box shout. But always liked the way he speaks and he has had coaching experience and previously said he wants to be a manager. I would rather we tried to be ambitious and take a risk rather than go for the easy option (Gibson). That’s nothing against him, I think he will be our manager one day, but no need to rush him in my opinion.

My preference would be to get another manager in and keep Gibson as a player/coach for another year. I think the argument that there is “no one out there” is a bit of a lazy one to make. There is no reason we shouldn’t be able to pinch a “smaller” clubs manager, or to try and entice a manager out of work. I know Stewart Petrie is from Dundee but wonder if he’d be willing to relocate if given the chance. Other managers out of work such as Neil McCann or Jim McIntyre could be appealing for league 1, if they want to come obviously. I’ve said before I’d love for James McFadden as manager, but again, unsure if he’d be willing to give up the punditry for our gig full time.

Actually think we should try keep some of this squad together for next year - Todd, Paton, MacKay, East, McKennie, Fitzpatrick, Gibson, Cochrane, McGrory. Out of all the loan players I’d only be happy to keep O’Connor, but he’s out of contract and will surely get better offers from elsewhere. Think it’s inevitable that Rae and Connelly will get offers from Championship clubs as well. Sounds stupid to say but don’t think we are actually that far away. We obviously need to improve in both boxes, an experienced centre half to play beside East and a proven goal scorer and we wouldn’t be far away away. Who knows if this is being overly optimistic. With Gibson in charge, hopefully enough of the players are happy to play under him again next year.

Sorry, but what absolute nonsense. History will look very favourably for AJ and his first stint at Queens. Having Reilly, Clark, Holt, McShane and Durnan etc all coming through the team at the same time, any manager should have been able to win us the league that year, especially because of the level of opposition at the time in the league. Yes, the cup final was a good day, but why get sentimental to a guy over a Challenge Cup win 9 years ago? It’s also not a coincidence that any club AJ has been at since us has been a disaster, ask any Dunfermline or Kilmarnock fan. And as for the second stint in charge, we had Dobbie and Dykes upfront playing against Montrose, hardly a managerial master class which kept us up in the play offs that year. Also for your point about him being a “decent guy”, I’m not too sure what’s given you that impression. Always came across arrogant and rude in post match interviews. Football in the last two years had been gruelling under him, with his constant negativity, so I don’t think it’s disrespectful that fans are buzzing he’s now away. So, wonder what sort of person that makes me then!
