I doubt ATS will start, in fact I don't believe he will start another game this season unless we're decimated by injuries and/or suspensions. Got a feeling he will give Byrd a chance at centre back before him, but not this Saturday.

Yeah pretty sure he's doing some coaching behind the scenes so i think that's more his role in the team. I would would love byrd to get a chance, apparently he's really impressed in training.

Hows this for a setup to sort the Defensive side

                                                                                           Rae

                          Watson               McCabe                                         Fordyce             ATS

Ballantyne           Telfer                                             Frizz                    Smith / Euan

                                                 McGill                                          Gallagher

Allows            Smith/Euan , Mccabe & Ballantyne to move forward in attack & track back help in defense, leaving Gal & Mcgill free to counter

Also facilitates Mcgregor to come in last 20 for Mcgill / Ballantyne who will tire & stanway to replace Telfer / Frizz if required

    Craig Levein is that you?

In defence of the club….. Falkirk announced a £1.2 million loss last year, they are on track for a £400k loss this year. Anything like that would kill us and yet that’s who we are stuck in a league with.

Even ignoring that historic spend, the match day revenue at both Falkirk and Dunfermline must be 3/4 times what we make and have a massive impact on playing budgets. Unless their “football program” is a shambles (as Falkirk’s had been for a couple of years), then you’d expect them to beat us over a season. That list of league winning managers that was posted, how many of them won the league again teams that were far better resourced financially? Dick Campbell maybe?

We could all see that we were crying out for a solid centre half and ball winning centre mid ahead of the window, but do we want to gamble with the future of the club when realistically the league was already gone?

The sensible play may well be to hope for a play off miracle this year and invest next year if Dunfermline and Falkirk are replaced by the likes of Arbroath, Hamilton and Cove?

it’s really difficult to watch. Feels unlikely we’ll go up and with Smith, Frizzell etc. likely to be watched by other clubs it might need a rebuild over the summer.

I think the challenge for the club is to work out how we do it without gambling with our existence if we fail. Last year was almost perfect but then a QP team dripping in cash and with Simon Murray finally in form picked our pockets at the last hurdle.

I don’t think that we look like a league 2 side, not many of them Would take the lead in the last 3 games. But our soft centre means this is our level (as squandering those winning positions shows).

The idea that buying the likes of Lachie Byrd and having a youth academy (which isn’t playing at the elite youth level) will get us out of this league I find far fetched, but if the board think it’s the best model given financial constraints then I think we all just need to buckle up and cross our fingers (unless anyone else is sitting on a few million and fancies taking on an unfashionable club).

Yeah wasn't really saying that it would on it's own but just think it's good that we are starting to think a bit more long term because as you say, we can't really compete with other teams budgets in the short term.

    In the last 10 years the managers that have won league 1 are;

    Allan Johnston

    Ian McCall x2

    John McGlynn

    Dick Campbell

    Jim Duffy

    David Martindale

    Paul Hartley

Do you notice anything in particular with the managers I've listed? Majority of them are all experienced managers and have won trophies/promotions previously with other clubs.

Is the management team learning from their mistakes though? I think most of the posters on this thread understood the 6-0 Edinburgh game for an example but time and time again we completely capitulate.

I'm one of McCabe's biggest fans he was my favourite player last season and I backed the appointment 100% but I think everyone one here will admit the appointment was a gamble.

Even with having a model of a youth academy, young players etc and what you see as a better structure, even if you do get to the Championship, there's no guarantee you would stay there, that league is so competitive even teams like Falkirk, Thistle and Dunfermline have been relegated to this league.

Unfortunately I don't have many decent memories being an Airdrie fan, the only one really being the 2004 league title, my focus would be on getting out of this league no matter what, because we've been jobbing it here for over a decade now.

Yeah can't deny the evidence but to be fair it also shows that it can be done with a young manager as it did with allan johnston. I also wanted an experienced manager before McCabe was appointed but now that he's here I'm willing to be patient and give him time.

  5. Today was terrible no doubt about it but I'm glad the club don't share some of the short sightedness on this thread. From writing off young players who have played 2 games as 'lowland league level' to wanting a manager (who admittedly can do a job in the short term), but has been around forever, yet never really sustained success at any club. Wouldn't we rather build foundations to sustain success than be in the same situation 2/3 years later?

I think the club are trying to do this which i get is controversial as it means we may suffer in the short term. Unfortunately, this means that we have players that are not ready right now but may be in seasons to come. Equally we have young coaches that are clearly flawed as they are learning on the job, but as they go and get more experienced i believe they'll improve in all areas, which includes recruitment, game management etc.

The appointment of McCabe at the start of the season coupled with the reintroduction of the academy set up, is clearly an indication of a long term project that which is something that excites me as i don't think we've really had that before (hence the decade of consistent failure in this league).

I completely get how a lot of people just want out of this league asap no matter what, (especially if you are lucky enough to remember much better times) but i have a genuine belief that with this approach we'd have a far better chance of eventually getting out (AND STAYING OUT) of this dreadful league.

I was critical of McCabe, and Fordyce After the defeat to Dunfermline last week,   To be fair they s tood up to be counted this week, with Fordyce  having his best performance of the season so far,   Technically for long spells in yesterday's game we were very good,    Dunfermline for the 2nd week running were hanging on a little,    Dunfermline then bring on McCann and Todorov and what a change to the game dynamics,      We start to hang on and showed some heart for once to stay in the game,    We used no subs until the last 5 minutes when Sal came on,   It is clear that McCabe has no trust in the majority of his bench,,   We signed a few in January does any of them deserve a,starting slot,    Byrd. No chance after his basic errors last week,    McGregor who has pace, but has to show a lot more than that,   McMaster a player rumoured to be signing once his St Mirre n deal is  up,  not showed much at all,  Devenney looked a player earlier in the season looks well off it now,   Bright and Dixon are just there to make up the numbers,    is it poor recruitment again....

We have 2 loanees we can still bring in by the end of the month,  surely if the bench cannot be trusted, we have to try and get a,couple of quality loanees,   is our links to Celtic still as strong as last season,  doesn't seem so,  wonder why......

Personally I think it was just him learning from last week as i would say making so many subs cost us the game. A tight game like that, especially when having to defend so much you just need to trust the men on the park to see it out.

4 points from 6 is exactly what I thought we'd get. Airdrie are a very decent side and with Rae in goals I would've fancied their chances of getting a point next week. Not now

We've played them 12 times since they got relegated and they've only beat us once (mostly hutton in goals for those games as well). We also beat them 4-0 at home earlier this season so i would be very disappointed if we only got a point.

Been here for a month or so ,no getting on about manager but if he not good enough he should not be here,It's the bench or lack off quality on it lets us down every week .

He's only 20, is thought to have a lot of potential and needs time to settle in. Not everyone is brought in to play every game straight away and there is nothing wrong with that.

Draw probably fair on the balance of play. But that’s 2 points dropped. We should have won that.

Once again, Airdrie the better team for the first hour or so. McCann and Todorov completely changed the game and Airdrie couldn’t cope with them.

Once we equalised, we should have gone onto win. Keeper getting sent off should have sealed that. Not sure what the defender was doing trying to play it back like that. Good awareness from Wighton to run into the ball though. Not much keeper could have done, but an obvious second booking. Then Benedictus hits a penalty that’s the ideal height/placement for a keeper. It’s David Hutton, put it in a corner and he can’t get there. He nearly spilled two other harmless shots into his net. Falkirk will cruise to victory next week against him.

That referee was horrendous. Understood the frustration from both benches/sets of fans. Missed glaringly obvious things and gave lots of fouls/throw ins for the wrong team. It’s never a good sign when both benches have coaches carded for abusing him. He looked young/inexperienced. Hopefully he’s not back at this level until he’s ready.

Always been good for us in league 1 and it's his first league appearance this season tbf.

Anyway as we now only have 1 fit keeper i believe we are eligible for an emergency loan so we'll probably get Murray johnson back in for next week's game.

Don't think enough has been made about the first sub after the sending off. There's a reason Devenny has hardly featured this season and that's because he's not good enough. A complete waste of a jersey that was chasing shadows and nothing else despite being our freshest set of legs. Ultimately that comes down to the poor decision making by the manager to day and poor summer recruitment. Not fucking good enough.

    Absolute rubbish.

I assume you weren't at any games at the start of the season because he was one of our best players. Also you say he hardly featured but he has played 21 times in the league and started almost every game until the more experienced telfer came in. Not to mention the fact that he's still only 19.

He wasn't good on Saturday but to completely write him off based on that is just bizarre.

On the keeper’s handball. The crucial moment that I think makes it a booking, is when he looks down, sees it’s gone out the box and scoops it back in with his hand. If he’d let go of it and/or tried to swipe it away with his legs at that point, I don’t think I’d be arguing for a booking.

One thing this thread has proven is that regardless of technology available, there will always be differing opinions in football. I enjoy a lot of the discussions and trying to listen to/see other sides of things.

There are a few things that are pretty certain though. Gavin Duncan is an awful referee. Airdrie deserved their 3 goal lead when they had it. Really good play for their goals and some very slack play/defending from us. I still can’t understand why a winger getting sent off seemed to have such an impact on Airdrie’s defensive performance/mentality though. But there was a clear shift in attitude/momentum from that penalty. Their assistant manager/captain was in their defence and he showed no leadership and actually contributed to the capitulation. Their manager was in midfield, then came out after the game complaining about the midfield not doing their job in the second half. This isn’t the first time they have collapsed like this and I think McCabe/Fordyce need to either focus on playing or coaching/managing.

Because our defensive strategy is to keep attacking.

Alex Henderson has signed for Glentoran. He wasn't as bad as the number of goals he conceded made him out to be but we don't need four keepers so no real loss. I panicked when it mentioned Ally Roy but he seems to be moving to a Championship team, fair play to him for pulling that off.

Would like to have seen him stay instead of lyness but if they've paid money for him then i can't really argue with that.

I'm going to use a phrase I absolutely hate here so general apologies to the thread, but what a bunch of happy clappy bullshit this is.

The signings this season have been rank rotten. Even the two absolute can't miss certs (Rae and Ballantyne) haven't panned out as one hasn't played a league game and one can't stay on the pitch between a truly atrocious disciplinary record and injuries. The rest have been inexperienced wee boys who have done nothing of note and are massive downgrades on last year and two inconsistent haddies from the worst Falkirk team of all time

Do you have any faith at all that our inexperienced manager is going to be backed by our latest unbelievably poor chairman in any real way this window, as I have none.

Shows how we all perceive things differently as i find your comment weirdly pessimistic.

The way you're going on it's like we're relegation candidates.

We're 1 point off the play off places in a much tougher league than last year.

I don't think slight optimism makes you a mindless 'happy clapper'. I find it much more reasonable than the position you've taken.

When Cammy went off I was sitting waiting for ATS to come on. There’s a time and a place to start introducing young players to the first team and this was neither. He looked out his depth and sadly the red card was coming. Surprised he wasn’t booked when the ref gave the first penalty. I think that’s what led to the nonsense between Hutton and their bench. If he had been, he’d have been sent off sooner.  Should have subbed him second half.  Shocking defending all round today. A policy of signing Gow’s academy teens or whoever McNamara throws our way is absolutely not what I pay my season ticket for.

You say "signing Gow's academy teens" like it's another club or something. They are our own academy players who we are promoting which generally can only be a good thing.

Hindsight is great but on the face of it bringing someone on for their debut when we are cruising at 2-0 up isn't the craziest decision ever like some have made it out to be.

McCabe is a young manager who will make mistakes just like young players do and i agree that not taking riley off after his 1st yellow was one of them.

Call me deluded but if we made a decent signing in defence and rae back in the team i would still be optimistic for the rest of the season.

Is there any particular reason behind this one? She will be a big miss, few folk are cracking up on the Facebook page as apparently there was a shoddy reason for the sensory room being shut down too.

Was the sensory room actually being used?

Can see why people would be annoyed if it was but i was under the impression that we just got rid of it because nobody used it.
