Why McMaster was atrocious? Yes he was not played in his normal position, but as a young player he'll need to do more than f**k about in front of the back 4 playing sideways.
And just to be clear, McCabe probably had his worst game in a Airdrie shirt.
Don’t think he was atrocious at all, he is a better player than McCabe simple as that. Yes McCabe is good on the ball but he slows the game down and is as good as a man down off the ball.
McMaster has been one of our best players so far this season and even though he didn’t have a good game yesterday McCabe was objectively worse.

Just accepted that we will never win at gayfield. There is no style of football that will have you winning every game and Arbroath’s style is always going to be very effective against ours. We’ve honestly more chance of giving united a pumping at tannadice.
However, I still believe in the way we play as I think it suits us and we are a much different prospect at home.
Also thought the line up we started with was quite strange. I may be in the minority but I’d start Hancock at left back everyday and put ballantyne at right back ahead of Watson. Also think that’s one of our weakest midfield combinations imo.
Far from a disaster in the grand scheme of things but probably the worst I’ve seen us play under McCabe. Can’t remember us having 0 shots on target in a game in years.

Not going to lie when McMaster went off instead of McCabe I resigned myself to the defeat

I think a lot of Airdrie fans think we really should be winning this one mostly because basically all pre season predictions had us as the bottom 2 but having seen us and Arbroath this season, I actually think we’ll both be fine. Been impressed with Arbroath’s summer signings as from the outside looking in it seemed like the recruitment was what put them in trouble last year.
I’d bite your hand off for a draw but I think it’ll be a good game between 2 teams I believe won’t be miles off top 4 this season.
Hot take I know

The name of the game now now seems to Pass, Possession , Plaudits. , I always thought it was winning that mattered nothing else..
Winning does matter, that’s why we play the same way we did when we WON promotion, WON every game in the cup and WON our last 2 home games.
Makes perfect sense to me.

You spelt Calum Gallagher wrong.
Honestly would rather no first team players involved on Saturday, couldn’t care less about this cup

I was thinking just how negative a game would be between Airdrie and Dunfermline. One constantly passing the ball side to side in their own half whilst the other refuses to send anyone forward to put any sort of press on. The mega anschluss.
Interesting that you view Airdrie’s style of play as negative for trying to build from the back and not the home team camped in their own half for most of the game

Btw how are the advertising boards allowed to be so close to the pitch? McMaster injured by them and mcgregor was lucky he managed to jump over it last second. Looks like you’d get a good few injuries from them a season based off today, or are we just unlucky?

Who was Airdrie’s number 12, good wee player. Like others said it was a strange game. Airdrie played very well but they created very little.
Liam McStravick, signed him from linfield. That was his debut today

This is what this thread has been about for weeks, lack of cover in a threadbare squad, we are either having to play players totally out of position or young laddies who will be recovering mentally from their 7 nil mauling in the reserves on Tuesday forced to man up and take on the League favourites in their own backyard..... hardly ideal, we haven't been negative all close season just realistic and to be honest 3 players out is nothing, teams have to cope and compete with a lot worse injury situation than that..
Well 3 players out who all play the exact same position is pretty unheard of.
I’m not sure there’s a team in the league that wouldn’t be struggling with 3 starting centre midfielders out.

as Rhys always says 'High risk, High Reward' that's not true with signings to date is it..
I would say yes, fair enough if you think of that statement in a financial sense but I never took it that way.
I would say the high risk is signing unproven youngsters and the reward is then turning out like devenny, McMaster etc.

Yes to an extent you are correct, this thread is lively these days., Devenneys stock Rose dramatically without kicking a ball this season, got his move and wish him well. . McMaster could well be the same, behind him ?? I will rephrase it for you can you survive this season in the championship with kids.... I suspect your answer will be a resounding YES, as you expect i would disagree with your proposed response..
Do you think we are getting relegated with our current squad?

What is the remit now, only signing players that are better than what we have and doesn't want to sign anybody just to fill the bench....
or the exact opposite signing players who are clearly not good enough at the moment and are there to fill the bench....
Can anybody confirm our squad and signing remit.... Rhys seems to be saying one thing then doing the other..
Players who fit the squad.
Not wanting players that are just there to make the numbers up doesn’t mean they have to be ready straight away.
Nobody has been brought in to fill the bench then leave at the end of the season.

Ayr and Arbroath tried that and it suited us, Dunfermline sat in and it frustrated us big time.
It probably does suit yous just like it suited Ross county but we very nearly outscored them. Also sitting in doesn’t suit us at all so would be shocked if we set up any other way.

Don’t know if United fans think we’ll be sitting behind the ball and be tough to break down but it’ll be the exact opposite. Think this one is more likely to finish 5-4 than 1-0.

I honestly don't think anyone is saying that. We absolutely had/have players that cut it at this level, pretty certain most if not all teams in the league would take Frizz/Cammy/Josh etc
What we absolutely have not done is sign Championship quality players. Our transfer business has been really poor considering the jump in level.
Yeah I get that, I guess I just don’t really agree that we need that much more than we have

A lot of people saying that we don’t have any championship quality players, couldn’t disagree more tbh.
Just because the players were in league 1 last season doesn’t mean they aren’t championship quality, I actually think most of them are.
Call me deluded but with the way we’ve been playing I’m not worried about relegation even with our current squad.
Having said that I can’t deny that it would be nice to see a Connor smith or wotherspoon in the door.
