The worry is how few chances we are creating. McStravick looks like a Dylan Easton type player and was effective in and around the box and Telfer was making things happen going forward and he is good at breaking things up when needed. A few hard 50/50s yesterday where he came away with the ball and he has improved the team when he has come on in the last couple of games. These are the players we need on the pitch and not the ones who work hard but have poor games.

I still think Gabby can take a touch and score but he's not getting into those kind of positions with the way we are playing.

I'd like to see us play a midfield four of Frizz-Aiken-Telfer-McStravick with a combination of two from Gal, Gabby and Todorov up front. McGregor can come on as an impact sub when required and if we need to shore up the defence bring on McMaster. With the way it went yesterday the back 4 passing sideways waiting for something to open up in front that midfield 4 have the ability to make runs, flick ons, one twos and through balls to the runner and that is how to create space and get the ball in the box.

I think completely changing the system after our first loss at home might be a slight overreaction.

That being said I wouldn’t mind mcstravick starting over McGill next game.

It did happen. The club have dealt with the matter internally and he served his automatic suspension in respect of the red card, although it may be the case that a disciplinary committee at Hampden look further into the nature of the offence due to the language used.

From what I gather the laddie was absolutely distraught immediately after the match for what was a throwaway comment which he accepts was entirely inappropriate and has put his hands up and apologised. He's a young boy and while there is no place for language such as that used I don't see any need to hang him out to dry for it. Some of us courtesy of education and upbringing know the sort of language that should never be used, while others perhaps need a bit of help to understand that. I'm not saying that this is necessarily the case here but let's not jump to the stage of offering the boy up as some kind of sacrificial lamb given we don't really know him. Hopefully he's learned from this.

Yeah I think to suggest his contract should be terminated over this is wild. He’s a young boy that made a mistake. He’ll be under no illusions now that it’s not acceptable and he’ll learn from it.

There's always been a bit of a feeling of stubbornness in Imrie in attachment to some players or dislike of others, and understandably not many people gave a shit when we were doing well, but now it's coming to the fore with the guy who scored yesterday being one of our youth products who he punted at the first possible opportunity, which really doesn't help matters. Even if it's still questionable whether McGregor is definitely going to turn out to be good enough for the Championship in the long run, what he certainly already is at 19 is a much better player than Steven Boyd or Jack Bearne

Heard from someone at Morton that he was getting a really hard time from others behind the scenes when he was there. Not sure how true that is or how bad it was but it would explain him leaving as from the outside looking in he would at least have been a useful member of the squad.

A winger hugging the touchline is a waste of a jersey unless their play is actually leading to chances and goals. If our moves break down trying to find them or when they run the ball out how effective is their contribution?

The goal was not created by the wingers it was created by good passing and movement, and giving the ball to Gal in the box to finish.

That first sentence I have highlighted just shows a complete lack of understanding of the game. Do you think the manager hasn’t thought of this? Do you remember when we played with a diamond in midfield and 2 up front last season? I do and it simply didn’t work. Even if you don’t think the wingers contribute enough (which is insane considering gabby’s stats last season) you need them there so that the opposition are wary of the danger. Otherwise you just become so easy to read that you don’t create anything.

Also you think that gaping hole in the middle of their defence happens if we have every player in the middle? Come on man

Gabby has a football brain and his give and go with Frizz then his pass to Gal made that goal. If either of our "wingers" had been running through on goal they would have had a shot and the ball would have been blocked by the legs of a defender or hit the linesman.

Gabby is wasted on the outside and anyone who says Gabby and Gal can't play through the middle together just needs to watch the goal. Bring McStravick in for McGregor and play the way we did to score the goal. The obsession with getting it out wide to a winger is not working when we try it. The midfield and fullbacks are mobile enough to get into those wide areas but when they do they have the ability to play triangles in the tight spaces and actually get the ball to Gal in the box to score. They see the pass and not just the useless shot at goal when they have a defender blocking the shot.

Not sure how you can watch that goal and come away with the conclusion that there is something wrong with the way we are set up.

do you really think we would have that space in the middle without wingers to drag defenders away?

Pleased with that, reads like a good bit of business anyway. More depth at right-back and centre-half was what we needed most IMO. A bit of pace in the defence would be grand and if he could potentially solve some of our problems out wide too then even better. It doesn’t necessarily mean anything given the step up but encouraging to hear that he performed well for Kelty last season, and first team football isn’t completely alien to him. Presumably he’ll be straight into the team on Saturday.

I see tickets are on sale for the away team but still no clarity about where we will be put. Anyone ITK at Airdrie?

Edit to add: hopefully we are across the park. Much better atmosphere when you can actually see the other set of fans!

I’d be surprised if you’re not in the opposite end. Yous will take a decent support and also our support has increased this season so would make sense.

Hopefully we fulfilled our annual freak result quota last Saturday as I cannot take another drubbing.

Raith are considerably better than Arbroath and as we know Smith, Easton and McGill can run riot when they want so we need to be right on it.

In saying that, we can also be considerably better than what Saturday showed and it only takes a quick goal for us to get our tails up.

McStravick is a big miss as he has shown glimpses of magic. I’d play the following team:

                               Rae

    Ballantyne, Fordyce, Hancock, Watson

               Frizzell McMaster Aiken

              Mcgill Todorov Gallagher

Agree with this team except I don’t think Gallagher and todorov in a front 3 can work really so I’d have mcgregor on the left as that role requires someone with pace. I know he can be very hot and cold (as is normal for teenagers) but O’Connor so far is just cold so mcgregor all day for me.

Wouldn’t mind seeing mcstravick there in the future but as he’s suspended I’m happy with McGregor as when he’s on it he can be a nightmare to play against.
