No need for the sarcasm, I wasn't being snide, just agreeing with another poster's valid, but apparently erroneous comment.

I have a bit of experience with people who have learning difficulties and how to keep them occupied (at football matches or elsewhere).

Aye if you have experience of dealing with learning difficulties then maybe stop randomly throwing that phrase around at anyone and everyone when you've no idea of circumstances.

  2. Away from the subject of flags and onto the game/season, I'd say that over the piece we've done very well and probably better than could have been anticipated at the start of the season under our rookie management team. Especially so when it became clear that there wasn't anyone else coming in to provide experience/assistance to them. That may well have been the decision of McCabe and Fordyce though.

McCabe has clearly been on a steep learning curve throughout the season and there have been times when the support has questioned the wisdom of him being on the pitch while trying to manage, especially when things weren't going as well. The hammering at home to Edinburgh and his post match statement of not wanting to change style despite being down to 10 men for the majority of the match caused some consternation as it seemed unnecessarily headstrong and showing lack of willingness to make necessary changes. I think we saw during the 1st leg v Falkirk that he was capable of considering alternative strategy when again down to 10 men.

He has a favoured style of football which is pleasing on the eye and is one which fans are willing to get behind and hopefully we can make necessary additions to the squad to allow him to continue to play this way in the championship while getting results.

Yesterday we got the end result we needed however at the time I was questioning the decision not to make changes earlier. Telfer  had a very good first 45 but seemed to tire quickly in the second and I'd have liked that change sooner and possibly Stanway on earlier too.

At the end of the day we got the result we needed though so that's all that matters and now we await the list of who stays and who goes.

I personally don’t like them and I’m obviously not alone in that as an Airdrie fan, but it’s a bit of an awkward one because there’s obviously nothing actually wrong with the flags. There are others that like them and like having it as part of the club’s identity, and others that don’t really care and aren’t bothered much about it either way. It probably works out that those that like that aspect are the loudest section of the support, and they’re brilliant for loudly getting behind the team as they did last night - of course them being the loudest means our fanbase gets the reputation of all being that way. The majority of fans are either like myself, don’t like them but accept them as it’s an unchangeable aspect of our support, or just aren’t bothered about them at all.

There’s a lot of fans that support the SNP and independence (including an SNP MP) that are just a less vocal section of the crowd. I’m not an SNP supporter personally and not particularly passionate about independence but I’m a socialist that’s very wary of British nationalism.

Hopefully that clears it up a bit. I’d say it’s very much a mixed fanbase but that one side of it is more vocal which means they play a bigger role in shaping the reputation of the club with others.

Obviously the union flags do stand out a bit however I'd say yesterday and at many other games they were outnumbered by other flags. There were three traditional union flags that I saw and the rest were either red/white saltire style, one or 2 of a union flag style but in red and white and the remainder were ones with the club badge and those of other associated clubs or other logo and slogans.

Personally I fucking hate the union flag but it's a game of fitba and if folks want to cheer the team behind one of them then so be it, it's creating atmosphere which is what we want so long as there are no far right antics going with it. I will say that these things are indicative of the individuals concerned and not of the majority of the support.

Bloody hell two Hamilton players have got their feet Stuck in the pitch nearly breaking their ankles.
Palmerston has always been awful. If was even ripped up after a season and relaid it was so bad

Don't think that there have been any injuries to players this season which have been attributable to the pitch and haven't heard any complaints from opposition teams about it.

Dycey at right back and McCabe at centre half for me with McMaster coming in for the second leg. No offence to Euan Deveney or Lachie Byrd but they haven’t played enough to come in for a game of this magnitude.

Could obviously go for ATS at left back with Ballantyne coming over to the right but I’m not sure he’s got the legs to play there anymore and defend against a winger.

Absolutely no danger you move Dycey to right back and have him going against Smith. He'd be sent off within 15 minutes.

I felt Rankin gave Airdrie the initiative by moving to one man  up front start of the second half as it allowed the ball to move quickly against us.

Subs were a bit meh and if you are going to bring Tiehi on,you give him more time and put balls in the box for him.

As for Airdrie, they should be looking for the first goal Saturday as our powder puff strikers won't score 3.

However,if we score first  I would be very confident of getting the job done.

All to play for and  a big,big performance needed for sure.

I thought that they had one up from the start as it looked very much like a 4 - 2 - 3 - 1 certainly when they weren't in possession of the ball.

On your last sentence, being likeable, and more known can also help? In that instance Gallagher will be far more known to allot of the league one sides than many of the Dunfermline ones.

It should have been Bene, but I'm sure he'll be content with the league winner medal, Gallagher has had a fine season and scored the goal of the season.

If it's any consolation the League 1 POTY for 2023 voted for Benedictus.

Magnificent from Gal! He's been phenomenal with goals and assists this season. I'd imagine the Dunfermline lads might feel a bit aggrieved with some cause, but on another positive note I hope wee Paton is raging 😂

They can feel as aggrieved as they want but this was voted on by his fellow pros so it's not like some random committee or a fans vote where the team with the biggest support vote for their player. The other pros in League 1 thought Gal was the PotY and that comes down to him being, in their eyes, the best player (and not an absolute dick like Paton)

Is that love always totally unconditional though?

Is there not meant to be anything reciprocal in this relationship?

It is a relationship, an abusive relationship with the fan in the role of the downtrodden and wronged spouse. It will always be thus.

There was well over 4000 at yesterday’s game that’s a brilliant attendance for any club outwith the premier league.  I don’t know how many away supporters were there

Falkirk, as far as I was aware, were usually pretty decent at releasing attendances and number of away fans but I've not seen anything this time. One of the staff at the ground told me they had been advised to expect up to 1500 away fans which at the time I was dismissive of but there was a decent number in the stand by kick off although hard to tell when your sitting in it.

Jamieson has already been confirmed as leaving Kelty

The Rae extension for surgery thing was posted on here an ITK thing. As far as I know neither party has confirmed it.

Thanks on both points. I certainly posted on here about it before but it wasn't an itk thing it was based upon my memory of seeing either the player or club mention it. Maybe someone else was itk and that's what I've seen.

This is going to be a horrible, nervy two legs isn't it?

We're all thinking that and we thought the same going into Tuesday and look how that turned out. Didn't stop us all from still having concerns prior to the second leg yesterday so I see no reason why we won't all be bags of nerves regardless of how things pan out at home.

  11. Listening back to Rhys post match interview from yesterday.  Saying that he'd been in touch with Jamieson a few weeks back to discuss his contract situation. Looks like he was wanting to bring him in for next season although I've no clue if he has a deal at Kelty which takes him beyond this season past anyway. I was certain I'd seen a post from either the club or from Josh Rae earlier this season about him extending his deal for another year due to the club paying for his surgery but I'm buggered if I can find it now. Can only think that Rhys now fancies the idea of having a good quality challenger/backup for Josh going into the new season.

Just watched the highlights and the defending for the Airdrie goal is calamitous to say the least with Coll Donaldson to blame, there is no need for him to go for the ball as McKay had it covered.

1 hour ago, Blame Me said:

    The exact opposite I'm afraid.

McKay was under the ball and is falling away from it with his jump but ignoring that Coll clearly shouted when the cross came in that he was going to head it - it was clear as day in the KM stand.

McKay didn't have to jump - he caused the collision and is the one squarely to blame.

Run it back and the throw-in comes from McKay initially doing his usual of shanking a clearance!

Watched the highlights and no clue which defender is which but one is running backwards towards where the ball is dropping. He should be getting the shout from the defender who is clearly attacking the ball. @Blame Mesays that the shout was audible in the stand, so unless the shout came from the defender backing in to the ball, then there is only one culprit.

I really hope that we can make it past Accies and win a play off for once because as I keep telling myself every close season, surely Falkirk will pull themselves together and no longer be the guaranteed points that they have been in recent years.

FWIW I reckon that given he's under contract your man McGlynn will definitely start the season and dependent upon results if not going well may get his jotters by November/December to give a new manager a window to use.

Airdrie have a guy who scored on Tuesday and has looked ok in two games this week that was a donkey with us.

    ATS?

It's amazing how coming into a well managed side where players are adequately coached and all know exactly what their role is can make players look okay. Even, and I say this grudgingly, Telfer has had some reasonable performances this season.

Conversely, and equally amazingly, reasonable players at other clubs arrive at Falkirk where they immediately become utterly abysmal.

No meltdown at all. Legitimate point IMO, and I’d feel the same about my own team and any others.

As I pointed out, it really had no bearing on the this tie but in a closer game I think teams would right feel aggrieved.

The rules are in place for all clubs and we took advantage of it. To be honest I think the only reason it was okayed was because Hamilton had to get a keeper in on loan for their games against Alloa and had they not, our request may not have been viewed so kindly. I was joking about this a few days ago on another thread when I'd suggested that we get Mehmet from the Pars (apparently he's away on holiday) and that would have made an absolute mockery of the system that we could potentially bring in the keeper from the league winners who had more clean sheets than anyone else.

Hoping we had Hamilton watched today, think Rhys needs to get his tactics right on this one

Rhys is very friendly with Brian Rice so I'm sure he'll be getting loads of intell from him.

Re the goalkeeper loan and the Falkirk fans meltdown over the unfairness of it all, the only thing which could have made this sweeter would have been loaning the Edinburgh City l keeper who was released by Falkirk last season and was, according to their fans, rotten.

  16. 2 minutes ago, FLDiamond said:

It’s possible the club found it difficult to pull in an emergency loan but I’m surprised we haven’t got a keeper signed up by now.  Hoping the ‘pen’ surfaces tomorrow morning cause it will make me feel a little bit better about this game.  I’m sure Hutts would be fine but preferring someone who isn’t rusty and fully match fit although Rhys did say on the podcast that he keeps very fit and sets a good standard

Don't think there will be any announcement until the teamsheets come out leaving us all going WTF?
