  1. I'm no expert but it sounds like good advice. If I was you I'd do a couple of runs slower than your 10k pace where you gradually increase the distance that you cover. They will really help increase your stamina. You can run everyday if you want but as you increase the distance you will probably end up wanting to take a few rest days.
  2. Well done Reina, it's always tough to get back into running but keep at it and you'll soon get back to the levels you were running a few years back. I think you're right to not not focus on pace just now, as you say time on feet is the most important thing for now. I love my Garmin and think the info I get (heart rate, pace, elevation etc.) really helps me monitor my progress and structure my training. I say buy. When you register with parkrun you can do any of them and I think there are currently 9 in Scotland. I've ran three of them, Pollok, Strathclyde & Eglinton on quite a few occasions. I'm sure you'll like Pollok, it's really well organised, a great route and it's free. What's not to like? As BishyTON says though, leave a little bit for the uphill section or it can be a bit sore. Having said that my PB at Pollok is faster than at Strathclyde or Eglinton. I've not run since the Edinburgh Marathon and don't really intend to for another few weeks. Then I'll start to try and get into shape for an attempt at a sub 1hr 30min time at the Glasgow Half. However I'm way off that kind of shape just now.
  3. I'm the exact same. If I don't run then the weight just piles on. Did you see that they have changed the route of the Glasgow half?
  4. Diamonds2002 - What's prompted you to resume training? Have you got any races planned?
  5. Well done on the PB! Yeah, as usual it was too warm. I did the marathon in 3:47:43 but it was all a bit of a slog from as early on as the 8th mile. Was on pace for a sub 3:45 up until mile 23 but ended up having to run/walk the last 3 miles due to a whole load of different aches, pains and general fuckedupness. Still it was a pb by 12 minutes and I'm delighted with that considering my interrupted training.
  6. Thanks very much for offering BR but I'm not raising cash. I asked people for donations when I ran the marathon last year so didn't want to ask them again.
  7. Due to a variety of injuries, I've only been able to run 8 times since the 3rd of March. The marathon on Sunday is gonna be sore.
  8. If you are looking for a 5k then you should consider http://www.parkrun.org.uk/falkirk/ There are people of all abilities and it's free. On the downside I've heard there's a bit of a hill. Someone else on this thread is a regular at the event.
  9. Couldn't agree more. I just had to defer my entry for the London Marathon until next year due to injury. I don't know if I'll even be fit for Edinburgh.
  10. What other parkruns have you done Jack? How does your time today compare with your times at the other ones you've done? I ran Eglinton parkrun today. It's a nice course but I don't think it's a fast one.
  11. I know people that used to use an iphone app called Runometer (or something like that). But my advice would be get a Garmin with a heart rate monitor. I just got the basic one, I think it cost about £100 and it was worth every penny.
  12. That'll be a dawdle for you if you're already running 17 & 18k in training. What time you aiming for? I'm meant to be doing the Edinburgh marathon but my training isn't going too well due to a calf injury.
  13. That's good going DD. Have you entered a half, if so what one?
  14. Just sign up for parkrun. It's weekly on Saturday mornings, there's one held in Edinburgh and its free.
  15. Thanks Kenzie it was me but I'm not going to enter. I'll probably regret it closer to the time but just now I'm have way through a 16 week training schedule for the London Marathon and tbh I'm a bit sick of running at the moment.
  16. I went to Strathclyde this morning for another attempt to beat my PB. There wasn't much wind but once again the course was altered due to ice. (According to my Garmin todays course was about 5.8k.) My average pace for it was 6.03min miles which would have given me a new PB by about 30 seconds and I'd have gone under 19 minutes. However since the course was so long my time will be around 21.40. I'll try again in a few weeks time and hopefully that will be on the proper course.
  17. The course record for Strathclyde is under 15 minutes. Now that's ridiculous! Ps a year ago my PB was 25 minutes so I think It's possible for most people to take a fair bit off their time.
  18. Apart from that day I've not got close to sub 19min. My parkrun PB's are 19.23 for Strathclyde & 19.22 for Pollok. It's been a couple of months since I've done one though and I've been running a lot of miles so I think I could go sub 19 now. There are people on here that would be far quicker than that though. The one I'm talking about started in the usual place and went over the bridge/weir thing. I suppose it all depends on where the ice is but you are right that they always make it longer to prevent anyone setting a new record on the unofficial course
  19. The same thing happened to me when they altered the course due to ice on the 8th of December. I would have got a PB and gone sub 19min for the 1st time. The course that day was a lot more than 200m longer though, it was more like 400m according to my Garmin.
  20. I was going to go to Strathclyde but I'm glad I didn't bother to get up early then. Glasgow was cancelled because of ice.
  21. There's a program about whisky on BBC1 now. Edit because I couldn't spell BBC
  22. Well done YB on your PB! I ran Strathclyde Parkrun this morning . It was so cold that the loch was frozen and they altered the route to avoid some of the worst areas. It started in the usual place but didn't go as far around the loch, instead you did a shortened out and back twice. The revised course was about 5.4km* which I did in 20:27. I went through 5k in about 18:40 which would have been a massive PB (about 32 secs off). That was meant to be my last Parkrun for a bit but I might have to go back next week to see if I can replicate that kind of time. I hope the park defrosts a bit for anyone running tomorrow because some parts of it were quite slippy. *they have made it longer deliberately so that no one sets a new course record on the altered course.
  23. Well done Neefie, that's impressive running, especially in a x-c. I was invited to a local x-c last weekend. I work with a guy that was helping to organize it and he suggested that its a good way to build strength. Doesn't sound like my idea of fun though.
