  1. It's flatter, almost totally flat but I don't think it's as enjoyable. Its 2.5k around one side of the loch before you double back on yourself and it's fairly exposed so the wind coming off the water can be quite biting. I think most people would be quicker at Strathclyde.
  2. Well done on the PB Fernando! I've started upping the mileage over the last couple of weeks in preparation for starting a 16 week training program for London. Did 33 miles last week, about half of it on a treadmill (I like running on a treadmill apart from the fact that it's too hot in the gym). New PB's at both Strathclyde (19'23") and Pollok (19'44") Parkruns over the past two weeks. Really pleased to have finally gone sub 20 at Pollok.
  3. That looks good but it looks like it's quite hilly. I take it they don't close the roads for 350 runners?? When does registration for next years open?
  4. This thread had slipped to page 3, have people stopped running now the dark nights are here? I think I must have forgotten how much marathons hurt, I signed up to do Edinburgh next year. It's only 5 weeks after London but I'm hoping that'll be long enough to recover. I'm going to do Parkrun this weekend but I'm not sure if I'll do Pollok or Strathclyde. I'll maybe wait to see how windy it is before deciding.
  5. Thanks and well done yourself. I volunteered* at Pollok Parkrun for the 1st time yesterday and I quite enjoyed it. *I didn't really do anything and was just a marshall at a straight bit of road where it was impossible to go anywhere but the right way.
  6. I've just done the BHF 10k in Pollok Park in about 41min. I'm delighted as my last aim for this year was a sub 45 10k. I'm going to take it easy for a few weeks but my main aim for next year is sub 3hr 15min at London. Which sounds way too quick just now.
  7. That's my plan for this weekend only at Pollok. I'm volunteering there because I have a 10k on the Sunday. After that I'm taking a bit of a break. I've been running quite a bit recently and I'm starting to get a few aches and pains.
  8. I had considered entering the Great Edinburgh Run but decided to enter the British Heart Foundation Winter Warmer in Pollok Park next Sunday instead. Quite glad I did now. I ran Strathclyde Parkrun yesterday. On the first Saturday of each month it has a number of pace makers but I don't know how much use they are. I finished in a new PB of 19.33 but was still a fair bit behind the pacer that was meant to finish in 20 minutes.
  9. Training for a marathon takes up so much of your time and focus, that I think it's understandable why you would try to limp to the end. How are your legs feeling today?
  10. Congratulations. Well done on beating your target time!
  11. Injury didn't beat you, you finished it!!
  12. Yeah. 1st time I've ever applied and I was unsure about whether I even wanted to do it. However after an initial panic I'm starting to look forward to it.
  13. I've been successful in the ballot for the London Marathon. f**k!
  14. Thanks. The course at Strathclyde is just about bowling green flat. It's fairly exposed so I think that it might be tougher on windy days. but conditions today were just about perfect.
  15. So you gave me 200m of a head start and still beat me (I came 18th). Absolutely delighted with my run. It was a new PB by about 50 secs and it's the first time I've gone sub 20 minutes. I set off a bit quick. 6 minutes for the 1st mile, 6.26 for the 2nd and then barely made it to the end
  16. I had only done 18 miles (I did that in 2hrs 30.). I would have liked to have done a longer run but my training was interupted by lots of injuries. I did the marathon in 3hrs 59min and I was delighted with that as - 1) my aim was always to do it in Sub 4hrs & 2) Edinburgh was hit by a rare heatwave on the marathon weekend. My splits were fairly even. I found the miles from 15 to 20 the hardest and my time started to slip a little (only by a couple of minutes). But I was able to make that time up over the last quarter. I think that was due partly to the crowds. I'm really glad I did it, but I've no plans to do another just yet. I did apply for a place for London, but I'm not really expecting to be successful in the ballot. Is this your 1st one?
  17. Well done that's a lot further than I ever ran before my marathon. I'm sure you'll have no bother doing another 4 miles on the day. Are you setting off at a similar pace to that run? Have you read anything about carbing up?
  18. I really like mine and I'm glad that I bought it but I've read reviews where people complain about the fact that it doesn't tell you your pace for the overall run. Instead it only tells you your pace for the lap* you're on. *A lap is just a set distance and I think you can set it from anything from half a km to a mile.
  19. Yeah, I have a Garmin Forerunner 110. I think that's the most basic model but I love it. The ability to upload all your runs to the Garmin Connect website and then being able to compare distance, pace, elevation, heart rate, etc is brilliant. My only slight grumble is that it isn't that precise when running twisty routes under trees (i.e. Pollok Parkrun).
  20. You got closer than me. I did 20:52 at Pollok. I'm blaming the hills as well. (I can't believe Falkirk can be worse than Pollok) I noticed that I overtake quite a few people going up the hills only for them all to overtake me on the descent. I think I must be doing it wrong. I'll be at Strathclyde in two weeks to see if I can get any closer to a sub 20 on a flat course.
  21. I've just heard that there is no Strathclyde Parkrun this weekend because of "The Party in the Park". Fecking Boo!
  22. No it wasn't me. I can only dream of going that quick. I think that must have been Kenzie as he was roaring around to his 1hr 25. That's me just recieved notification that the official photos are up. Oh dear
  23. I just messed about with that CSV and based on some rough calculations it looks like only 4 people overtook me in the last quarter whilst I overtook 250. I really have to stop being a shitebag and set off a bit quicker.
  24. Well done BR. I have similar feelings about miles 5 & 8. They were my slowest. I always thought Paisley Rd West was flat but it's actually a slight incline for the whole 5th mile.
  25. I did the half in 1:39:24. My pace started to drift a bit between miles 8 - 10 but my last 3 miles were my quickest. Delighted with my time. My previous PB was 1:50:02. I'm gonna spend the next couple of months trying to get a sub 20 parkrun. Current PB is 20.45. at Strathclyde (20.49 at Pollok). Well done everyone. Kenzie, your time is insane.
