Lawal our best so far, slick and Montrose defenders finding him a handful, Montrose man marking and shutting down far better than us for the first 30 minutes, Mackay to deep and he should be on Samuels shoulder with Lawal in behind them if we are to get anything from the game.

Far too much Alf Ramsay square passing wasting time, better winging balls to Harper and Longstaff.

I'm actually surprised Longstaff got  the start tonight after how ineffective he was against Morton

If there was any doubt about Ferguson being an utter idiot then it’s resolved now

Or you know, we’re just not very good and playing 5 at the back at home helped them?

I kind of get where he is coming from, perhaps he is trying to call them out and motivate them for the run in ?

But ultimately, if we are indeed relegated, it will be down to ourselves and our own results over the season, not if Arbroath " down tools" for the remainder.

Our problems have been a lot closer to home this year, (metaphorically and statistically).

Then there's the twist in that however good the player is the loser tag sticks and a possible move elsewhere results in less favourable financial contracts kick in.

Players now facing that possibility need to give things a good hard think.

No team will willingly sign a player with the relegation/loser tag round his neck.

    Indeed.

Off the top of my head Gilmour and Longstaff have been relegated  with Cove last season?

As much as Gilmour had been one of our more consistent performers, consecutive relegations would certainly not be a good look on any players résumé, although I'm not sure how involved either were for Cove last year if I'm honest, so perhaps I'm being unfair.

The manager himself may be headed for two clubs managed / two relegated - a remarkable achievement....

Has any one else in the modern game achieved this fête so early on in their managerial career ?

Actually we did play like that for the 10 or so games Wotherspoon played for us and the results mirrored that.

    Correct.

I said it at the time that I was worried for us when Wotherspoon left and wasn't in anyway replaced, and so it has proved.

The football has been diabolical since then.

As much as he hasn't been as good as last season, Shaw at least tries to be direct and positive and I believe has been missed the last couple of games.

    We're doomed....

Losing faith in Duncan a bit right now. Still think we have players who can do better, but the tactics aren't working.

The 2 new defenders don't necessarily weaken us at the back. But bring the ball forward a little quicker. That's one positive.

We're still lacking a creative outlet to get in behind defences. Relying on Samuel to just batter through. And neutralising Billy (our biggest goal threat by sitting deeper. He doesn't have the vision to be making the passes to break through defences. Neither does Shaw or long staff.

Just bring in Doran or Macgregor, play the 2 strikers high up, or both.

Not sure about Macalister yet. Didn't seem great. But give him a bit of a chance. People a bit better, can run with the ball and getting into good positions. Looked more likely to score than Samuel by the end

The boy McAllister looked completely lost after coming on I thought , game seemed to completely pass him by.

Not going to write him off by any means, but by the end of the game we were playing like what we are - a team of strangers thrown together.

    Worrying times.

  6. The use of the word "character" seems to be used increasingly these days by coaches and pundits, almost as some sort of unquantifiable trait that some players and teams either do or do not possess.

"My team showed great character today" and such phrases seem meaningless to me, unless this indeed something that can be coached and is expected of players today??

To quote The Wolf - " Just because you are a character, doesn't mean you have character".

Chilokoa-Mullen played in every Euro qualifier for Scotland U21s which is a good pedigree. Savage came through the youth system at Liverpool then played with Dunc's son at Newcastle after signing for them for £250k

I'll be honest I'd never heard of him, but someone I know who works with the Scotland  U21s speaks highly of him so fingers crossed he can bring something to the team.

    Big Dunc is cooking

I really like Udjur I think he's been a great find, but I'd have Devine in there instead of him currently.  He's been pretty steady recently.
