I heard that Liam Cooper is part of the leadership group at Scotland. I haven't been able to confirm that Scotland have a leadership group or that he's part of it, but if he is it's the kind of thing that might be important.

With Souttar he hasn't ever played the Hanley role and the fact that Cooper has just tip the scales more towards him. I don't quite see where Souttar fits into the squad if everyone's fit.

Yeah, everything I have heard or read regarding Cooper seems to point towards him being quite influential within the squad, with the younger players and role modelling etc.

I may have this wrong, but I have a feeling Clarke tends to only use him against higher quality opposition? I'm sure I read somewhere that he hasn't played against a jobber nation since 2021 or something like that.

  2. There is a video on BBC from an interview yesterday with Livramento and they ask him about Scotland/Portugal/England

He doesn't really give anything away other than "his family will support him with whatever decision he makes" suggesting he hasn't made one yet.

He also says (I think) that he'll "cross that bridge when he comes to it". I would be amazed if Scotland hasn't already reached out to him which would suggest the bridge in his mind is Portugal or England.

And that his Scottish mum "would be buzzing if he was called up for England"

Nothing unexpected I guess. Doesnt look likely unless he stagnates as a player and England and Portugal aren't interested.

  3. Calvin Ramsay really struggling at League One Bolton. He can't even get in their match day squad for the last five or six games.

I'm assuming he hasn't come back from injury the same player, some confidence issues or something personal going on to have such a drop off so quickly.

Their manager confirmed other week that he isn't injured, just not selected.

  4. Once the squad is announced, is that it in terms of finality or can we have a standby list and call people up if injuries up to a certain date? Not sure if there is a cut off date or whether there is exceptions (goalkeepers is usually one)

  5. When was the last time Queens had a sustained period at this level or below? I seem to recall a time in the mid to late 90s where we played QoS alot in this same tier. Have you been in bottom tier in the last 30 years?

Basically what I'm asking, if you do go down, will this literally (not objectively) be your lowest league placing in the last 30 or 40 years?

  6. Doak is still injured and has been for a while now, not sure when he is expected back.

It's a shame, because Liverpool have had so many injuries in the last couple of months, I think he would have featured quite a bit for them and had a number of starts had he been fit.

Harvey Barnes interview from a few days ago. Given he's saying his dream is to play for England then I'd say it unlikely he'll be thinking about Scotland just yet.

Ah well thats that then for the time being - Barnes is a no go.

Of course it doesn't officially rule him out or anything but that would be a beyond stupid interview/statement to make if you had discussions with SFA or your agent was giving you a heads up on possibly being called up for Scotland, so safe to say he wont be included.

  8. Aye, whether he is named as a midfielder or a forward, barring injury there is no way Christie doesn't make it to the Euros. Even if he was sent to the Bournemouth reserves and didn't kick a ball for the rest of the season, he would be there.

  9. I think if the Euros squad was announced this week, the four* forwards would be Adams, Dykes, Shankland and Barnes (if he is turned).

If Barnes hasn't had a change in heart, I think Clarke would just go with Adams, Dykes and Shankland and use the space for an extra midfielder or defender.

I dont think McBurnie, Conway etc get a call up. Brown, Nisbet or Stewart might have if not injured.

That being said, Euros squad isn't announced this week and there is still time for one of those fringe strikers to find some sort of form.

*assuming Christie is in as a midfielder rather than Forward

  10. How bad is the Queens squad overall? Do you look at the squad and think "these players should be capable of finishing top four comfortably"

So much doom and gloom from Doonhamers, I'm trying to work out how much is poor recruitment and how much is poor management. I suspect the reality is a bit of both.

Assuming you stay in league one and remain full time, how many of your current squad would you retain, genuinely? There must be at least a handful who are decent players but managed wrongly.

  11. Yeah there was a few things going round at the time of similar nature.

If the above stories are true, I do feel a bit sorry for him. That's shite patter to do to a young lad who is on his first international trip and will presumably be nervous or anxious about fitting in anyway. It should be obvious if someone who is the butt of the joke, isn't really enjoying it and that's when the senior players need to be stepping in, not joining in.

People may say he should be more thick skinned and join in the lads lads lads banter but as someone who was picked on when younger, I can sympathise why he decided to bolt.

    Again.....if its true

  12. We (Stirling) have been fan owned for 14 years now and have barely left the bottom league in that time.

It saved the club at the time as we had a an ageing chairman and alot of debt that had to be written off and nobody interested in taking over the club.

It's the right path to go down if you are bleeding money and need to save the club and get some stability but the trade off is you are unlikely to have much on field success.

If a serious offer to take over the club now from a private investor was on the table and the due diligence was done, I think most Stirling fans would vote for it. Fan ownership saved us, but we need real investment if we are to ever properly grow.

  13. Next few games are massive, I'm not expecting much points wise but if we can grind out 4 points or so from the next four games then I'll be quitely confident we will have enough to avoid playoff spot.

It's also nice to have had a full squad the last few games with some additional signings. That means each game there is two senior players that won't make the match day squad - today was Ewan Wilson and Murray Miller.

Does anyone know who is signed up for next season or is everyone out of contract?

Aye of course I meant of the teams in the running to win leagues

    Cheers for the info.

Are alot of teams working towards licences to get into Highland League or are most not arsed about getting promotion?

I'm assuming floodlights and ground improvements are the stumbling blocks for most tier six in Highlands?
