It was quoted somewhere, possibly at an AGM

genuinely not something that I’ve pulled out my arse. I’ve seen it written somewhere from the club. Obviously it’s not happened yet and perhaps I assumed that this was what they would be relaying when they dug it up in summer 22.

However the pitch is still pish this season and we didn’t have half the issues we did last season and struggle to understand why - despite the fact we barely played on it the whole of January. The pitch last year never looked anywhere near as bad as it does not.

So as a previous poster has suggested there is clearly some kind of cost cutting going on regards to the resources being made available to the ground staff. Much like everything else across the club.

Neither the minutes of the November 2022 AGM, nor the draft minutes of the January 2024 AGM, make any mention whatsoever of a hybrid pitch. You are misremembering.

As explained by others earlier, I strongly suspect that the quality of the surface is a result of the late finish to last season, and that having led to more limited works to revitalise the surface over the summer than is otherwise the norm.

Didn’t we carry out this work in 2022 though? The pitch was completely redone in Summer of 22 once QP left and they definitely said that it was a hybrid pitch.

No they didn't. This is what they said at the end of the 2021-22 season:

"Following our final regulation home league game of the season, Partick Thistle FC can confirm that a full renovation of the pitch at Firhill will take place at the end of the current season, commencing as soon as it fully concludes.

To help accommodate this, we have requested that our two 2022/23 Premier Sports Cup home group matches this summer are scheduled as our final two group fixtures.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank head groundsman Allan Findlay and all his staff for their hard work all season and especially in recent months.

The club can also confirm that there will be no ground-sharing agreement in place with any other club for the 2022/23 season."

Someone needs their jotters for the state of our pitch. We didn't play on it for nearly 5weeks and when i walked into the stadium that day i was astounded at the state of it and it has looked worse every time I've seen it. Supposed to be a 50/50 hybrid pitch, there were absolutely no issues with it last year.

Strong fake news here. The Firhill pitch is not and never has been hybrid.

  4. Special mention for G4S who were total jobbers yesterday.

The biggest health and safety risk at Hampden is not people standing six inches onto the stairwell in a 9/10 empty stadium.

Nor is it allowing David Mitchell or Luke McBeth to go up to the fans and show their appreciation for them.

Yet the “national stadium” apparently can’t even get a stretcher to a player who cannot walk.

What a complete and utter shambles of an operation.

  5. Reasonably happy with that despite not securing the full three points. Defensively much more assured than in recent weeks. Shows Doolan knows how to adapt.

Wasiri really good today and Mitchell confident. Neilson in midfield looked more comfortable which is a positive and better performances from players like Milne.

Think we’ll be fine this season.

I'm not sure how anyone who seen both could have Docherty over 2013-early 2016 Premiership Bannigan never mind any of the other midfield options already mentioned.

The problem is you've got to take Bannigan over the piece. If we're selectively picking out only part of someone's tenure Osman or Barton would be in the team of the quarter century and Keown would have a decent shout.

    O'Donnell - Paterson - Lindsay - Archibald

    Lawless - Erskine - Bannigan - Higginbotham

    Graham - Doolan

My team feels very biased towards the promotion & top flight run of 12/13 to 17/18, with only Shaggy, Archie and Graham not featuring for us in that timeframe. I did love the 01/02 promotion team, but that felt more of a group of guys who came in on a short term basis and did a great job for a couple of years, in contrast to the prolonged success of the latter Premiership team.

I wouldn't normally have gone with a 4-4-2, but no way I was leaving out Graham or Doolan. Graham the rare exception on the list here in that he never played for us in the top flight.

I've also probably missed someone incredibly obvious...

I stumbled into something very similar to this but I'd put Docherty in ahead of Bannigan.

The more interesting bit I think is what kind of cover people would want on the bench.

  8. Realistically the Firhill surface isn’t good enough and doesn’t receive the level of investment required for upkeep to cover two teams in the same season.

I could only see the women moving to Firhill otherwise than for occasional games if we were to switch to an artificial surface. Something that would require multiple millions of pounds up front investment to do right.

  9. There was a discount at the start of the season for a Women’s ST if you already hold a Men’s one.

At Petershill you can usually get a seat if you want one but standing provision also very much available.

Over and above the excellent football and family (and dog) friendly atmosphere can also say the catering is way better than Firhill’s.

Courier saying we're going to offer Jack McMillan a PCA although they also say we're not desperate to get him in this window as we've other priorities.

What's he like? We've currently been playing Jordan McGhee there and he's never a RB. We've got Cammy Kerr, who is brutal and Tyler French who used to be amazing for us but hasn't impressed at Morton since recovering from injury. What's his style so to speak?

I would say he is arguably the second best full back/wing back I've ever seen play for Thistle, and probably the most well-rounded. O'Donnell was better going forward and offered more pace but they're much of a muchness defensively and O'Donnell was less reliable.

More than capable of making the step up. Has goals in his locker, and will work very well in any system where he is well supported by attacking wingers.

  11. If they’d left Firhill with a 4-1 victory I don’t think we could have had many complaints.

Totally fell out the game second half. No off-ball runs, poor use of wings, fundamentally not at the races.

Would have liked to see Zander brought on to inject a bit of pace and urgency into the game.

Harry Milne had a poor game and yet probably single handedly salvaged us a point with his defensive efforts.

We need an imposing defensive midfielder, should probably give David Mitchell a run of games, and Muirhead needs competition for the experienced centre half spot.

No point having Neilson running out with the ball from the back if there’s no midfield out ball for him to pass to.

In the circumstances, a point salvaged, probably undeservedly.
