Game is off according to shire web site. Fucking disgraceful

http://www.eaststirlingfc.co.uk/news_artic...livipreview.htm

Have Shire called this game off? The SFL? (And if so, how, on a Friday evening). Livingston have not - according to BBC News and Radio - been given permission not to play tomorrow. Farcical...

This has gone well beyond a state of comedy now. An absolute joke and Livi are simply managing to piss everyone off.

Feel for the Shire here as they will lose money because of this, which for smaller clubs is never good.

Regardless of any appeal regarding their league placing, I would dock Livingston 15 points for not being able to play. And the fact that Airdrie and Cowdenbeath's games could become totally irrelevant makes the situation even more of a laughing stock.

Livi will now be relying on the chairmen of all the other clubs to come to their rescue and to overturn the original decision, I wouldn't have thought that they have done themselves any favours with the manner that they have gone about this whole farce.

Has the SFL said it's off to avoid prejudicing the process - or is this the Livi/Shire line? How can the SFL say that all games are on at 11am, then do an entire 180 degree turn later in the day?

This is the second game we have been out of pocket for this week Spencer is 100% correct Sack The fuckers who make these stupid decisions. SFL w**k w**k w**k

this is total farce.

shire are gonna be well out of pocket fo rthis non game as they will have to pay for stewarding & policing (extra for opening the terrace), lost hospitality, cost of staff wages, cost of hiring stenny for a non existant game plus what about the fans that are travelling from england who have trains and hotels booked. There is never any consideration for fans as people just think they live locally and never have to travel for a game or make plans so they can get to the game.

East Stirling are entitled to pursue Livingston for actual losses accrued - under SFL Rule 28.4.1.

From the SFL site.... a somewhat different take on the issue from the wording that appears on the ES site.

East Stirlingshire v Livingston

The Scottish Football League have this evening been advised by that Livingston Football Club will not be fulfilling their IRN-BRU SFL Third Division fixture against East Stirlingshire at Ochilview Park tomorrow, Saturday August 8, which had a scheduled 3.00pm kick off.

It is our duty to communicate this information to all supporters who were planning to attend the match.

This matter will now be referred to the Scottish Football League Management Committee for consideration.

All other fourteen fixtures in the IRN-BRU Scottish Football League will be played tomorrow as previously communicated.

If this is true then clearly the SFL position is they categorically know Livi will scratch tomorrow, so they are telling everyone in advance. The punishment must be severe, as with Hamilton Accies...

Well that's that then.

The SFL haven't postponed the game and so long as 'Shire are there, Livi are, and I offer no apologies for my succinctness, fucked.

Here's the official SFL line, somewhat different from the wording on the Shire site.

"Now that the appeal has been lodged the SFL cannot allow anything to prejudice that process. Therefore, the scheduled match will not take place.

Officials of East Stirlingshire FC were informed of the league's decision to postpone the match at 8:10pm on Friday evening."

It's looking more like an official postponement - which means Livi will receive no punishment for this. Clearly the SFL is now running scared (perhaps rightly) of legal proceedings and is proceeding with the utmost caution.

For McGrouther and the Consortium it is a last throw of the dice. Win the appeal, they stay in Division 1 and have a long-shot of making their business plan work. Lose the appeal and Livi goes out of business, making the fulfilment of the East Stirling fixture academic.

Part of McGrouther's legal remit is to ensure he doesn't make the financial situation worse than it already is. In his eyes, laying out expenses to fulfil (again, in his eyes) a meaningless fixture suddenly makes sense.

Ok I'll rephrase it: most of the Livi fans do not think we are too good for the third division & we would be very happy just to survive.

The people attempting to rescue your club would do well to listen to that then and get on with things.

Livingston FC deserved to be punished for years of financial mismangement.

Instead of blaming the SPL, I'd look in the direction of West Lothian if I was you. Livi have been demoted and they should play the fixture. Their fans want a club and a chance to start afresh; this is their opportunity.

McGruther on Sky Sports News just now saying Livingston will survive as he's recieved 2 different acceptable offers. 1 is an offer for Livi as a 1st division club and the other is an offer for Livi as a 3rd division club, so no matter the result of the appeal, Livi will survive.
