yoda Posted October 27, 2014 Share Posted October 27, 2014 Gaelic is a "hobby language" and the main benefit of it is you occasionally get some nice sounding Scottish folk music from people like Julie Fowlis. I know several people who are fluent in Gaelic (they were taught it at home/learned it in primary school) and I can't recall anyone ever getting annoyed at others just because they can speak gaelic. They've rarely spoken any gaelic when I've been in their company and most of them see it as a nice thing to have learned but it is of no real benefit. P.S.- The first primary school I attended had a "Gaelic unit". Would have kicked the door in, but I just saw Backdraft a few weeks ago.
