The Verve aren't from Manchester!

Anyway, just for the record, I voted "other" although I'm not sure whether I prefer The Fall or Magazine.

I could've voted for half the bands too though :)

Well spotted. That one slipped my radar. Pasted the list from Wiki.

World Of Twist were from Sheffield too. They might count as being from the Manchester "scene" I suppose, which is pretty subjective. A lot of people seem to count The Charlatans as a Manchester band as well. :)

I guess it's just like the fact that anyone from East Kilbride, Belshill, Paisley etc. seems to get counted as a "Glasgow" band in most people's eyes.

how the f**k can oasis have more votes than new order, the roses and the smiths???

Because they're better than all of them.

Me and a mate are always arguing about who's better, Oasis or The Stone Roses. He makes the valid point that Oasis are heavily influenced by The Stone Roses, but then again how many really good songs do The Stone Roses have? Fair enough their first album is a topper, but that's about 10 good songs. I could name 40 cracking songs by Oasis, easily.

Autechre, although is Rochdale counting as Manchester? If not then a tie between 808 State and A Guy Called Gerald, both of whom have made albums that are amazing and seminal.

Cant decide between Rae & Christian, who did wonders for UK underground hip hop, both with their own productions and also with their Grand Central label, and A Guy Called Gerald - a huge player in the early days of both acid house and drum & bass.
