Ya Bezzer!
Does it? I thought it proved that the mediocre to good players are most likely to be the ones who break appearance records, because the better players have all moved to England to make money. Stevie Hammell spent some time down in England with Southend where he made 55 league appearances before he came back to Motherwell. He'd probably be well clear of Severin's record he hadn't had that spell down south. He's still in his 20's (just, 29) and as good as ever so he could go on and add another 100 appearances without too many problems. The match past against Celtic was his 400th overall for Motherwell. The Troll
Who came closest for St Johnstone? Surely Alan Main?
craigkillie
Who came closest for St Johnstone? Surely Alan Main? St Johnstone have only played 238 SPL games, so none of your guys will be anywhere near that unless they've played for other clubs. Main played 124 SPL matches - 109 for Saints and 15 for Livingston. craigkillie
Steven Hammell was due to make a record 348th appearance tonight, but the abandonment of the Motherwell-Hibs game means his 45 minutes on the pitch won't count. That means that James Fowler can join him and Scott Severin on 347 if he plays for Killie tomorrow.
Don of the South
Barry Nicholson left us on 284. He may sneak over 300 eventually. Derek Young managed
the-gaffer606
what about Barry Ferguson and Russell Anderson? I'm quite confident both made over 300 apps but maybe not in the SPL
the-gaffer606
Stevie Crawford or Gary Smith?
craigkillie
Ferguson made 274 in the SPL. Russell Anderson made 280 appearances in the league in total for Aberdeen. 240 of those were in the SPL. I checked Crawford when I was compiling the list, and he didn't have enough. Think he was around 200ish. Gary Smith made 196 in the SPL by the looks of things. He certainly seems to have made over 350 top flight appearances though.
