Take both of these together....... Less than a hundred years ago, the football stadium was the ONLY place one could gather in numbers for some people. The only political gatherings of that size tended to be at places like Nuremberg. Gatherings of like-minded folk took place, and have always taken place, in a variety of venues, football stadia being one. To suggest that football matches are political events is one hell of a reach - the vast majority of attendees would be there to, er, watch the football. Unless you reckon Kier Hardie came to his Socialist maturity while watching Hamilton grinding out a 0-0 draw against Falkirk, of course. As for the regular forced oppression of those who challenge the current political powers - I think you'll find that many of us in the TU movement continue to do so to this day, despite the Executive and Judiciary colluding in an ongoing attempt to silence us - with no regard to a person's age, nationality, colour, gender or sexual orientation, never mind what school they went to. Unlawful Assembly is one of their preferred methods of control, but Contempt of Court is the current favourite in my Union's case. Not one person has the right to be political or try and enforce their politics on others at any sporting event.
