stonedsailor
Scientists in ancient times did not believe the earth was flat. (no-one mentioned Christians or where the earth was in relation to anything else, just that it wasn't flat) Santa i.e. Saint Nicholas ie Nikolaos of Myra was real, but his significance became hijacked and commercialised http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dry_water Better? Science is a word which takes it's origins from the latin scientia, meaning knowledge, a scientist is a seeker of knowledge. It could be argued that science has existed since mankind looked up to the stars and wondered what they were or looked at the sky and wondered why it was blue. It would follow then that any human who wondered about anything and set out to prove their findings was a scientist. Pre-classical Greek society did indeed believe in a flat, disk shaped Earth. Near East societies also believed the Earth to be a plane until the Hellenistic period as did civilisations on the Indian subcontinent until the Gupta period which was early AD. The paradigm of a spherical earth was developed in Greek astrology around the 6th century BC although most pre-Socratics retained the flat earth model. Nikaloas of Myra was never known as St Nicholas or indeed Santa Claus whilst he existed, dry ice is carbon dioxide, dry water is wet water wrapped in silicon. Better? B+ No problem, since we are scoring each others work yours gets an F- due to the fact you totally misunderstood the "Myth of the flat Earth" which teaches that in middle ages educated people believed that the earth was flat and Columbus had to overcome this belief to get his project to sail Westwards to India to be sanctioned. During that time science had accepted the Earth was spherical, however as shown there was a belief in ancient times that the earth was flat. 2200 years out in your attempt at smugness is a very poor show. Pesky silicon dioxide.

stonedsailor
Just to add normal ice is dry. The wetness on the outside is melted ice, ie water.... I'd like to add that I never disputed that point. Ice is water in it's solid form, liquids are wet solids are dry. Pretty obvious really but dry ice is carbon dioxide in it's solid form.

Or 5 Rangers at their starting price. That must smart.

Pesky silicon dioxide. Wasn't being smug, at a guess you are projecting there mate. I just found your pedantry a bit weird, unless of course you really think the reason bennett gets pelters is because he claims he's gay? Btw, china believed in a flat earth until fairly recently, 17th centuary I believe. So while the "Flat Earth Myth" is not true in the West it ironically is in the very place Columbus was trying to get to.

Apparently the myth that people in the middle ages believed the earth to be flat dates from the 17th century as part of the campaign by Protestants against Catholic teachings. Bennett gets pelters because he is Bennett, I am pedantic because that is what P&B is, a place for pedants to try to out pedant each other.
Monkey Tennis
Celtic have just recieved £24m euros from Uefa for last seasons efforts.....nice And there we have pretty much everything that's wrong with modern football. It's doing huge damage to competitiveness, even in places like England. In countries the size of Scotland, it's catastrophic.

Pretty sure both of them state the earth is flat with a bowl shaped sky.
stonedsailor
Seriously? Have they ever compared bibles? Pretty sure both of them state the earth is flat with a bowl shaped sky. James Hannam wrote: The myth that people in the Middle Ages thought the earth is flat appears to date from the 17th century as part of the campaign by Protestants against Catholic teaching. But it gained currency in the 19th century, thanks to inaccurate histories such as John William Draper's History of the Conflict Between Religion and Science (1874) and Andrew Dickson White's History of the Warfare of Science with Theology in Christendom (1896). Atheists and agnostics championed the conflict thesis for their own purposes, but historical research gradually demonstrated that Draper and White had propagated more fantasy than fact in their efforts to prove that science and religion are locked in eternal conflict From Dr James Hannam's "Science versus Christianity"
