forameus
It was a surprise, but it feels like one of those surprises they did just for the sake of it. Not like a well executed heel-turn or anything, just a "oh look, Zack Ryder just won" sort of surprise that they very quickly go back on. I think they're just desperately trying to treat water over the next few months while they work out where everyone's going to sit. It's really amazing how many times WWE have put into place something which has real potential but then really f**k the landing on it. The shakeup should've been a draft which pretty much planned out your next year of programming going into next year's WM. Wouldn't really have needed too much more, just a few more changes. Instead they just threw shit at the wall with very little plan and had a few Smackdown people appear on RAW anyway. I don't think they have any idea what they're doing until the big Summerslam feuds, and whatever dirt Jindypops has on people, it's gotten him a temporary push.
Ira Gaines
Something different doesn't have to mean putting a total nobody in a top match. A guy who's bland in every way. This "you wanted something different" argument doesn't wash.

"Tonight's Main Event - Tony Chimel versus that fud who is always sitting opposite the camera, in a "Leftovers from Strowman's lunch" on a Pole Match!" Well, you asked for something different...
JamieStevenson
Hope Chimel turns heel and decks the p***k with his mic.

Ludo*1
Hope Finkel does a surprise return and hits everyone with a chair to the head before fucking off again out the arena, scrapping with stewards and police officers as they try to remove/arrest him.

Justin Roberts lays out JBL with a sledgehammer. This match could be fucking brilliant.
JamieStevenson
RuRu saying he'll only wrestle on SmackDown if he gets a championship match at Money in the Back. Some boy.
JamieStevenson
Jinder looking the business with his wee pals. Expect them to quickly become a joke much like Rollins with J&J.
JamieStevenson
Breezango get a shot against The Usos at Backlash, that PPV is looking very missable already.

It's not even the wrestlers' fault - they're both alright in the ring, and entertaining enough I suppose. But that's it. Thanks to the writing they can't be seen as legitimate contenders. Although if you're going by that, none of them really could. Next week, Bollywood Boys become number 1 contenders to the Smackdown Women's Championship.
Guest bernardblack
I might be the only one who thinks that Breezeango gimmick is money.

DA Baracus
Sigh. Mahal's been given the 'not an American' gimmick. It's 2017. This shite was passe in the early 90s. He was a heel before they started playing up how he was a big nasty foreigner anyway, so there's absolutely no need to add in the xenophobic garbage. Not that he should be even in a WWE Title match mind. Boreton needs someone dynamic and interesting opposite him these days, given how he's fairly solid but plain in the ring these days, and Mahal doesn't give that. Plus he's a shitey jobber who took some roids and got a title match.
forameus
A few people have now made the point that Orton can be pretty good when he's into the match and opposite someone good. When he's not, he can absolutely stink the place out. That should be a worry to them.
JamieStevenson
I worry that Chicago will shit all over the show even more than usual. Orton will probably take offence to this and drag the arse out of the Jinder match. I hope not, it could be a better match than the one he had with Wyatt (not exactly a high bar set there). Has anyone ever seen Jinder in a singles match that wasn't only a couple of minutes long? Really interested to see what he has to offer. Looking like Orton will beat Jinder, then Rusev, before dropping the title to Corbin in the summer. At which point we'll likely see AJ make his rise back to the top. There's also potential for a cash in at some point too (maybe Corbin will be the one to cash in).
JamieStevenson
Also JBL had a mare on Talking Smack.

Orton is fine, Mahal could be, Rusev is good and Corbin has potential as a heel. But none of them really scream main event outside of Orton. Hopefully Styles/Nakamura/Owens get involved soon.
JamieStevenson
Based on what's happening on SmackDown right now, is this what we're likely to see for the Backlash PPV on May 21st? Randy Orton (C) vs Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship. Kevin Owens (C) vs AJ Styles for the WWE United States Championship. Naomi (C) vs Charlotte for the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship. The Usos (C) vs Breezango for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship. Shinsuke Nakamura vs Dolph Ziggler. Sami Zayn vs Baron Corbin. American Alpha vs The Colons. Becky Lynch vs Somebody from the new women's stable (Natalya, Carmella or Tamina)

He's got previous for going boring and surely can't be happy going from Lesnar to wyatt to Jinder.
