NFL General Discussion

I have absolutely no statistics to back this up. I dunno about anyone else, but to me it feels like ACL tears are far more common in American Sports than over here or in general in football etc.

Totally agree. Another 2 torn ACL's today. Both WRs, 1 in San Diego, 1 in Philly.

I know the NFL is as violent as can be, but you see a fair amount in Basketball and Baseball too. Can't remember the last player in Scotland nevermind elsewhere to have one. Did Derek Lyle not tear his at Hamilton a few years ago?

Looking for some advice from the guys who have been to a game in the US. What's the best option for pre-game tailgaiting? We're going to the Fins @ Bucs game in November and want to make a whole day of it. It's a MNF game so we're gonna head down around lunchtime and soak up the atmosphere. The ticket rep at the Bucs is trying to push the official tailgate party on us which admittedly sounds great ($30 for 3 hours of free food and beer & entertainment); just wondered if the official ones are generally good or if it's different on a team by team basis. Cheers in advance :)

Explain how he is doing excellent work please

The game has never been more popular. The viewing rates in the States and abroad have only grown through syndication. Ditto their website traffic continues to grow.

And in spite of this incredible interest in their league, they haven't rested on their laurels: They have also improved the quality of the coverage. You and I can watch on GamePass, US citizens have access to NFL Network, they show every pick in the NFL draft, they give us comprehensive coverage of Free Agency and they even show us guys running around in shorts at the Combine. They have also been at the forefront of interacting with new technology and social media apps in order to allow you to enjoy the league in many different ways. This is all before I even mention the in house documentary making which is of incredible quality.

He has overseen either the proliferation or inception of these things.

Now, do you understand how serious the consequences will be if the league is found to have put former players at undue risk of brain injuries? We could all be watching Arena Football. His efforts to improve the safety of the game may have insured the NFL to some degree from that threat, and certainly do moving forward. If you think this is mere speculation, what you and the brain dead critics of Goodell and the league conveniently leave out is that every rule change they have made in recent times has been done in consultation with neurologists and other specialists. Stupid these critics may be, but surely they are not so arrogant as to argue with doctors? And he hasn't done this simply through litigious motives: he's also doing it because it's right. You simply shouldn't be tackling a man's head. Nor should you be launching yourself head first in order to make that 'tackle'. This is just beyond argument.

This is all to overlook the creation of programmes for children's health, for breast cancer and many other charitable endeavours that the league has advanced under Goodell's stewardship.

Now I don't agree with every policy he put forth: Namely I am suspicious of his seeming preoccupation with London (though I do not believe he wants a franchise there. At least in the short- or medium-term. Rather, media outlets are making inferences from any remarks he makes on the subject) and the rule changes to enable a video-game style passing attack.

However I can overlook all of this as I still enjoy his league greatly and do so in the knowledge that he has helped to make it incredibly more accessible for me, a foreign fan, (year round!) that the league is profitable and so improvements will continue to come, and most importantly, that when I watch I am now less likely to see a man lay prone and unable to move.

That's me said my piece. Now, I understand it's easy to be cynical these days but I'd urge you and others of this mindset to snap out of that default negative setting and engage your brain and think critically and independently.

If you think you can, I'll respond to you by asking you to explain why you 'fucking hate' Goodell.

Thank you.

That's your opinion and I respect that but in my opinion the game would be massive worldwide even if me or you were commissioner of the NFL

This whole player safety thing is pissing me off as well. Yes we all want to see the best players on the field week in and week out but this is a contact sport with bodies crunching into each other.I for one like to see a big hit from a defender on a receiver or ball carrier. And this whole thing where the RB's aren't allowed leading with the crown of there helmet is fucking nonsense as well.

The f**k up with he refs going on strike had a big part to do with him. the fact the league went on strike was on his watch aswell. Both should have been avoided.

The no celebration rule is ridiculous and he was the one who implied it

Hope that answers your question

So pre season started last night

The Ravens spanked the Buccaneers 44-16 in Tampa. Mike Glennon got some decent playing time for the Buccs going 11-23 for 163 yards. According to things Iv read he looked ok and could push Freeman for the starting job

The Bengals went into Atlanta and beat the Falcons 34-10. 2nd round draft pick Gio Bernard went in from a yard for his 1st TD in the NFL. He ended up 10 carries for 28 yards and a TD. Brian Banks, the player who spent 5 years in prison for a crime he didnt commit, got some action in the 4th quarter.

The Browns hosted the Rams in Cleveland and emerged 27-19 winners. Brandon Weeden looked sharp going 10-13 for 112 yards and a TD toss too Dion Lewis. Top draft pick Barkevious Mingo also had a sack on the night

The Redskins beat the Titans 22-21 with a 2 point conversion with 2.23 left inn the game. RG3 didnt play but was seen warming up before. Chance Warmack was impressive for the Titans and Chris Johnson had a 50 plus yard TD score. Highlights below

The Broncos debuted a new pistol offence in there 10-6 win over the Niners. Peyton only played 1 series for the Broncos while Kaepernick did the same for the Niners. Seemed like a snoozefest

The Seahawks wen to San Diego and beat up on the Chargers 31-10 at Quolcomm. Seahawks backup Tararis Jackson threw for 2 Tds and Brady Quinn for 1 as the Seahawks cruised. Manti Teo made his debut and didnt recoed a tackle

I thought POTC argued his case fairly well there. I'm undecided on Goodell. I still don't agree with the no celebration rule and the fucking about with kick-offs (done just as my Bears had the best returner in the game, b*****ds!).

I think the running back helmet rule will be one that everyone predicts to make a massive impact but in reality won't make much difference. We'll probably only know once the proper matches start though.
