If Germany, France and the Uk want us in we will get in. To.think.that the likes of Romania will.have a genuine say is lunacy.

I'll say it again we will get.into the EU, UN and whatever else you want to.throw up. You know it, Reynard knows it, everyone knows it.

So their views are to be discounted? Is this really the sort of outfit a small country like Scotland wants to be a part of?

Romania have a veto, as do all other 28 member states.

You are asserting we WILL get in which is an entirely different position adopted by Sturgeon and Salmond who said we were ALREADY in. Some of the nationalist supporters on here argued their case for them and agreed with this statement. I take it that you dispute their line?

Note also the hilarious clutching at straws from John Swinney at the time. Talk about desperate :-

John Swinney, the SNP leader, told BBC Radio Scotland Mr Prodi was simply wrong. He suggested the EU leader was playing to a domestic audience in his native Italy, where the Northern League once backed independence.

Not really because by the time Independance day comes along we will already have negotiated the terms of our "continuing" membership.

And if Scotland chose not to be a member of the Commonwealth you'd not be a Commonwealth citizen either.

Membership of these organisations are entirely down to the country/state you have actual citizenship of and it's embership status of these institutions. There's no such thing as an actual stand alone EU /Commonwealth citizen.

Note that it was Romano Prodi, not Barroso who said that also. So the message has been consistent regardless of the country the EC President is from.

...but a Welsh MEP is not the elected government of the UK, H_B. How could it be that Mr. Prodi felt able to reply?

"the EU leader was playing to a domestic audience in his native Italy, where the Northern League once backed independence."

Ah.

Might as well have been Mr. Barroso who has been contradicted by his foreign minister twice.

They wont veto, u know it. Thriving, developed Northern European country with vast oil and fish reserves. Ahhh f**k it, gimme Slovenia

Spain.can find somewhere else to fish.

I suspect they won't. But there's absolutely no telling how things might pan out with their own little local difficulty.

But you are quite right, the EU will absolutely want control of the fishing again which was the price the UK paid for membership and no doubt it will want control of the oil too which has always been the main sticking point for Norwegian membership. They have gone so far with the EU and no firther as they want full control over their resources. Which is entirely the right thing to do.

Then some more comical arrant nonsense :-

"There would be a process of negotiation going on for Scotland to leave the United Kingdom, part of which would include us inheriting the treaty obligations of the UK," he said.

Bzzz... wrong!

"I think we have to look at Mr Prodi’s remarks in the round," he said. "Remember, Mr Prodi isn’t some dispassionate civil servant. Mr Prodi is an Italian politician wanting to become the next prime minister of Italy. "I suspect he probably has got an eye on some domestic politics when he makes those comments."

Unlike you of course John, who are entirely neutral on the matter!

.

Again, your idiocy shines through like a beacon.

What the EU have said is that they will not comment on any specific situation. Neither Prodi nor Barroso did - both outlined the principle without bothering to name Scotland, Wales, Catalonia or any other regions.

Still, no susprise you embraced Swinney's cringeworthy narrative. Makes you wonder why the SNP are so keen to join Europe, given none of these EC Presidents seem to be trustworthy!

So...the answer may not apply to Scotland since that specific situation was not answered.

Cheers.

Ooft. Even by your very very low standards, and absolute capitulation.

We will get.into the EU. End of discussion.

After the European elections the spotlight will be.on the UKs membership.
