Dundee United vs Motherwell - 13/08/14

Recommended Posts

Alright lads settle down. If this is what you're like after a moderately successful season I'd hate to see you after a poor season.

We would ransack the City of Dundee and have a home crowd of 32 people and a mongrel dog.

That is what would happen.

You can't count the dog if it didn't pay to get in - I assume this is the logic behind the earlier Dee post discounting free school tickets.

I like the way Folk are trying to talk down the best of the rest for 3 (three) years on the fucking trot!!!

TBF I don't fancy us much for this year, but I didn't this time last year either.

I stick to my earlier prediction.

I love the fitba!

I like the following, We were pretty shite for a good few of the years too, like bottom and second bottom. Still miles ahead of Dundee Utd. Doesn't even include Last year!

Cracking game, that, as Clancy did his utmost to f**k it up. Fojut against Sutton was a cracking contest.

Disappointed to lose it from what was a great strike after a terrible looking touch, but a lot of positives for us. Erwin and Leitch were fantastic, Angol was great in the first half and Kerr had another good game and kept ciftci affa quiet.

Horrible debut for Ferguson, but you've got to feel for a boy making his debut at half time against the most attacking team in the league at left back when he's plainly aw right foot.

Victory!

First half was pretty average, both teams defended very well but were also not too adventurous going forward. Second half was much more United doing what they can do best, pressing high up the park attacking teams. We dominated a large majority of the second half and deserved the win in the end. It took a magnificent strike by Bilate and hopefully that will give him the opportunity to potentially start ahead of Cifcti at some point (Ciftci was frustrating as hell tonight and needs a kick up the backside)

I won't go overboard about Morris and Fojut (although I am tempted to) but I thought they were both fantastic again tonight. Fojut against Sutton was a great contest and I can guarantee that if it was our defence of last year then Sutton would have had far more joy. Fojut seemed to relish the physical side of the game and thrived on it.

All in all it is a perfect way to start the year. It is only two games in but we look a hell of a lot more difficult to break down this season and thank f**k for that!

That's the most organised and disciplined I've seen us in defence for a while. McCall had Leitch and Lasley pushing right up on Paton and Rankin to stop them from dictating the game and we forced United into being more and more direct.

Only thing we were missing was an out ball and as the game dragged on we dropped deeper and deeper and seemed like only a matter of time. Fair play to the boy though, cracking strike worthy of winning any game.

For us I thought young Erwin up front and Leitch in midfield both had cracking games, two players with huge potential for us. Big Fraz Kerr showed up well again in his natural position, thoroughly deserves to keep his place in the team regardless of who we bring in.

Fair enjoyed the game, one of those matches where you feel like you're kicking every ball. Can't really argue that United probably deserved the win and we could do nothing to stop the eventual winning goal.

Would like to see the penalty incident again though for the foul on Erwin, looked a clear foul from where we were.

Ah well, certainty a marked improvement from our last visit to Tannadice. Onwards and upwards and all that.

On Sunday Aberdeen didn't have a shot on target, despite having nine corners.

Tonight Motherwell didn't have a shot on target, they had eight corners.

That in itself says something about our revitalised defence.

ETA. When was the last season we started with two wins and two clean sheets?

Says more about Niall McGinn's finishing tbh.

This football malarkey is rather easy when you've got central defenders that actually know what defending is :thumsup2 Love Fojut and Morris already

First half I would say Motherwell slightly edged it, but by the end United win was a fair result, and what a goal to win it with!

Also Clancy's a c**t.

Enjoyed the game tonight, was tough to concede so late after the big defensive effort, but utd looked the more likely to get the winner in the second half. Great effort from a makeshift team tho.

Oh and damn that linesman. I checked for the flag after the pass was played and it stayed down. Only went up after the ball hit the net. Playin with my emotions.

Bye bye Brian Graham. Two games in, and it's clear Super Mario is ten times the player. Great hold-up play, and what a stunning goal to win it.

We were nowhere near our best and were resorting to long balls, but I always felt the goal was coming. Bring on Celtic!

BBC online report suggesting GMS' s sexuality may be in question.

"The sense was of United holding the edge, since the creative trio of Stuart Armstrong, Ryan Dow and Gay Mackay-Steven - all feints, flicks, dribbling skill and devilment - could provide a decisive touch at any moment."

Don't get too excited, it was only 2 years ago.

Good stat about the defence though. Last season we prob conceded from 1 in 3 corners!

Almost. It went up about the time it left his boot. Really late flag mind.

United deserved it, after a poor first half, much better throughout the second, but took a worldly strike to win it.

Agree with other comments - fojut v Sutton was a good contest.

Was very impressed by Townsend.

Happy days.
