H_B
There's all the encouragement you need. Plus, after a yes-vote, we'll be spared the Boris-Farage coalition. I love that, not content with the scaremongering nonsense of a UKIP/Conservative coalition, clowns like you have taken it up a notch and now have a Boris-Farage coalition. Brilliant stuff. loyal-blue
This thread begs the question, why did DC agree to a referendum in the first place?
H_B
This thread begs the question, why did DC agree to a referendum in the first place? Well, he had two choices. 1) Control the situation, get what he needed from the agreement and have a referendum that he couldn't lose. Do salmond up like a kipper. 2) Attempt to subjugate Scotland by refusing to recognise the SNP's right to have one, have them do one anyway unilaterally, with any number of options and then deal with the consequences of a truculent region a la Spain. Which would you choose?
Casual Bystander
... and have a referendum that he couldn't lose. More arrogance from the No supporters.

H_B
More arrogance from the No supporters. The winner takes it all. The losers whine. Tis the way of the world.
H_B
Fair point. It is an interesting What If... scenario. Spain can't let Catalonia have a referendum because they know they will vote "Yes". Would a UK government have fought harder to prevent a referendum if they thought Yes would win?

Casual Bystander
The winner takes it all. The losers whine. Tis the way of the world. History written by the victors and all that. Still it doesn't dismiss the fact from it being a pointedly incorrect statement to say it is a referendum he "couldn't" lose. It's that sort of implicitness that borders on arrogance. Reynard
Hopefully Salmond will stay on stubbornly after the no vote. Watching him endure two years of sniping from his own party and pointing and laughing from everyone else would be a fitting end to the fat c***s career. I think he will f**k off sharpish after 18thSept though. Or be forced to f**k off by Acrylic heid or one of the other incompetents waiting in the wings. Casual Bystander
Hopefully Salmond will stay on stubbornly after the a possible no vote. Why wouldn't he? He has delivered exactly what he promised; a referendum. It's not like he's Nick Clegg and immediately tore up his manifesto the minute he got into power. He has also presided over 2 consecutive SNP (Scottish) governments in a system specifically designed by Westminster to stop a single party gaining power. Whether you like the guy or not, it would be extremely churlish to suggest he has been anything but a success.
Casual Bystander
Maybe you should just start a new thread, post that quote and be done with it rather than positing it repeatedly in separate threads?
Thumper
I dare say Salmond's been a better First Minister than he has a leader for the Yes campaign. The grassroots have done a far better job of the latter. He's a statesman
