Smurph
Cheers to everyone who has replied. I'll definitely try and check some of those out. For anyone who's interested, there's a Glasgow Psych Fest on international week. Might try and head along to one of the days. Sounds pretty decent. For anyone who's interested, there's a Glasgow Psych Fest on international week. Might try and head along to one of the days. Sounds pretty decent. Simon from Trembling Bells, who seem to be headlining this, is an old friend from Inverness. They're a bit folkier than a lot of the stuff you mentioned in your original post, but their recent stuff has been a bit more west coast, and certainly worth listening to. Might head along, although Sunday is a school night and also clashes with the Germany-Scotland game.
TheScarf
I've gotten into a few of these genres recently. Particularly the 'Bristol Sound' of breakbeats, female vocalists and intersting lyrics. started with Portishead and MA. I've got a couple of Echo and the Bunnymen albums but they're both indie stuff from the 90's. Pretty keen to get hold of their early stuff as I've heard it's quite a different sound. Smurph
Been listening to a lot of these suggestions and there's a load of good stuff, so thank you. Through it all, I've found yet another subgenre - dream pop (or nu gaze or whatever). I recommend checking out The Stargazer Liles, Black Moth Super Rainbow and The Casket Girls. JogaBonito
Infected Mushroom is pretty psychadelic. Give Vicious Delicious or The Gathering a shot. Urban Species debut album "blanket" is pretty good. (trip-hop). Another group you might like is Lamb.
Colin M
For trip-hop I'd wholeheartedly recommend parts of the early Mo Wax output - other than Shadow, DJ Krush's 1994 album "Strictly Turntablized" is terrific instrumental hip hop, and if you can get the Headz compilation and the mammoth 2 double CDs that made up Headz 2 then there's loads of stuff in there from a number of genres that all hangs together. Smurph
Keep digging and digging into these genres and it's times like these I realise just how wonderful Spotify is as a tool to listen to new music. I recommend listening to the Shoegaze Encyclopedia if possible. Picking a song and generating a radio from it has helped me find a fantastic amount of bands too. My current favourite are The Beta Band.
