Grim O'Grady
White moon you saw me standing alone... Looking forward to the home leg of the play-off but won't be traveling north for the away leg. Will I be allowed to wear my City shirt? Grimbo
WaffenThinMint
Really. Never heard of that one though it was the citizens. http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Scottish_Football_League/Edinburgh_City/Edinburgh_City.htm http://www.spartansfc.com/2013/07/05/fantastic-five/ "Striker Robbie Ross completes the confirmed new signings as he makes a move from Edinburgh City. Robbie has scored a hugely impressive number of goals in the East of Scotland League for the Meadowbank side. His performances for the Lilywhites earned him a move to the SFL with Arbroath. He moved back to Edinburgh City a few season ago and continued where he left off, regularly scoring vital goals for City." There's a bit of debate where the name came from - some say it was copying Tottenham Hotspur due to mistakenly thinking they had the same strip, but it's been pointed out numerous Edinburgh University sides (& for that matter British University sides in general, eg. Cambridge) have the "Lilywhite" tag. I wonder however whether it is more than coincidence that the main place back in those days to get all your sports equipment was the iconic "Lillywhites" on Princes Street - which served the same purpose as the old Lumleys store in Glasgow & shipped "sporting equipment" all over the Empire back in the days of handlebar moustaches, baggy shorts, & footballs with the playability of a house brick. The Lillywhites store is second on the left. It is now HMV, whose Twitter site gave a wee nod to their past with the following piccy yesterday:
The_Matador
Well done to City. Well deserved. Gary and Co have been building a solid and hard working squad for the past few seasons who work extremely hard for each other. Good luck in the playoffs.
