Who is Robinson an improvement on? He was very poor in this league the last time around, and couldn't get a game for Hearts last season in the league below. You can make the argument that he's younger, less injury prone and might have potential, but I don't believe he's anywhere close to Clingan in terms of ability.

Clingan was very poor last season, to slow on and off the ball. Good free kick now and then seemed to cover this. People have been screaming out for ages for someone with drive pace and dig in midfield and what i can remember of robinson was exactly that. He's at a good age and this will no doubt be his last chance to prove himself as a SPFL player. I honestly think he'll be a good addition to the squad.

There's no doubt he's a good signing for Killie, taking a regular first team player from a team that finished above you is a coup no matter what spin we try and put on it. As I say it's a reality check for Thistle fans, teams around us can outbid us and we're left to try and replace them with guys with a point to prove (as Higgy was when he joined us). I'm happy with the approach we're taking, but it points to a difficult season ahead.

I'm not so sure. County took Fox but Cerny is as good, probably better. Archie could have a better replace for Higginbotham lined up too. He now has a scouting network to help him.

Both County and Killie have made the decision to go for less numbers and more 'quality' in the squad. Now the latter point is up for debate with our signings so far, but it could explain why us and RC are able to possibly offer bigger wages than Thistle.

Also, Killie are pushing towards 2500 ST holders at the moment, whereas Thistle are at 1500 (according to SampFan101) so that extra 1000 is a fair whack in terms of possibly offering a few hundred quid p/w more than some teams.

Alan Archibald has said the exact same thing this season.

The point about season tickets is true, though. It's money that Killie have already in the bank that we don't. We would need to speculate to accumulate if we were to sign all our targets, which is a risky thing in football.

Has he? Wow. I've never really thought of Thistle having a 'flabby' squad, certainly not in comparison to Killie or County. You don't see many Paul Cairneys or Michael Ngoos around Firhill.

Looking at the financials too - we've had our home shirt on sale since the last game of the 14/15 season, and it's proving popular so there's a few extra bob too. We've been lucky too that the improvements to the gym/Sports Bar areas have been heavily subsidised so it doesn't have to eat into our player budget much.

No need for Thistle to speculate IMHO. If you did go down, then you'd have all the tools in place now to challenge for an instant return.

I'm pleased with this signing. In terms of pure ability, he's one of the best in the league. The biggest issue I have is whether Locke will know how to use him effectively in order to get some form of consistent performance from him. There's no point in having a guy with that level of talent if the ball is going to sail over his head for 90 minutes every week.

I think you're getting a bit carried away there! Good player, but the odd highlight reel move doesn't make you one of the best players in the league on any basis. He is however remarkably good in air for a guy his size, so perhaps Locke sees him fitting in perfectly with his brand of football.

Further to this, KIllie have employed a top sports scientist, on a high wage, to help with training and specialised fitness regimes. The thinking is that we can gain an advantage by having a fitter squad than most others in the league.

At last some positivity around RP. Higgy is the type of player who gets you off your seat with his attacking flair . Losa did that with one pass which IMO isn't the same thing but in the past few seasons we have had very little to get us off the plastic.

The Thistle fans seem to divided on his ability but I remember the same was said about Chic Charnley , a luxury , a passenger, a disruptive influence, billy big boots etc etc . It's normal to be upset when you lose a player like him to a bigger club as we did with Boyd . But you never know he might return and save you from relegation in the future if you're not already down .

Ha! or LOL! Or whatever I'm supposed to say now you cheeky wee scamp ;)

My point was that, apparently, the guy we now have is a cut above your normal nutritionist/specialist that other clubs employ. He was also, apparently, in great demand but we have paid basically a first team players salary to secure his services.

However, I take your point because previous to this Killie were pretty much still in the 80s with training and fitness regimes.

No Cairney's or Ngoo's but we've always carried a few older fringe players that Archie feels are unnecessary. I guess he's looking at a strong first 11, a couple of experienced subs and the rest of the squad being filled with home grown youth rather than the likes of James Craigen and Conrad Balatoni.

And I dunno about the tools to return if we were relegated, especially this upcoming year. Almost our whole squad is out of contract at the end of 15/16, which is a worry.
