HibeeJibee
Basically it's 'as you were' next season, with the Challenge Cup once again starting on the last weekend in July, and League Cup starting a week later. Premiership starts same weekend, though. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32535747 Daft practice of having the relegated Premiership club(s) start in League Cup R2, and the promoted club(s) start in R1, and one Premiership club start in R3 despite not entering CL/EL, evidently continuing - given it says: Either one or two Scottish League Cup first-round matches scheduled for the weekend of Saturday 1 August might be moved because of the involvement of a Premiership club starting their top-flight campaign at the same time. Anyone got the full dates? Also be interesting to see what happens in the Scottish Cup - I was reading on another thread that Civil Service Strollers are on the verge of their licence and them + 18 HL clubs + 14 LL clubs + 2 licensed juniors would = 35 licensed non-leaguers. That in turn would see 5 places left in R1 under the current system, assuming it isn't altered, so the 15 other non-league clubs would presumably have to play 2 qualifying rounds instead of 1. There was a preliminary round this season and in 2012-13.
realmadrid
Another quirk next season could be that the Scottish cup holders could be eliminated a round before this seasons Premiership teams plus Hearts and those in the play offs enter, following Falkirk 's failure to finish in the top 4 this season. HibeeJibee
Fair point. Petrofac Cup run and EL groupstage would be a heck of a backlog...

Isn't it the case that there could be three Premiership clubs playing in the League Cup First Round next season? Since Hearts and one of Hibs/Rangers/QoS could be involved, plus Falkirk would be exempt (if they won the Scottish) since they would be participating in a UEFA competition: 'For the First Round, the thirty lowest placed Clubs of the League at the end of the preceding Season, which are not participating in the UEFA Competitions, will play a single tie on the ground of the first named Club.' {SPFL Rules and Regulations; p.119} So that would take Falkirk out of the reckoning and one further Premiership club would have to compete in Round One (e.g. Ross County) instead. Would it not be one of the relegated sides (whoever is 12th) that take the extra spot ?
the jambo-rocker
So I wasn't just imagining the conflict between the opening premiership game and the League Cup 1st round for ourselves?

NorthernLights
What happens in the scenario where Brora are promoted and Montrose are relegated with regards to the Challenge Cup? Would Montrose still get to compete in the competition next season to make up the numbers?
HibeeJibee
Guessing so, as another 'helping hand' to the departing member? In that particular scenario it'd also mean 1 current member of HL & LL participating (Montrose & Ed City).
RabidAl
What happens in the scenario where Brora are promoted and Montrose are relegated with regards to the Challenge Cup? Would Montrose still get to compete in the competition next season to make up the numbers? Don't think it'd be any different to the normal situation. Winners of the HL & LL from the previous season gain entry, as do the 30 non-Premiership SPFL clubs from the previous season. So Brora, Edinburgh City and Montrose would all play in the first round as you would expect.
HibeeJibee
If City had gone up and Montrose down I could see an argument for including EK not Montrose... Otherwise LL would have had no representation, and HL x2?

HibeeJibee
Fair enough. So if we assume that Ross County don't end-up finishing 11th and getting relegated, that would leave the Challenge Cup regions looking like this then: North-East Brora Elgin Peterhead Arbroath Brechin Forfar Montrose Cowdenbeath Dunfermline East Fife Raith Alloa East Stirlingshire Falkirk Stenhousemuir Stirling South-West Livingston Edinburgh City Berwick Dumbarton Airdrie Albion Rovers Clyde Queen's Park Morton Ayr Annan Stranraer 4 of Kilmarnock/Motherwell/St Mirren/Hibs/Rangers/QotS In the Scottish Cup the entry points will be: Fourth Round Aberdeen, Celtic, Dundee, Dundee Utd, Hamilton, Hearts, Hibs, Inverness, Kilmarnock, Motherwell, Partick, QotS, Rangers, Ross County, St Johnstone, St Mirren Third Round Airdrie, Albion Rovers, Alloa, Ayr, Brechin, Cowdenbeath, Dumbarton, Dunfermline, Falkirk, Forfar, Livingston, Morton, Peterhead, Raith, Stranraer, 1 of Stenhousemuir/Queen's Park/Arbroath/East Fife Second Round 3 of Stenhousemuir/Queen's Park/Arbroath/East Fife, Annan, Berwick, Brora, Clyde, East Kilbride, East Stirlingshire, Edinburgh City, Elgin, Montrose, Stirling, Turriff First Round (HL) - Buckie, Clachnacuddin, Cove, Deveronvale, Formartine, Forres, Fort William, Fraserburgh, Huntly, Inverurie, Keith, Lossiemouth, Nairn, Rothes, Strathspey, Wick (LL) - BSCG, Dalbeattie, Edinburgh Uni, Gala, Gretna, Preston, Selkirk, Spartans, Stirling Uni, Threave, Vale of Leithen, Whitehill (Juniors) - Banks o'Dee, Linlithgow Rose^ Preliminaries (EOSL) - Burntisland, Civil Service Strollers, Coldstream, Hawick, + 1 of Easthouses/Leith/LTHV* (SOSL) - Newton Stewart, St Cuthbert Wanderers, Wigtown (NCL) - Golspie (Amateurs) - Glasgow Uni (Juniors) - Girvan, Hermes*, 1 of Kelty/Bo'ness/Newtongrange/Linlithgow*^, 1 of Auchinleck/Hurlford*", 1 of Auchinleck/Musselburgh*" *qualifiers ^1 fewer qualifier if Linlithgow win league "1 fewer qualifier if Auchinleck win double although I assume in the above that the existing unlicensed HL / LL clubs get licensed by whenever the deadline is (SFA AGM?). Any other clubs who gets licensed - e.g. Civil Service Strollers are mooted - would also enter in R1.
HibeeJibee
By the way - Clyde and East Kilbride entering at the same round . Who'd have thought that, even fairly recently.

HibeeJibee
Scottish Cup -Round 3 in late November, with Round 4 (where prem clubs enter) on 9th January. Interesting. Positive return if correct. Kelty Hearts qualified this evening.
NorthernLights
Scottish Cup -Round 3 in late November, with Round 4 (where prem clubs enter) on 9th January. I'd be happy with that. Getting knocked out in your first Scottish cup tie of the season is always disappointing but as a top flight club to be out before Christmas just seemed to add insult to injury. HibeeJibee
Auchinleck Talbot qualified this afternoon. Runners-up do not qualify when someone does the 'Junior double', and as a result of this Hurlford Athletic (West Juniors runner-up) will not participate next season and Musselburgh Athletic (Talbot's opponent in the Scottish Junior Cup final) have to win to qualify.
