Monkey Tennis
Heart of Midlothian started the ball rolling in saying no to the Newco: http://sport.stv.tv/football/clubs/hearts/107387-in-full-hearts-owner-vladimir-romanov-says-no-to-rangers-newco-in-spl/ God bless you Mr Romanov, wherever you may be. Obviously a typically bonkers statement from the man probably least qualified in Scotland to comment on how clubs and the game should be run. However, the man did something really important three years ago. At that point, it still looked likely that SPL chairmen would tamely vote to allow the newco into the top flight. Hearts' publicly declared stance started a shift though. Jim Spence was soon predicting that the new incarnation would not be admitted and fans of other clubs got more lippy and organised and a head of steam was built up. The less said about the SPL plan to then bully clubs into letting them into the second tier, the better of course, but leaving that aside, Romanov's stance mattered. As I said at the time, people like him had done great damage and were dangerous and had no rightful place in our game. That day however, I loved him like a brother. SteveThePirate
In all fairness, he wasn't scared to stand up to the SFA or the Old Firm, who at that point were getting incredible decisions week in, week out. A hero to all, a god amongst men.
