Andy Murray The Greatest and General Tennis Chat

Get a coach in to learn how to avoid negative tennis at those vital times, 7 slams to go for him b4 it's too late to win his 1st.

He's got over 30 Grand Slams to go before he reaches 30. Plenty time.

Murray won't threaten at Roland Garros where last eight would be a decent achievement

I dunno, Nadal's knees are fucked, and there isn't another clay court specialist in the upper echelons of the game at the moment, so he's as good a chance as any.

This is a bit of a myth. Federer's clay court record is excellent - he's just not as good as Nadal. Remember that if it hadn't been for Nadal he'd have several more French Open titles.

It isn't his favourite surface obviously, but if Nadal wasn't in the draw Federer would be stronger favourite for the French Open than either of the two hard court slams.

For years he was seen as a great champion and sportsman but the way he handed himself when Nadal starting taking him in the big matches showed him in another light, ie a greetin faced wee bairn.

In what sense?

Murray also cried like a bitch after losing today's match. And that was a routine three setter, not a 5 set epic. It's an emotional sport...tongue.gif

i thought to often in the third set murray looked like a defeated man, i never saw the first two as i was in my slumber. Twice in that tie break he had brilliant chances to put away the set. He's needs to have a bit more belief against federer in the slams and i dont think he ll be the complete player until he does. He has so many good shots in his artillery unlike most players that could and should hurt feds, but until he sorts his head out, he ll never in slam, and with the way federer looks right now, he ll be the main man in his way every time for the next couple of years yet.

What the f**k would you know about it like? He's just missed a chance to win a Grand Slam title by basically having his arse handed to him by the best player of all time, I doubt the first thing he wanted to do was make a speech in front of all those folk. It was an emotional moment for him.

As for the actual match, basically everyone with half a brain now knows 1. that Murray isn't aggresive enough when it truly matters but is getting a lot better and 2. that the guy will definitely lift one of these sooner rather than later. He's simply too talented not to. I doubt severely that he enjoyed that today and won't want to face it again.

Federer was majestic today. Some of the angles he makes are outrageous. Murray didn't serve well enough in the first set and I'm not even that sure how much difference it would have mae anyway. I don't think Federer was in any mood to be beaten out there. A real pity actually but Murray did keep battering away at it when he could easily have chucked it.

Federer was just too good.

I wondered this time last season whether Federer would ever come back. Could well be that he wouldn't have had Nadal maintained his form and fitness and handed out another coupole of beatings at the French and Wimbers.

Nadal's struggles could give Federer another 2 years at the top. The rest, Djokovic, Murray and co aren't at the level Nadal was pre-injury. Not even that close to be honest.

What a stupid and pointless thing to say.

Check the records.

He's got over 30 Grand Slams to go before he reaches 30. Plenty time.

As above, how many win their 1st slam over 24 in the men's game, then add into the mix that he's been on the scene since his teens.

Federer had him in his pocket today, I witnessed nowt that suggests he's going anywhere in the next few years, Murray will need to hope someone else takes him out b4 the final, Murray's best game will never be near Fed's level of play in a slam final.

Wasn't today his 19th Grand Slam event? Federer didn't win his first until his 17th.

And besides, Murray is playing in an era where the quality of player is higher than it's ever been. Imagine how successful he'd have been in the years where fucking Greg Rusedski was the Number 4 player in the world.

Rusedski would struggle to get into the top 16 if he was at his peak now.

Two things wrong with this.

1) Andy Murray has eight grand slams to play in before he hits 24.

2) He won't be playing Federer at that level forever. There is every chance he'll be good enough in the future to win a Grand Slam.

Part of being a professional tennis player is doing after match interviews especially in the major tournaments and for him to start blubbing like a big c**t was fucking cringeworthy just as pathetic as Gazza. It's not as if he's not had enough practice at this type of interview he does them at every major tournament final or not......

He had a very good tournament and played some excellent stuff and his ranking will improve no doubt and he MIGHT win a major one day.He should he have just said the best man won and have been done with it,without being seen to be a sniveling big p***k who can't handle the big occasion mentally or emotionally.......

Why because i think that far too many modern day sports(ahem)men are just big pussies.Andy Roddick never wept like a bitch when he lost Wimbledon to Federer and Federer didn't when he lost his epic final to Nadal, arguably the best two best two finals at Wimbledon or ever for that matter.....

Fact is he bottled it today and played shite, shit happens deal with it like a man a sportsman.I hope he is embarassed by his wimpering and he might fucking man up and it might add a much needed a bit of steel to his temprament...

Good grief. Stop posting now.

Straight sets....He was 5-2 up in the 3rd had 5 sets points and blew it.....If that's not bottling it WTF is?

Aye and for the match it was titanic struggle from the outset which will be remembered for rest time as an epic battle that ebbed and flowed as the these two tennis immortals swapped the advantage time again untill Federer evetually crawled his way over the finish line after 6 hours of play......

Right enough, you'd think a player of Murray's class would never lose a set against the best player who's ever lived whilst being ONE break of serve ahead.

Incidentally, Federer also 'blew' four or five match points in the same set. Did he 'bottle' those points too?

I have no idea what this is supposed to insinuate. Everyone who actually watched the match knows that Federer outplayed him, and fully deserved to win. Not sure what point you're making here. Other than making a tit of yourself.
