South Challenge Cup R3

Whitehill Welfare v Ormiston 3.00pm

There will be a 9.30am pitch inspection tomorrow morning. Was up this afternoon and the game is in serious doubt.

And there's a leak in the committee room roof.

Leeks on the roof & the spud field, sounds like the Good Life is still alive & kicking up at my favourite village of the Danned Welfare.

But back in the 21st century rhe beautiful game will be played at Ainslie Park, as per.

The Lowland League Committee examine Whitehill's fixture logjam.

Perhaps not only the League Champions should be excluded from the League Cup but also those clubs who own their own swamps have a large fixture backlog through no fault of their own...

Have to wonder if a 16 club format is going to be viable for the LL given the need to declare a champion by mid-April.

Highland has the same issue- with 18 teams- but they seem perfectly happy to play midweek games that involve a bit of travel. Although they ALL have floodlights.

Unhappiness around loss making mid week fixtures is supposed to be the main reason behind potential breakaway in highland league.

The breakaway would likely result in a 27 game season ( 9 opponents three times) which would only be 3 less than the lowland with 16 teams.

The lowland would have no problem if there wasn't a huge range of local cups ( and the challenge cup taking precedent) filling valuable match days- often without a fixture being played.
