Going by David Douglas on twitter centre half and goalkeeper coming in then that's us

So no more forwards ? So that's us without a double figures striker on the books

He said a CF as well.

A St.Mirren supporting colleague told me (today) that Dunfermline was once rumoured to be Goodwin's destination. I asked the same colleague about Goodwin's contribution last season. He said he thought Goodwin ought to have featured more often and that his performances in derby matches against Morton were outstanding. In those matches Goodwin was either brought on or started in the middle of the park and had the effect of tipping the scales in St.Mirren's favour. That is, to the extent that he battled very effectively.

I haven't revised my opinion (above) of Goodwin as a consequence of my colleague's anecdotes. In fact, I'm confirmed in it. From what I hear, he's a makeshift centre-half who wouldn't do us a great turn there. However, if I was asked: is Jim Goodwin worth a punt in the middle of the park? I might answer yes, depending on how much of our wage budget he would take up. That said, Derby match performances (alone) ought not to inform Ferguson's thinking; everyone brings their A game into those.

Utter pish, the only barrier to him being a good signing for us would be his disciplinary record. Excellent positional sense, covers a lot of ground and tough in the tackle, a real leader and ball winner in the middle of the park (when the aggression in the tackle is controlled). This is based on seeing the guy play semi-regularly over the last 18 months.

Utter pish you went on to agree with in full. Bizarre...

Also, Jim Goodwin would be a good signing, far better than Hugh Murray. Can't see it happening sadly.

I should say: I didn't intend to compare the talents of Hugh Murray and Jim Goodwin. Envisioning that Ferguson fancied Goodwin as a centre-back, I was suggesting that he might disappear into obscurity, not being all that good in the position. Hugh Murray put in a decent, if somewhat conservative shift whenever we asked him. Goodwin might be a great shout for the middle of the park if his fitness survives the regression to part-time football.

CK upon hearing of a Bouadji return rumour... attachicon.gifImageUploadedByPie & Bovril1464895832.952607.jpg

TI remember he was training with us in 2009 but he wasn't offered a deal. Instead we signed about 8 useless strikers and had to resort to playing Mark Casey at centre half as there were no other options. Another John Brown masterstroke  :1eye

If you were trying to advocate the qualities and benefits of signing Jim Goodwin then you've failed miserably. Maybe time you lowered the word count and concentrated on the content.
