I like Brophy as a player tbh. When we're signing players from our league then a guy who has scored for Accies, Killie, St Mirren and Ross County is probably about our level. In that sense I'd prefer him over a random EFL loanee.

The injury thing makes it an absolutely fucking wild risk in our situation. Maybe that's where we are though.

See, I'm not a Brophy fan I've just never really liked him as a player but I can totally see why he'd be on a list of someone we'd consider.

Essentially echoing @Handsome_Devil above...

For the most part the January market is clubs trying to horse trade players they don't actually want so the available pool is pretty much folk who are either frozen out or are on the fringes of their respective squads for various reasons. That's just the nature of a mid-season window.

Ciftci is probably a good example of that type of player.

If it was just the case that Derek Adams is an absolute fucking maniac and doesn't like Brophy's face then it'd be fair enough but quite how we'd manage to square Kettlewell having a moan about how we've had no luck with injuries this season with signing someone whose injury record is the reddest of red flags is quite the conundrum.

Brophy never actually scored in Paisley as a Saints player.

We spent big money on acquiring him. It just never worked out. IIRC he scored 8 goals in 2 and half seasons all away from home.

But then we also had a non-scoring overweight Shankland firing blanks.

Perhaps there is a strikers curse in place in Paisley.

Had Brophy kicked on after leaving Kilmarnock perhaps he would be considered for the Euros under Clarke.

I love the Paisley no goals stat.

You never know why it stopped working but it's clearly been a while now - he's not impressed consistently since moving in Jan 2021 and his trajectory obviously changed at Killie first, otherwise he'd have moved up from there rather than sideways.

If we'd three strikers we liked and could sign Brophy as a summer free, it'd probably be a gamble worth taking. Signing him now suggests we've hit the desperation stage, if we do indeed go for him.

I dunno. Maybe certain players lose a bit of hunger and desire once they get higher wages or a big move. We signed a guy from Northern Ireland this summer for a big fee and no doubt high wages but his form has been somewhat inconsistent.

Shame really but as I say guys like Shankland completely turned their careers around.

Brophy when we signed him was called up by Clarke for Scotland and has now missed the opportunity for this years tournament.

He’s still only 27. Ball is firmly in his court.

His story is a bit like Hammell’s, had a good job within the club, then asked to step up to help out, then told to f**k off

I can see why the Goodwin shambles would put them off from going there again……but it seems like an obvious move for everyone to go for Stephen Robinson.

Been thinking the same. Unless another EPL team are chucking loans about - it would be pretty much impossible to get near the quality of Biereth at the short notice we've had - so I'm assuming standard jobbers and hoping to be surprised.
