AMC13
Amazing for Dundalk guaranteed at least Europa League group stages.
Sloop John B
Unbelievable moment for them, hopefully they can make history and make the CL group stage and get it up all the gloryhunting EPL fans over there.
jamamafegan
They might draw Celtic in the next round provided Celtic go through. Can you imagine that? It' would be an absolute Irish fest for Celtic fans. They'd probably move the game to the Aviva as well.

Regardless it makes you wonder how our lot can't get anywhere near their level of success this season. As much as I hate to say it, no they haven't a sugar daddy. They nearly went bust a few years back, hired Stephen Kenny they had an amazing run in his first season finishing 3rd, a season later they were champions. Last year they done the double domestically. Lost there best player to Brighton but have still managed to kick on this year. They were unlucky last year against Bate, this year it was a well deserved progression. I fear for the league here if Cork don't progress tomorrow that Dundalk could dominate for years with the money they've run into if they spend and invest wisely. Carl Cort's Hamstring
Shamrock Rover's got to the Europa groups, and we're drawn with Spurs but didn't dominate. Champions league money would be a complete game changer though, and it's not completely impossible with them in the champions route.
Gaviliunas
Beer shieva just knocked out olympiacos, rostov looking like knocking anderlecht too. Falcao started scoring goals again, can't stop scoring supposedly hope he gets back to his best.
kerrdavidson95
Watched the tail end of the Ajax game there, they look honking defensively but fairly good going forward. Klaassen popped up with a penalty and an 87th minute winner for them.
Ross.
Excellent result for YB last night, coming back from 2 down to put out Shakhtar. Guarantees them Europa League football, which is probably where they will end up given they are not in the Champions Route and will likely draw a decent team in the play off. FairWeatherFan
Not sure if it's being discussed elsewhere, but last night I saw a proposal to change qualifying. Supposedly the Top 4 leagues will get 4 teams in the group stages automatically. With the 4th team being decided on "historical merit". If nothing else were to change that would see these numbers in the group stage automatically: Leagues 1-4 = 16 Leagues 5-6 = 4 (20) Leagues 7-12 = 6 (26) With the Champions League & Europa League winners to be considered. The actual qualifying rounds would therefore be cut from 10 to 6 potentially.
HibeeJibee
It seems to be along those lines. It is basically a total capitulation to the English, Germans, Italians and Spanish... they all receive 4 groupstage slots, with the last being decided upon 'European pedigree' which is outrageous. Whereas they currently receive 3 groupstage slots (or 2 in the Italian case) and 1 qualifier slot. Some reports have suggested the coefficient table will be scrapped, cementing the positions permanently, although that would surprise me. No-one receives 3 groupstage slots. Portugal and France receive 2 groupstage slots, same as currently but actually taking away 1 qualifier slot from each. Next 6 places - currently Russia, Ukraine, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and Turkey - receive 1 groupstage slot again the same as just now but again taking away 1 qualifier slot from each. That would only leave 6 groupstage slots to potentially cover CL holders, EL winners, runners-up from Portugal down and champions from Greece down through some combination of groupstage slots and/or qualifier rounds. If they're going to go down this road then 'pedigree' places should be off the table and they should increase CL groupstage to 48 clubs with group runners-up going into R2 and group winners into R3. Dates already exist as EL has 2 rounds before QFs. That is the only way to appease the biggest countries without shafting everyone else. They would have to reduce EL from 48 clubs to 40 clubs (i.e. so 20 joined 12 CL groupstage third-places in EL R2), but overall that would see 88 clubs in groupstages instead of current 80. lionel hutz
It's basically because the English have the biggest TV Pool and are on the verge of losing their 4 UCL spots, this effectively prevents this from happening as the Portuguese, French and Ukrainian leagues have no chance of catching the any of the countries in the European quadopoly. @HibeeJibeeIs this confirmed as happening or is it just a proposal? topcat(The most tip top)
The Champions league has to perform a balancing act between being a genuinely continent wide event and being the pinnacle of the game in terms of the standard of competition It can't do both perfectly
HibeeJibee
It wouldn't do either by giving 16 of 32 slots to 4 leagues (50%), allowing 4 clubs to qualify on the basis of 'historical pedigree' not placing, and giving 6 or fewer slots to 40+ leagues... FairWeatherFan
You can understand this originating from the Italians. Spain, England, Germany and Italy are all significantly ahead of the other leagues in terms of coefficient. However Italy is the runt that gets 3x teams while the other three get 4x. I think any rejig will see parity between the Top 4. None of them want to be in 4th. If these changes were to be implemented they won't last long as the clubs are greedy and will want more. England as an example has Man U, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs who all want to be CL teams. Which two do you see sitting out without a grumble.
