Yes. ETA: All this can be blamed squarely at the door of the Leave campaign. By promising the electorate the world, no matter how incompatible it was with reality, we are now in the situation that nothing that is practical aligns what people voted for (allegedly). If we are going to crash out anyway, I'd happily put Gove, Johnson and Davis in charge from now on. At least they'd be responsible for the shitshow they have created then. At that point the individual states as opposed to the EU get to do some negotiating and Spain will no doubt not let an opportunity like that pass.

Don't forget Rees Mogg, but yes you"re right. Politicians got us into this awful fucking mess, and because of careers, party loyalties, etc, are completely incapable of getting us out of it. Why on earth they think that the EU should be offering all kinds of favourable t's and c's because we've opted to leave just beggars belief. Who thr f**k do they think they are?

The ultracunt May also deserves everything it gets for establishing a number of impossible red lines for no other reason than its desire to cling to power. I hope it’s fucking miserable and hating every moment of its premiership. EDIT: when we’re all splattered in the shit from the whirring fan, let’s not also forget to thank the 52% of England and Wales’ voting populations. They are the ones who enabled and will continue to enable the scumbag Leave campaign. Blaming the politicians is letting the c***s who kiss their feet off the hook. Bandstand
It's absolutely brilliant that sections of the media are claiming this as a victory for May She was treated with utter contempt in Salzburg ,openly mocked by being talked into a photo op involving cake and left a quivering wreck that seemed to be on the verge of leaking some motor oil

If she hadn't called the unnecessary vanity general election she could have easily steered things through to an eventual reasonable Norway type of soft Brexit deal after reality had started to sink in a bit about what a hard Brexit actually means. It took a perfect storm of circumstances such as a greatly strengthened Corbyn and a balance of power holding DUP to drive things to where they are now where a Tory party that is terrified of losing power can be held hostage by a minority of Rees Mogg type Leave nutters making it impossible for the Remain majority in the House of Commons to assert itself effectively.

LongTimeLurker
A soft Brexit would still have been a Brexit.

Jacksgranda
First mistake - calling a referendum in the first place Second mistake - not stating that it would have to be a 55% - 45% (or higher) margin for a Leave vote to win Third mistake - assuming Remain would win and having no inkling what a Leave win would entail (re effects of leaving EU) Fourth mistake - Remain running a totally lack lustre/disinterested campaign Fifth mistake - triggering article 50 immediately Sixth mistake - calling a general election Edited September 22, 2018 by Jacksgranda

Also a huge mistake by Theresa May and done against the advise of senior civil servants by all accounts, who understood full well that the fixed two year deadline needed to avoid a no deal exit gave all the leverage to the EU.
