“I’m sorry to say it so callously: there is something more important for us than the future of the UK, and that’s the future of the EU,” he said. “Any decision that would give European citizens the feeling you can exit the EU and keep all the advantages would be suicidal, and we won’t make that decision.”

I don't think you could expect the EU members to have any other reaction to Brexit.

Any softening of the stance plays in to the hands of leavers in other countries.

Kate Hoey's is part of a group called Labour Leave who have manifesto goals of-
Return all law-making powers to the UK Parliament, renewing our democracy.

Ensure complete control over immigration policy and visas.

Secure free trade in goods and services with Europe.

Pursue global trade deals which protect our public services.

Rebalance our economy, helping firms to achieve higher productivity, with rising wages and investing in the infrastructure to support export-led growth.

Probably even more cherry picking than Checkers. It's safe to say Labour will do no better in the negotiations than May.

I don't think Joey would be involved in talks even if there was a snap election and Labour somehow won.

Not sure a general election makes a lot of sense. It's like changing jockeys when the horse is dead.

The Tories would still back it, as long as it was a good British horse. The European ones would withdraw in fear.

There's a few draughts blowing through those proposals...

What the hell has Hoey got to do with a possible future Labour government?

...but but German car manufacturers and Angela Merkel.  What should be worrying about that quote is that there's a willingness now to openly put the boot in over making a hard Brexit as difficult as possible to make sure nobody ever tries to do this again and it isn't just something being said behind closed doors.

They never said it behind closed doors, they simply said it more subtly; but it was always out in the open.

I’m not sure what’s more disturbing:  1. the politicians who have always understood this but chose to lie about it because it didn’t suit their agendas; 2. The politicians who understood it but were stupid or naive enough to think they could change the EU position; or 3. the politicians who simply didn’t understand it in the first place.
