The European football level St. Mirren FC 2024/25 thread

Recommended Posts

The trajectory of the club the past few seasons has been good to see. I was going to say the other day that i am hoping we start to capitalise on robbo and teams diamonds in the rough into getting transfer money in. Admitedly... didnt expect it to be Bolton!

I was having a nosey at some of the clubs around us accounts and some of them dont make for pretty reading. The interesting stat i noticed was some clubs wage bills. We are on circa 4m and killie are on roughly the same. So in theory not surprising we finished near enough each other. Dundee on around 3m. Again not overly surprising coming below us. However... Hibs are on 10m, Aberdeen 12m, Motherwell 5m, St Johnstone 4.7m. Mind boggling hibs and aberdeen have two to three times the budget and finished where they did!!!

McMenamin needs surgery on a tendon injury. Guess that means he'll be missing for a while.

Could do with another attacking option!

Anything from between 6 months to a year depending on severity.

And yeah, that will surely see us bringing in another body for there.

Fleetwood must be offering Bolton a juicy deal if he would turn his back on having a bash at Europe on his CV to play in the English seaside league.

Anyway, a six-figure sum for Bolton = bite their hand off immediately.

2 ties v 2x bis wage for x amount of time? No brainer.

He's also recently bought a house in England again. It was never a secret he was up here to try and get back to level he was capable of and think that the biggest chock was that he actually signed on for another year just 3 months ago. Which has obviously benefited us.

Not seeing Bolton in any of the pics from Spain today.

Losing Conor should allow James Scott time to show what he can do.

We clearly are bringing in revenue at last. I expect Robbo has been sitting on some of his budget for others who may become available.

We’ve brought in plenty money over the last few years, our turnover has been as high as it has ever been.

Not being smug but even with Conor and James B out we have a decent squad who have mostly played and trained together for at least a season.

Looking at rivals, most are no where near ready for the league starting (exceptions being Hearts, Killie and Motherwell - K need a keeper though and Well might need time for new players to gel)

We can but hope that we start like last season and maintain a good points haul each month.

CB and super striker inbound too we hope.

Thoughts on how likely the striker will be? Given Bolton offski and McMenamin out for a significant period of time. Id imagine the cash available will be funnelled to these positions. So can only see us getting a striker if we move one of the higher earning strikers off the books.

Any forward we bring in will be a wide player IMO.

Think Roland Idowu fills in for Conor McMenamin.  Still hoping we can bring in a dominant centre half and attacker with pace .

He won’t - he’s a midfielder.

We’ll be looking for a winger to replace McMenamin. Expect us to loan someone in short term til January.
