1320Lichtie Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Coming off 2 games where we've pretty much dominated this will be a harder test I think. Fancy us though. I'd get Swankie into the team and put Denholm out wide. Our games with East Fife usually have a bit of bite about them so look forward to it. Usually get a decent travelling support to methil and up from methil for these games. Hopefully adds to it. Mon the Broath.
Big Fifer Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 No idea how this became a wee bit of a derby but it seems to have over the years. I'd imagine it'll be a very tight affair although I think I'll say that about every single game this season.

Probably just because we've been in the same division fairly regularly in the last 10-15 years while our main local rivals have not.
east fife for life Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Chuffed Arbroath are back in league 1 beside us! A brilliant away day and I enjoy the banter with the Arbroath fans! It's usually a close game between us and I don't see this being any different. Mon the Fife
lichtie23 Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Hopefully get through Tuesday unscathed before concentrating on this

Yep. I remember my dad saying East Fife and Arbroath always seemed to end up fighting it out in the same parts of the leagues going back a few decades. Similar sized clubs in a lot of ways so we seem to end up 'together' more than most other teams over the years.
farflung lichtie Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Geographic proximity is another obvious factor. Since at least a couple of the other Angus sides are often in different leagues (as with the Dundee teams), so the 40 mile distance is barely an hour's drive and fairly manageable. Mind you Levenmouth badly needs a rail connection to facilitate the travel. Not dissimilar size of towns - around 31,000 in the core Methil/Leven/Buckhaven conurbation compared with 25,000 for Arbroath. Both east coast with economies that have seen better days, he said charitably. Fife have a much more impressive history thanks to the mining wealth around the middle of the century. And usually a half decent following for both, well for this level, so a bit of atmosphere. Bring it on.

Think the rivalry was ratcheted up when Baikie was EF boss, got a bit tasty in the tunnel at Gayfield I seem to recall
Cosmic Joe Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 It all kicked off when Jimmy Kinsella burned down Jimmy Jack's newsagents. Allegedly...

lichtie23 Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Flyer McMullen also created some aggro I seem to remember.
Gordon EF Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Paul Tosh tried to ease tensions by slotting the ball into his own net at Gayfield a few years ago. Good lad.
lichtie23 Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Not entirely sure how the suspension system works with a red card in the first cup but we could be missing Ricky Little who was sent off tonight
lichtiekev Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 If so does Yule drop back in or Hammy move in and Gold to Leftback? Just in from work and seen highlights, looks as if we improved hugely in 2nd half, Sending off looked harsh,
relichtie Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Not entirely sure how the suspension system works with a red card in the first cup but we could be missing Ricky Little who was sent off tonight We can appeal against it if was a bad decision surely?
LiamA Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 From what I understand if the red card was not for violent conduct then the suspension will only count for the competition it was received it, in other words he will miss the first round of next season's challenge cup! Just my interpretation
